In general, lane change violations are likely to happen before the stop line in the red-light violation detection region. The system which can be detecting red-light and lane-change violation is very useful for the traffic management. This paper present a novel method for the red-light violation detection using vehicles moving in the region of interest and combining with the evaluation of the trajectories behavior of multiple vehicles using mean square displacement (MSD) to detected both of violation. We are using image processing technique only to detected traffic signal without help of another other system. The experiment result shows that the algorithm is high accuracy to detect both of violation.

In this paper, we present an efficient backlit region detection and enhancement method with low-computational cost for consumer mobile imaging devices. The proposed approach partitions an input image into multiple rectangular blocks, and uses a fuzzy logic-based optimal threshold to classify each block as backlit, background, or ambiguous. Backlit blocks are then processed using a contrast enhancement algorithm, whereas those block that are classified as ambiguous are further partitioned into four subblocks, and each subblock goes through further classification. The major advantage of the proposed method is computational efficiency and improved quality with minimized blocking artifacts compared with other block-based approaches.

Loudspeakers in portable consumer electronic devices are frequently small in size. Due to the low sensitivity of their drive units, they are pushed to their power handling and mechanical limits by powerful amplifiers in an attempt to reach high volumes. To protect against excessive diaphragm excursions, a model based algorithm is proposed which regulates the voltage input signal to the loudspeaker while minimizing unnecessary system interventions.

Improved capacitive touch screen responsiveness can be achieved at the expense of the touch screen controller analog hardware complexity and power consumption. This paper proposes a compressive sensing based approach to exploit the sparsity of simultaneous touches (e.g., 10 or less per person) with respect to the number of sensor nodes (e.g., 100s) to achieve similar levels of responsiveness with lower levels of analog complexity and power consumption. This is done by showing that the number of measurements required for touch detection is related to the number of touches rather than the number of nodes.

Implementation of energy-efficient real-time video coders in hardware becomes a new research frontier as the demand for High-Definition (HD) video encoders growing to be a part of popular applications in hand-held smartphones and tablets. In this paper, we tackle an important problem encountered in hardware video encoder design, which wastes hardware cycles (hence loss of battery power) and introduces delays by reducing data throughput. Video conferencing applications in smartphones such as FaceTime and Skype necessitate energy-efficient real-time video encoders. In these applications, the video encoder should produce independently decodable data units (e.g., H.264/AVC NAL-units, slices) with size smaller than the maximum transmission unit (MTU) size of the network, to prevent fragmentation of packets. In this paper, we propose a method that significantly reduces the requirement to flush hardware pipeline when maximum NAL-unit size is reached by accurate estimation of the bit-rates of macroblocks at very early stages in the encoding pipeline. With this new method, we ensure that our video encoders in communication terminals to produce H.241 compliant maximum NAL-units with minimum waste of hardware cycles. Experiments show that without our method encoder hardware needs more than 16,000 pipeline flushes for one minute of video, which can be reduced by order of magnitudes with the proposed method to hundred or even less flushes.

The accuracy and repeatability of computer aided cervical vertebra landmarking (CACVL) were investigated in cephalogram.120 adolescents (60 boys,60 girls) aged from 9.1 to 17.2 years old were randomly ***-seven landmarks from the second to fifth cervical vertebrae on the lat-eral cephalogram were *** this study,the system of CACVL was developed and used to iden-tify and calculate the landmarks by fast marching method and parabolic curve *** accuracy and repeatability in CACVL group were compared with those in two manual landmarking groups [orthodon-tic experts (OE) group and orthodontic novices (ON) group].The results showed that,as for the accu-racy,there was no significant difference between CACVL group and OE group no matter in x-axis or y-axis (P>0.05),but there was significant difference between CACVL group and ON group,as well as OE group and ON group in both axes (P<0.05).As for the repeatability,CACVL group was more reli-able than OE group and ON group in both *** is concluded that CACVL has the same or higher ac-curacy,better repeatability and less workload than manual landmarking ***’s reliable for cervi-cal parameters identification on the lateral cephalogram and cervical vertebral maturation prediction in orthodontic practice and research.

This paper presents a spatially adaptive super-resolution (SR) algorithm using homogeneous region analysis for minimizing undesired interpolation artifacts such as aliasing and jagged edges. The proposed regularized SR algorithm incorporates two constraints enforcing (i) disconnected edges to be reconnected and (ii) orientation-adaptive regularization. By combining two constraints in the regularization framework, the proposed SR algorithm can significantly reduce aliasing artifacts and, as a result, produce edge-preserved high-resolution (HR) images. In addition to the formulation of the regularized SR algorithm with hybrid constraints, experimental results show that the proposed SR algorithm improves peak-to-peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed HR images by up to 5[dB]over existing state-of-the-art SR methods.

At present, there are vast amounts of digital media available on the web. In the Web image retrieval, the semantics of an image is a big problem, generally, the search engines index the text associated to the image of Web pages. This text doesn't correspond really to them. The image annotation is an effective technology for improving the Web image retrieval. Indeed, it permits assigning semantics to an image, by attributing to the images keywords corresponding to the senses conveyed by these images. To improve the automatic image annotation (AIA), a strategy consists in correlating the textual and visual information of the images. In this work, we propose an image auto-annotation system based on AnnotB-LSA algorithm that integrates the LSA model. The main focus of this paper is two-fold. First, in the training stage, we perform clustering of regions into classes of similar visual regions called blobs according to their visual feature. This clustering prepares a visual space by learning from the annotated images corpus and permits to annotate the blobs by performing the algorithm annotB-LSA. Second, in the new image annotation stage, we can annotate a new image by selecting the key words of the blobs to which its regions belong. Experiment results show that our proposed system is performing. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Computerized human face recognition is a complex task of deformable pattern recognition. The principal source of complexities lies in the significant inter-class overlapping of faces due to the variations caused by different poses, illuminations, and expressions (PIE). The popularly used computerized face recognition algorithms like PCA, EBGM etc. are fairly reliable to determine facial attributes from an image. But, in most of the cases the features are extracted in terms of gray textures. When the database size is tuned to millions, then huge processing time is required, as each of the pixel must be represented using at least eight bits. In the present paper, our objective is to minimize the processing time by reducing the number of bits to represent each pixel. This we have done by combining two methods. The first one is a neuro-visually inspired method of figure-ground segregation (NFGS) which can convert the entire face image into a binary 2D array, efficiently. The second one is the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) which extracts the scale invariant and rotation invariant features from the binarized face image and thereafter matches the features. The proposed algorithm is found successful in actually enhancing the performance of face matching. Psycho-visual experiments also corroborate the fact.

Automatic suitable-matching area selection is an important research in visual guidance, scene matching and local non-texture target tracking. Meanwhile, it is the major research subject in computer vision and accurate guidance. In this paper, a new characteristic quantity, i.e., the edge direction dispersion was defined. Then the computation method, parameters selection and real-time realization of this characteristic quantity were investigated. Furthermore, the application of its characteristic in automatic suitable-matching area selection was studied. With a reasonable design for calculation precision, solving method for arctan(x) function in [-∞,+∞ ] could be simplified to linearization calculations in [0, 0.25], then a fast algorithm for arctan(x) function was presented. Experimental results showed that the sub-image extracted by our fast algorithm had higher matching level and was suitable to be a matching template. All the calculations involved in the proposed matching algorithm could be done in one filed period and the real-time request could be satisfied. Moreover, this characteristic of edge direction could also be used to measure the comparability of template and real-time images, which could be widely used in automatic target recognition and target tracking. © 2011 IEEE.
