In the real applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), a great number of sensors are distributed in the region of interest in order to monitor the environment. The area covered and the energy consumed by the sensors are two key problems of the WSNs. There are several efforts which tried to find the coverage percentage of the network, and eliminate the redundant sensors; however, none of them have considered the presence of obstacles in the region of interest. In this paper, we propose a new efficient algorithm to compute the area covered by the sensors in a region containing transparent and opaque obstacles, and study the problem of detecting and eliminating redundant sensors in order to improve energy efficiency, while preserving the network's coverage. The proposed algorithm uses computational geometry techniques and is applicable for both homogeneous and heterogeneous WSNs. Also, the obstacles can have arbitrary polygonal shapes which are placed in arbitrary locations.

To meet the complex and variable characteristics of spacecraft testing business, and to increase the expandability of automated testing system, this paper proposed an architecture of spacecraft test executing system which is composed of test executing engine, business component library and registration center based on workflow. And discussed the key issues involved by the three parts of the architecture. Finally, this paper showed a typical application scenario under the architecture. © 2011 IEEE.

Compared with single-label classification, multi-label classification is more general in practice, since it allows one instance to have more than one label simultaneously. Bayes' Theorem has been successfully applied to deal with single-label classification. In this paper, we proposed to tackle multi-label classification using Bayes' Theorem. We propose two approaches, coined as Pair-Dependency Multi-Label Bayesian Classifier (PDMLBC) and Complete-Dependency Multi-Label Bayesian Classifier (CDMLBC). PDMLBC takes advantage of label dependency between any two labels, while CDMLBC considers the dependency among a set of labels. In the experiments, we evaluate the performance of PDMLBC and CDMLBC on real medical data, the results show that both PDMLBC and CDMLBC methods outperform NB+BR on all metrics, and CDMLBC works best among the three methods. © 2011 IEEE.

Virtual machines are allocated on demand in virtualized cloud platforms to provide flexible and reliable services. The major difficulty lies in satisfying the conflicting objectives of reducing response time while lowering resource costs. In this paper, a mathematical multi-tier framework for virtual machine allocation is proposed, which can be used to capture the performance of the cloud platform. We first use simulations to derive virtual resource allocation policies, and later use real benchmarking applications to verify the effectiveness of this framework. Experimental results show that the model can be simply and effectively used to satisfy the response time requirement as well as lowering the cost of using the virtual machine resources. © 2011 IEEE.

Page Rank has been widely used in ranking retrieval results on the web, finding the top influential papers in citation networks or detecting valuable users in online social networks. However, in practice, it is usually hard to obtain a complete structure of any above networks to rank nodes. Thus, some researchers have begun to explore how to get estimated ranks efficiently without acquiring the whole network. They have proposed some approximating methods, however, it is difficult to determine which method is the best one or which is suitable to a certain application. In this case, we set experiments in small-world and scale-free generated networks to certify the feasibility and characteristics of four approximating methods. We also use eleven real networks to mention different optimal conditions for these methods. We find the DIG Rank method performs better than other local estimation methods in almost every given sub graph. Besides, Mean field approach method tends to perform well in networks that have low average shortest path length, small amount of nodes with the same low in degree, or weak community structure. Finally, we apply the most versatile method DIG Rank to Sina micro-blog website to precisely classify users in a group as elites, grassroots or mummy users.

The BOA framework in which BOM is the basis has attracted much attention in developing ERP system of SMEs for solving the problem of information combination. In this paper, in order to provide VSP in BOA framework with large grain reusable module, to improve developing efficiency and reduce development and maintenance costs of ERP systems, a BOM based reconfigurable developing method is presented. According to the idea of BOA and convergent evolution, a design principle to develop BOM by using the approach of meet-in-the-middle formatting is proposed. A rapid VSP developing process by managing BOM and configuring BOM instances has also put forward. At the end of the paper, the feasibility of the reusable development method is illustrated with an application example.

For real-time applications that consist of massive number of rules, partitioning of the rules to support parallel processing is important. This paper proposes a suite of algorithms called GAPCM for parallel processing of massive number of rules. By considering even distribution, minimal waiting time and minimal inter-processor communication, we propose three algorithms for subnet allocation, and apply these algorithms to association rule mining.

Recently, sparse representation has been applied to visual tracking to find the target with the minimum reconstruction error from the target template subspace. Though effective, these L1 trackers require high computational costs due to numerous calculations for ℓ 1 minimization. In addition, the inherent occlusion insensitivity of the ℓ 1 minimization has not been fully utilized. In this paper, we propose an efficient L1 tracker with minimum error bound and occlusion detection which we call Bounded Particle Resampling (BPR)-L1 tracker. First, the minimum error bound is quickly calculated from a linear least squares equation, and serves as a guide for particle resampling in a particle filter framework. Without loss of precision during resampling, most insignificant samples are removed before solving the computationally expensive ℓ 1 minimization function. The BPR technique enables us to speed up the L1 tracker without sacrificing accuracy. Second, we perform occlusion detection by investigating the trivial coefficients in the ℓ 1 minimization. These coefficients, by design, contain rich information about image corruptions including occlusion. Detected occlusions enhance the template updates to effectively reduce the drifting problem. The proposed method shows good performance as compared with several state-of-the-art trackers on challenging benchmark sequences.
