Surface electromyography (sEMG) recordings can be contaminated by electrocardiogram (ECG) signals when the monitored muscle is closed to the heart. Traditional signal processing-based approaches, such as high-pass filtering and template subtraction, have been used to remove ECG interference but are often limited in their effectiveness. Recently, neural network-based methods have shown greater promise for sEMG denoising, but they still struggle to balance both efficiency and effectiveness. In this study, we introduce MSEMG, a novel system that integrates the Mamba state space model with a convolutional neural network to serve as a lightweight sEMG denoising model. We evaluated MSEMG using sEMG data from the Non-Invasive Adaptive Prosthetics database and ECG signals from the MIT-BIH Normal Sinus Rhythm Database. The results show that MSEMG outperforms existing methods, generating higher-quality sEMG signals using fewer parameters. © 2025 IEEE.

The progression of mobile technologies from first generation (1G) to fifth generation (5G) networks has brought about noteworthy advancement. The present network environment is characterized by the coexistence of various mobile networks and technologies, leading to overlapping or non-overlapping coverage areas, creating a next-generation heterogeneous landscape. Handoffs within the same network (i.e., GSM to GSM or vice versa) are known as horizontal or homogeneous handoffs. Conversely, when handoffs entail a transition to a different network type, such as moving from GSM to CDMA or vice versa, they are categorized as vertical or heterogeneous handoffs. Multiple link triggers, such as link down (LD), link going down (LGD), link detected, and link up, are employed to initiate and execute vertical handoff (VHO) when needed. We have determined the thresholds for vehicular speed and link triggers through extensive simulations, explicitly focusing on high-demand traffic types like video. This paper proposed an enhanced VHO approach based on IEEE 802.21, commonly called media independent handover (MIH), to improve Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, specifically mitigating packet loss (PL), and handoff delay and enhancing the user experience. © 2025 by the authors of this article.

An efficient novel approach is introduced to predict the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment in lung cancer by monitoring the serum N-glycome of patients combined with artificial intelligence-based data analysis. The study involved thirty-three lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Serum samples were taken before and after the treatment. The N-linked oligosaccharides were enzymatically released, fluorophore-labeled, and analyzed by capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection. The resulting electropherograms were thoroughly processed and evaluated by artificial intelligence-based classifiers, i.e., utilizing a machine learning algorithm to categorize the data into two (binary) classes. The classifier analysis method revealed a strong association between the structural changes in the N-glycans and the outcomes of the chemotherapy treatments (ROC >0.9). This novel combination of bioanalytical and AI methods provided a precise and rapid tool for predicting the effectiveness of chemotherapy. © 2025 The Authors

Collaboration is considered as an essential element for effective learning since it enables learners to better develop their points of view and refine their knowledge. Our aim being to facilitate communities of practice members as learners, we argue that collaboration tools should provide personalization features and functionalities in order to fit the specific individual and community learning requirements. More specifically, we propose a framework of services supporting personalization that being embedded in collaboration tools, can act as catalysts for individual and community learning. The proposed set of services has derived after the careful consideration of a generic learner profile, developed to formalize human actors in settings where learning takes place. The term intranet refers to a private computer network that uses Internet protocols, network connectivity, and possibly the public telecommunication system to securely share information or operations among users. Sometimes the term refers only to the most visible service, the internal website. Additionally, the term computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) addresses "how collaborative activities and their coordination can be supported by means of computer systems." (WIKIPEDIA, 2007). CSCW can be supported from internal website type intranets. Spread collaborating groups are using closed www environments with several collaboration supporting functionalities (file sharing, communication, forum, tasks etc) in order to coordinate their work. This form of online collaboration is highly important for projects involving several types of actors from various regions and countries (interregional collaboration projects). These projects are highly important especially for the case of European Union (EU) where the collaborative spirit between structures coming from different countries has to be supported to assure cohesion (a very important and basic goal for the EC integration). In almost all cases of such projects, light versions of CSCW environments are used in order to support and enhance effective collaboration. With the presented work we examine the case of seven specific interregional European projects and the use of Intranet CSCW environments by their consortia. We present an evaluation of the Intranets usage based on several factors and metrics: functionalities provided, projects and partners' type, members of the system, files sharing, messages exchange, coordinator usage statistics etc. Scope of this work is to provide results, conclusions and suggestions on how CSCW Intranet environments have to be organized for effective application on Interregional collaboration projects, and to introduce an easily custornizable and augmentable model for inspection.

Distributed virtual reality: building a multi-user layer for the EVE Platform

dIn this paper, we present the design and implementation of a VRML97 multi-user layer, which is introduced in the EVE distributed virtual reality platform. Though other approaches use a VRML node insertion mechanism, Such as VSPLUS, or a substitution mechanism, Such as SPIN-3D, our approach uses a removal mechanism. Main consideration of our multi-user extension is the ease of transforming single-user virtual worlds into multi-user virtual worlds, as well as the conformity with any standard VRML97 browser. Furthermore, we present the EVE' s communication platform, which can be used in order to support Collaborative Virtual Environments. Main issues regarding the effective network communication as well as the initialization of the 3D scene are discussed in this paper. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) was introduced in Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 6 in order to more efficiently use network and radio resources for the transmission of multimedia services both in the core network and, most importantly, in the air interface of UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network). From the radio perspective, MBMS includes point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multipoint (PtM) modes. The latter aims to overcome network congestion when a large number of users request the same content. One of the most important aspects in MBMS is power control. The fact that Node B's transmission power is a limited resource and must be shared among all MBMS users in a cell indicates the need for power control during an MBMS service. Techniques, such us rate splitting and mixed usage of transport channels can be used to reduce the power requirement of delivering multicast traffic for MBMS users. To this direction, this paper presents simulation results that will reinforce the need for the usage of such techniques and will reveal the amount of power that is saved.

Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) was introduced in Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Release 6 in order to address the need for the efficient usage of the expensive radio resources. The goal of this effort is to support downlink streaming and download-and-play type services to large groups of users. From the radio perspective, MBMS includes point-to-point (PtP) and point-to-multipoint (PtM) modes. The fact that Node B's transmission power is a limited resource and Must be shared among all MBMS users in a cell indicates the need for power control during all MBMS service. Consequently, the analysis of the transmitted power plays a fundamental role in the planning and optimization process of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) radio access networks. In this paper we investigate the factors that affect the Node B's transmission power levels during an MBMS session, Such as, cell deployment, propagation models, users' distributions and mobility issues. To this direction, the transport channels in the downlink, Currently existing in UMTS which could be used to transmit the multicast data over the UMTS Terrestrial Radio-Access Network (UTRAN) interfaces are examined.

This paper proposes a novel mechanism for efficient power control during multicast transmissions in Beyond 3(rd) Generation (B3G) mobile networks. The mechanism utilizes optimally the available power resources of Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) base stations, resulting to network capacity maximization. The proposed rnechanism is based on the concept of transport channels combination (point-to-point and/or point-to-multipoint radio bearers) in any cell/sector of the network in which Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) users are residing. In particular, the transport channel combination that minimizes the transmission power of the base station is selected for the transmission of the MBMS traffic to the corresponding cell. The mechanism is evaluated through several realistic scenarios and the results indicate the ability of the mechanism to utilize optimally the radio resources of the network. Furthermore, our approach is compared with several power control mechanisms existing in the bibliography, including the 3(rd) Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) approaches (presented in 3GPP TS 25.346 and 3GPP TR 25.922), in order to highlight the enhancements that it provides.
