The electronic states of tetrathiafulvalene (TTF: TTF = C6H4S4) molecule in organic ferroelectric TTF-p-bromanil (TTF-BA: BA = C6Br4O2) and TTF crystals have been investigated by x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurement at S K-edge. We elucidated that the peak structure at 2470.5 eV directly reflects the existence of hole in the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) state of the TTF molecule in TTF-BA; that is consistent with the ionic TTF molecule (TTF+). The XAS of TTF-BA was evaluated on the basis of first-principles calculations, and the calculated spectra reproduce well the shape of experimental spectrum and the peak energy of the HOMO state.

We studied lightly doped Si:P with high-frequency (80-120 GHz) ESR and ESR/NMR double magnetic resonance techniques in the temperature range down to 1.4 K. We found dynamic nuclear polarization of 31P from steady-state ESR measurements with approximately 3.6 T. We derived the nuclear spin relaxation time, T1N, of 31P by analysing the time-evolution of ESR spectra utilizing the dynamic nuclear polarization effect. We derive temperature and magnetic field dependence of T1N and compare with experimental data. Furthermore, from our ESR measurements, we modulate the nuclear polarization of 31P by applying an RF field.

It was found that the non-perturbative corrections calculated using Pythia with the Perugia 2011 tune did not include the effect of the underlying event. The affected correction factors were recomputed using the Pythia 6.427 generator. These corrections are applied as baseline to the NLO pQCD calculations and thus the central values of the theoretical predictions have changed by a few percent with the new corrections. This has a minor impact on the agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions. Figures 2 and 6 to 13, and all the tables have been updated with the new values. A few sentences in the discussion in sections 5.2 and 9 were altered or removed.

We previously proposed an eccentric figure-eight coil design which induces sufficient currents in the brain at lower output powers of stimulator. In the present study, numerical analyses were performed with various coil design parameters, such as outer and inner diameters and number of turns, to investigate the influence of these parameters on the eddy current distribution in the brain and the coil characteristics. Increases in the inner diameter, the outer diameter, and the number of turns caused increases in the induced currents. In order to downsize the stimulator system, we need to strengthen the eddy current in the brain, maintaining inductance as small as possible. Our results show that it is effective to enlarge outer diameter. In addition, there is only small difference in the eddy current distributions between the eccentric coil and the concentric coil in direction along with the coil plane and with depth of the brain.

Anodization of Ti-6Al-4V is crucial for dental implants because it promotes the roughness,chemical species and hydrophilicity of the surface that leads to its *** anodized film was prepared by the galvanostatic method at a low current density in either 1 M HPO or 1 M NaOH as the *** as-anodized film showed a significant decrease in the water contact angle,likely to be due to an increased surface roughness(as revealed by scanning electron and atomic force microcopy)and change in the surface species(as revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,XPS).XPS analyses confirmed that the Ti2p spectra scarcely changed while the O1s spectra significantly changed due to Ti-OH ***,the O/Ti ratio of the as-anodized film was *** results suggest that anodization by the galvanostatic method at a low current density in 1 M HPO or 1 M NaOH could enhance the surface roughness and chemical surface species,and that both are likely to be important factors for enhancing the hydrophilicity of the anodized films.

We propose in this paper a data compression scheme for large-scale particle simulations, which has favorable prospects for scientific visualization of particle systems. Our data compression concepts deal with the data of particle orbits obtained by simulation directly and have the following features: (i) Through control over the compression scheme, the difference between the simulation variables and the reconstructed values for the visualization from the compressed data becomes smaller than a given constant. (ii) The particles in the simulation are regarded as independent particles and the time-series data for each particle is compressed with an independent time-step for the particle. (iii) A particle trajectory is approximated by a polynomial function based on the characteristic motion of the particle. It is reconstructed as a continuous curve through interpolation from the values of the function for intermediate values of the sample data. We name this concept 'TOKI (Time-Order Kinetic Irreversible compression)'. In this paper, we present an example of an implementation of a data-compression scheme with the above features. Several application results are shown for plasma and galaxy formation simulation data.
