A control technique for O/M ratio was established for measurements of high temperature properties of uranium and plutonium mixed oxide fuels. Sintering behavior, thermal expansion and O/M change of (U0.7Pu 0.3)O2.00 and (U0.7Pu0.3)O 1.99 were investigated in P02-controlled atmosphere which was controlled by H2/H2O gas system. Sintering behavior changed drastically with O/M ratio, and shrinkage of (U0.7Pu 0.3)O2.00 was faster and more advanced at lower temperatures as compared with (U0.7Pu0.3)O1.99. Thermal expansion was observed to be slightly increased with decreasing O/M ratio.

Iris recognition becomes an important technology in our society. Visual patterns of human iris provide rich texture information for personal identification. However, it is greatly challenging to match intra-class iris images with large variations in unconstrained environments because of noises, illumination variation, heterogeneity and so on. To track current state-of-the-art algorithms in iris recognition, we organized the first ICB* Competition on Iris Recognition in 2013 (or ICIR2013 shortly). In this competition, 8 participants from 6 countries submitted 13 algorithms totally. All the algorithms were trained on a public database (e.g. CASIA-Iris-Thousand [3]) and evaluated on an unpublished database. The testing results in terms of False Non-match Rate (FNMR) when False Match Rate (FMR) is 0.0001 are taken to rank the submitted algorithms.

High complexity of understanding user's current situation is a crucial barrier to popularize context aware applications on smartphone. In order to overcome this barrier, we propose a context aware engine which eases the development of intelligent applications. Key feature of the engine is dynamic reconfiguration of the knowledge base depending on the current environments using linked data. We validated the usefulness of this feature via two in-house applications.

This paper introduces the contents of field operation tests (FOT) of an innovative advanced safety vehicle (ASV) services scheduled to be demonstrated by the Hiroshima ITS promotion council. The proposing services are realized by vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications between private cars and public transport vehicles, using dedicated on-board units on both vehicles and which premises the usage of ITS-dedicated radio frequency band. The images of developing services for the ITSWC2013 post congress tour between a tramcar and a private car have been described.

Studied here is a method to predict the long-term strength of CFRP structures (MMF/ATM method) based on the accelerated testing methodology (ATM) combined with the micromechanics of failure (MMF). The time-temperature dependent master curves of MMF/ATM constituent-based critical parameters are constructed according to static and cyclic load tests of four directions on unidirectional CFRP under various temperatures and measuring the time-temperature shift factor of viscoelastic behavior of transverse CFRP laminates. The long-term open hole compression (OHC) fatigue strength of quasi-isotropic CFRP laminate is predicted based on MMF/ATM method using the master curves of MMF/ATM critical parameters.

This paper describes a new tunnel ventilation control system called MPVC (Model-based Predictive Ventilation Control). The new system uses real-time traffic and ventilation simulators and it is possible to reduce at least 20 % or more of electricity consumption compared to previous tunnel ventilation control systems. This new control software has been already installed in 7 tunnels including the 1st and 2nd longest tunnels in Japan.
