Recently, sparse representation has been applied to visual tracking to find the target with the minimum reconstruction error from the target template subspace. Though effective, these L1 trackers require high computational costs due to numerous calculations for ℓ 1 minimization. In addition, the inherent occlusion insensitivity of the ℓ 1 minimization has not been fully utilized. In this paper, we propose an efficient L1 tracker with minimum error bound and occlusion detection which we call Bounded Particle Resampling (BPR)-L1 tracker. First, the minimum error bound is quickly calculated from a linear least squares equation, and serves as a guide for particle resampling in a particle filter framework. Without loss of precision during resampling, most insignificant samples are removed before solving the computationally expensive ℓ 1 minimization function. The BPR technique enables us to speed up the L1 tracker without sacrificing accuracy. Second, we perform occlusion detection by investigating the trivial coefficients in the ℓ 1 minimization. These coefficients, by design, contain rich information about image corruptions including occlusion. Detected occlusions enhance the template updates to effectively reduce the drifting problem. The proposed method shows good performance as compared with several state-of-the-art trackers on challenging benchmark sequences.

To establish the software architecture based on the source code and analyze the impact of its change, we provide an architectural reflexion model that is a simplified version of the reflexion model and an interactive change impact analysis tool. The architectural reflexion model is performed in order to reconstruct the software architecture of a software system based on the static analysis information extracted from its source code. When the architecture of the software system is refined and established, its internal elements affected by the changes can be visualized by the interactive impact analysis tool we implement. The main objective of our approach is to support maintenance of rapidly changing and evolving software systems, usually developed in high-technology companies by means of providing an agile and practical way to reconstruct the software architecture of a large-scale software system and let the user take a snapshot of its internal dependencies on a basis of changes. A case study using an open source project of the large-scale embedded software platform for mobile phone products illustrates how our approach applied and presents its usefulness and effectiveness.

Architectural Design Decisions (ADD) form a key element of Architectural Knowledge (AK), which plays a vital role in the software architecture process. To help manage ADDs, several tools have been proposed. However, most of them have prescribed fixed data models to be followed and do not provide sufficient customizability. Mismatches between a tool's data model and users' specific needs make the tool less usable, or even unusable. We propose a highly customizable solution that enables users to define specialized ADD models according to the specific needs of their individual preferences and working situations to achieve perfect fitness between the required model by users and the provided model by the tool. The results of the initial evaluation of the proposed solution are encouraging.

One fundamental issue in the sensor networks is the coverage problem, which we would like to determine whether a region of interest is sufficiently covered by a given set of sensors. It can be considered as a measure of the quality of service (QoS) in the sensor networks. There are several efforts that design efficient algorithms to compute coverage; however, they have not considered the presence of obstacles in the corresponding region. In this paper, we present a new algorithm to compute the area covered by a set of sensors distributed in a region containing transparent obstacles with arbitrary shapes. The sensor network can be homogeneous or heterogeneous.

Theoretical mean-variance relationship of IP network traffic based on ON/OFF model

Mean-variance relationship （MVR）, nowadays agreed in power law form, is an important function. It is currently used by traffic matrix estimation as a basic statistical assumption. Because all the existing papers obtain MVR only through empirical ways, they cannot provide theoretical support to power law MVR or the definition of its power exponent. Furthermore, because of the lack of theoretical model, all traffic matrix estimation methods based on MVR have not been theoretically supported yet. By observing both our laboratory and campus network for more than one year, we find that such an empirical MVR is not sufficient to describe actual network traffic. In this paper, we derive a theoretical MVR from ON/OFF model. Then we prove that current empirical power law MVR is generally reasonable by the fact that it is an approximate form of theoretical MVR under specific precondition, which can theoretically support those traffic matrix estimation algorithms of using MVR. Through verifying our MVR by actual observation and public DECPKT traces, we verify that our theoretical MVR is valid and more capable of describing actual network traffic than power law MVR.

Achievements of network traffic simulation provide realistic, feasible and accurate methods of measuring bandwidth, latency, jitter and so on. However as the development of networking technology, traditional manners are becoming insufficient to provide high bandwidth matching the real network, nor accurate statistics characteristic such as self-similarity. In this paper we propose the Network Traffic Simulation platform based on Network Processor (NTS-NP). The platform has achieved: 1) high bandwidth and real-time traffic generation;2) high precision of self-similarity of the flow, which is now considered to be one of the basic characteristics of network traffic. In our platform, Cavium OCTEON CN3860 is chosen as the core in order to gain the ability of high speed packets assembling and transmitting, and direct control of the interface hardware. ON/OFF aggregation model is implemented to generate self-similarity and a discrete-event driven based algorithm is proposed to improve the traditional implementation of the model. We estimate the Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic by R/S statistics method and wavelet estimator. The validation of the platform is also empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

Network traffic generation has always been a hot spot in network measurement and simulation research. However, traditional methods of generating network traffic are either insufficient in fulfilling bandwidth requirement or matching the characteristics of a real network. In this paper we propose a platform of generating high bandwidth real-time network traffic with self-similarity characteristic. The high bandwidth real-time generating feature guarantees the feasibility and self-similarity characteristic makes the platform more reliable. In the platform, we choose Cavium OCTEON CN3860 as the core and implemented ON/OFF aggregation model in a discrete-event way. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated both by R/S statistics method and wavelet estimator. Although there are differences between two estimators in various kinds of conditions, the validation of the platform is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

ON/OFF aggregation model is one of the efficient and accurate models for self-similar network traffic generation. In this paper we propose and compare three algorithms of implementing ON/OFF aggregation model, based on Cavium OCTEON CN3860 network processor, aimed to achieve high-bandwidth and real-time network traffic generation. The model is implemented in a multi-thread approach, in a token-bucket approach and in a discrete-event approach. The Hurst parameter of synthetic traffic is estimated by wavelet estimator, and the validation of the last algorithm is empirically discussed and proved. ©2009 IEEE.

This paper proposes a vertical handover mechanism for mobile devices to keep connection with the Internet in wired and wireless coexistence networks. To support vertical handover between two heterogeneous access networks, the intermediate driver including a virtual mini-port driver and a virtual protocol driver is developed newly. Then, an actual IP address is assigned to the virtual mini-port driver. In addition, the intermediate driver includes the media independent handover (MIH) function of IEEE 802.21 standards group for efficient converging of two heterogeneous adapters. When communication via the running adapter gets disconnected while in service, the disconnection of the running adapter is automatically detected by the MIH function and then handover occurs by mapping information on the other adapter to the virtual adapter. Using the proposed handover mechanism, the session can be continued seamlessly even when handover between heterogeneous network adapters occurs at lower level in Internet applications. To evaluate the proposed handover mechanism, actual experiments are performed for wired and wireless coexistence networks using various Internet applications, and then their results are discussed.
