In 2022, Indonesia initiated a pilot project to transition from liquid petroleum gas (LPG) stoves to induction stoves, targeting 8.2 million households by 2025. While LPG is considered a clean cooking fuel by the World Health Organization due to its low PM2.5 emissions, this program aims to further reduce CO2 emissions from cooking activities, aligning with Indonesia’s clean energy transition and 2060 Net Zero Emission goals. Throughout the program, doubts and criticisms arose among various sectors of society, particularly concerning the sustainability of this program. This research aims to determine and analyze the driving factors that support the sustainability of the induction stove transition program. Five sustainability aspects, namely, economic, social, environmental, technical, and institutional, were analyzed. A total of 315 Indonesian citizens participated as respondents in this research survey. The Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model (PLS–SEM) method was utilized as the analytical approach for the study. The results revealed that nine factors significantly influenced program sustainability, with the strongest impacts from technology costs (path coefficient = 0.859), contextual factors (0.803), electrical infrastructure (0.792), and community perception (0.773). Economic sustainability was driven by technology costs and business opportunities (0.643), while environmental sustainability was strongly influenced by electrical infrastructure. Post-installation support (0.307) and financial management (0.391) significantly impacted technical and institutional sustainability respectively. These empirical findings improve previous research on the sustainability of an energy transition program, which provides insights for researchers and stakeholders in the energy management field, especially in developing countries, for policy determination and decision-making. © 2025, Aalborg University Press. Background Oestrogen receptor (ER) signalling-dependent cancer cell growth is one of the major features of ER-positive breast cancer (BC). Inhibition of ER function is a standard and effective treatment for ER-positive tumours; however, ~20% of patients with ER-positive BC experience early or late recurrence. In this study, we examined intertumour heterogeneity from an epigenetic perspective based on the hypothesis that the intrinsic difference in epigenetic states around ER signalling pathway underlies endocrine therapy *** We performed transposase-accessible chromatin sequencing (ATAC-seq) analysis of 42 BC samples, including 35 ER-positive(+) human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative(−) and 7 triple-negative tumours. We also reanalysed ATAC-seq data of 45 ER + /HER2 − tumours in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) BC cohort to validate our *** We conducted a comprehensive analysis of cis-regulatory elements (CREs) using ATAC-seq, identifying three subgroups based on chromatin accessibility profiles. We identified a subgroup of ER-positive BCs with a distinctive chromatin accessibility pattern including reduced accessibility to ER-responsive elements (EREs). The same subgroup was also observed in TCGA BC cohort. Despite the reduced accessibility to EREs, the expression of ER and potential ER target genes were not decreased in these *** Our findings highlight the existence of a subset of ER-positive BCs with unchanged ER expression but reduced EREs accessibility that cannot be distinguished by conventional immunostaining for ER. In this paper, we explore legal argument mining using multiple levels of granularity. Argument mining has usually been conceptualized as a sentence classification problem. In this work, we conceptualize argument mining as a token-level (i.e., word-level) classification problem. We use a Longformer model to classify the tokens. Results show that token-level text classification identifies certain legal argument elements more accurately than sentence-level text classification. Token-level classification also provides greater flexibility to analyze legal texts and to gain more insight into what the model focuses on when processing a large amount of input data. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

As one of the most important economic industries, how to improve the quality and output of the coffee industry is important. Defective coffee beans affect the flavor of coffee after roasting and grinding. In order to reduce the cost of labor and time, it is effective to use a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to identify defective green coffee beans. However, the complexity and huge parameters of the CNN model make the edge computing devices spend too much time on identification. Therefore, we introduced a lightweight deep learning network Slim-CNN to classify green coffee beans. Experiment results show that Slim-CNN achieves 92% accuracy with 6 times fewer parameters than MobileNet and 270 times fewer parameters than VGG16. The Slim-CNN model can be used on different edge computing devices to reduce labor costs in the coffee industry and improve the quality of coffee. © 2022 IEEE.

This study combines AI voice synthesis with IoT to create a real-time multilingual translation system. Front-end devices capture the speaker's voice, which is then played back in both original and translated forms, enabling consecutive interpreting. This system is ideal for multilingual scenarios. After digitization, audio signals undergo speech-to-text conversion, multilingual translation, and text-to-speech processing. Speech synthesis matches the speaker's voice characteristics, allowing listeners to hear the translation in the speaker's voice. Both voice-to-text conversion and translated audio playback use Wi-Fi for data transmission, facilitating future applications. In validation, the average translation and transmission time for each speech segment were 410 ms and 3.38 s, respectively. The synthesized voice similarity analysis achieved an accuracy of 88%, showcasing the method's potential for system integration and development. © 2024 IEEE.

Protein S-sulfhydration involves the regulation of various protein functions, and resolving the S-sulfhydrated proteome (persulfidome) allows for a deeper exploration of various redox regulations. Therefore, we designed a reducible covalent capture method for isolating S-sulfhydrated proteins, which can analyze the persulfidome in biological samples and monitor specific S-sulfhydrated proteins. In this study, we applied this method to reveal the S-sulfhydration levels of proteins, including 3-phosphoglyceraldehyde dehydrogenase, NFκB/p65, and nucleolin. Furthermore, this technique can be used to enrich S-sulfhydrated peptides, aiding in the determination of protein S-sulfhydration modification sites. Finally, we observed that the S-sulfhydration and oxidation of nucleolin on the C543 residue correlate with its nuclear translocation, downstream regulation of p53, Bcl-xL, and Bcl-2 RNA levels and protein expression, as well as the protective function against oxidative stress. Therefore, this method may facilitate the understanding of the regulation of protein function by redox perturbation. © 2024 American Chemical Society

Assessing self-efficacy in interdisciplinary learning experiences and the effects of career-related predictors

Purpose: This study explores the extent of undergraduate students' engagement in interdisciplinary learning experiences across their academic journey and its potential correlation with elevated levels of self-efficacy in learning. Furthermore, the research investigates how the clarity of career decisions and future goals contributes to the perception of relevance, value and alignment of interdisciplinary learning experiences among undergraduate students. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire in a longitudinal survey administered annually to undergraduate students at a university in northern Taiwan over four waves from 2018 to 2021. The sample analyzed for this study consisted of 123 undergraduate students who willingly and continuously participated in the research throughout the specified period. Findings: The results showed that self-efficacy within interdisciplinary learning experiences could be classified into three clusters: high efficacy, moderate efficacy and fluctuating efficacy. The determinants influencing these clusters include career decisions and years spent in university. Undergraduate students who have determined their career decisions and are in their latter two years of undergraduate studies demonstrate higher self-efficacy in interdisciplinary learning. Conversely, students who have yet to determine their career decisions exhibit a fluctuating pattern of self-efficacy across the three interdisciplinary learning categories. research limitations/implications: Two key limitations of this research include a small sample size and a confined university-specific context, potentially constraining the applicability of the results to a broader population. Originality/value: This study contributes to the interdisciplinary learning experience in higher education by explaining the significance of undergraduates' self-efficacy and career-related factors. During the commercial production of watermelons, farmers must swiftly assess fruit ripeness post-harvest to minimize losses through sorting based on edibility time. This process enhances marketability and productivity but is often very tedious in traditional approaches. This article delves into the multifaceted realm of Internet of Things (IoT) based real-time watermelon ripeness evaluation. Watermelons, subject to diverse degrees of ripeness, significantly impact the fruit's taste and texture. Notably, watermelons cease to mature after detachment from the vine, underscoring the importance of selecting the ripest specimens at purchase. Prompt post-harvest fruit ripeness assessment is pivotal to mitigate losses, ensuring accurate sorting based on edibility timeline. Consequently, diligent watermelon ripeness assessment by farmers gains importance for enhanced marketability and productivity. While manual techniques like tapping, color examination, and day counting serve practical purposes, their accuracy relies on subjective judgment. Currently, the prevailing method for assessing watermelon ripeness is the sound test. This tapping technique surprisingly rests on logical grounds, as the resulting sounds offer an adequate ripeness indicator. However, personal interpretations of these sounds are influenced by subjective experiences and traditional wisdom. This article investigates non-destructive methodologies for evaluating watermelon ripeness. Then we propose WatermelonTalk, an IoT based real-time deep learning platform designed for acoustic watermelon testing. We also introduce the concept of the 'tapping ensemble,' not previously found in the literature, which significantly enhances prediction accuracy. The article's contributions encompass the most comprehensive categorization of watermelons in the literature, specifically categorizing 1698 watermelons across 343 varieties by ripeness. The MTS Resilience Integrated Action Team (RIAT) was established by the Coordinating Board of the US Committee on the Marine Transportation System (MTS) to focus on sharing federal agency knowledge to increase the resilience of the MTS. After the devastating 2017 hurricane season, the Coordinating Board requested that the RIAT gather information on the impacts, best practices, and lessons learned by federal agencies involved in the response and recovery of the MTS. The RIAT has focused its analysis on the ability of federal agency personnel to prepare, respond, recover, and adapt their response and recovery practices. Findings were gathered through annual workshops with first responders. A similar approach was adopted to gather findings from Hurricanes Florence and Michael (2018), Dorian (2019), and Laura, Delta, and Sally (2020). Utilizing successes, challenges, and best practices from the unique storms, the RIAT identified key takeaways in alignment with the four phases of resilience. © ASCE.
