In this study, Chlorophyll Fluorescence (ChlF) was used to assess and detect the onset of crop injury from glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide. Thirty-six pots of non-glyphosate-resistant soybean (cultivar FM955LL) were randomly divided into three groups and treated with different doses of glyphosate solutions. The three treatment groups were CTRL group (with no glyphosate treatment), 0.25X group (treated with 0.217 kg·ae/ha solution of glyphosate), and 0.5X group (treated with 0.433 kg·ae/ha solution of glyphosate). The Kautsky effect parameters were acquired in the experiment by using a chlorophyll fluorimeter. Reflectance-based indices, which were potentially related to ChlF, were also calculated from leaf reflectance spectra acquired using an integrating sphere apparatus coupled with a spectroradiometer. These data were processed and analyzed to study their response to the glyphosate treatments. Results indicate that four Kautsky effect parameters, Fv, Fv/Fm, Area, and PI, are parameters sensitive to glyphosate treatment, showing significant differences among the three groups at and beyond 48 Hours After Treatment (HAT). Moreover, ChlF-related spectral indices, R 675 ·R 690 /R 683 2 and R 690 /R 655 , are shown to be useful in detection of the glyphosate injury, though they are shown less effective compared with the Kautsky effect parameters. Results presented in this paper demonstrate that ChlF is effective in detecting the onset of glyphosate-induced leaf injury, and has the potential to be further developed into practical use.

Adaptive array antenna technology is useful for detecting the Direction of Arrival (DOA) of signal and delay for mobile communications, where the antenna beam will automatically directed to the signal source. One method to estimate DOA and delay effectively is by using MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm. When the signal arrive at the antenna, the MUSIC algorithm will arrange the signal into its matrix covariance, and then perform an eigen decomposition process to produce the signal and noise subspace, and then obtain the power spectrum and delay spectrum. This paper combined the Taguchi method and MUSIC algorithm, used them as the prediction tool in designing parameters for the communication system and then constructed a set of the optimal parameter analysis flow and steps. Several adaptive beamforming criteria were discussed and a general form for the optimum array weight vector was derived that would require large amounts of computational load. Hence, it is necessary to find technique that can find optimum solution in real time. This paper will discuss the application of MUSIC algorithm for linear and circular array antenna in order to estimate the DOA and delay of various angles of elevation and azimuth. © 2013 Kavala Institute of Technology.

Gene expression data have been analyzing by many researchers by using a range of computational intelligence methods. From the gene expression data, selecting a small subset of informative genes can do cancer classification. Nevertheless, many of the computational methods face difficulties in selecting small subset since the small number of samples needs to be compared to the huge number of genes (high-dimension), irrelevant genes and noisy genes. Hence, to choose the small subset of informative genes that is significant for the cancer classification, an enhanced binary particle swarm optimization is proposed. Here, the constraint of the elements of particle velocity vectors is introduced and a rule for updating particle's position is proposed. Experiments were performed on five different gene expression data. As a result, in terms of classification accuracy and the number of selected genes, the performance of the introduced method is superior compared to the conventional version of binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO). The other significant finding is lower running times compared to BPSO for this proposed method. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

Inferring a time-delayed gene regulatory network from microarray gene-expression is challenging due to the small numbers of time samples and requirements to estimate a large number of parameters. In this paper, we present a two-step approach to tackle this challenge: first, an unbiased cross-correlation is used to determine the probable list of time-delays and then, a penalized regression technique such as the LASSO is used to infer the time-delayed network. This approach is tested on several synthetic and one real dataset. The results indicate the efficacy of the approach with promising future directions. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

While visualizing three dimensional (3D) structure of the coronary arteries, the projectory X-ray images can produce 3D tree of them up to a certain accuracy level with a lower dose of radiation when compared to computer tomography (CT). Here, in this study a novel and complete automatic system is designed which covers preprocessing, segmentation, matching and reconstruction steps for that purpose. First an automatic and novel pattern recognition technique is applied for the extraction of the bifurcation points with their diameters recorded in a map. Then, a novel optimization algorithm is run for matching the branches based on that map and the epipolar geometry of stereopsis. Finally, cut branches are fixed one by one at the bifurcations for completing the 3D reconstruction. The method favors the similar ones in the literature with this novelty since it inherently prevents the wrong overlapping of branches. Other essential problems like correct detection of bifurcation, detection of the true calibration parameters and fast overlapping of matched branches are addressed at acceptable levels. The precision of bifurcation extraction is high at 97% with 96% sensitivity. Accuracy of the vessel centerlines has root-mean-square (rms) error smaller than 0.5 mm for 10 different patients. For phantom model, rms error is 0.75 ± 0.8 mm in 3D localization.
