Exploring the Appearance and Psychological Mechanism of HCPs’ Work-Life Balance

The physical and mental health issues of employees have received attention from all walks of life, especially front-line employees who are most likely to be ignored and lead to resignation. This study introduces the cognitive-affective processing system (CAPS) to explain the different degrees of work-life balance that occur due to the impact of individual differences when employees face abusive supervision. This study explored psychological ownership, attribution motivation for abusive supervision, and emotional intelligence, among other psychological variables, through a questionnaire survey of 582 health care providers (HCPs) including clinics, hospitals, long-term care institutions, other medical systems, etc. The research results show that abusive supervision can affect work-life balance through psychological ownership. Furthermore, psychological ownership can completely mediate the relationship between abusive supervision and work life enhancement, and when employees perceive abusive supervision, attributing it to performance promotion motives can effectively reduce the negative impact of abusive supervision on psychological ownership. © 2024, Chinese Society for Quality. The MTS Resilience Integrated Action Team (RIAT) was established by the Coordinating Board of the US Committee on the Marine Transportation System (MTS) to focus on sharing federal agency knowledge to increase the resilience of the MTS. After the devastating 2017 hurricane season, the Coordinating Board requested that the RIAT gather information on the impacts, best practices, and lessons learned by federal agencies involved in the response and recovery of the MTS. The RIAT has focused its analysis on the ability of federal agency personnel to prepare, respond, recover, and adapt their response and recovery practices. Findings were gathered through annual workshops with first responders. A similar approach was adopted to gather findings from Hurricanes Florence and Michael (2018), Dorian (2019), and Laura, Delta, and Sally (2020). Utilizing successes, challenges, and best practices from the unique storms, the RIAT identified key takeaways in alignment with the four phases of resilience. © ASCE.

Condition Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) is a growing topic among the aviation community, and key to its implementation is the optimal scheduling of maintenance activities. We previously used Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to architect the CBM+ implementation of a commercial maintenance optimization tool for a notional military aircraft fleet. Challenges in optimally scheduling preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance (PMx) activities using a letter-check maintenance strategy (e.g., A and C checks) motivated us to research the feasibility of a task-based, progressive maintenance strategy to support CBM+ *** this paper, we discuss our approach in exploring a progressive maintenance strategy, opportunities and CBM+ capabilities that are facilitated by the novel approach, and how MBSE is driving the design and development our maintenance scheduling optimization tool. Special attention is paid to how MBSE identified the systemic issues in the letter-check maintenance strategy that may be solved using a progressive maintenance approach, communicating these conceptual and logical changes among our cross-functional team, and how MBSE unified our continuous agile methodology to revamp our scheduling tool. Future work includes the continued development and testing of the tool guided by MBSE and incorporating enterprise and operational constraints into the tool using MBSE.

Exploring paper-based flexible thermoelectric generators (TEGs) is gaining traction as an innovative approach to sustainable energy harvesting. This study evaluates the microstructure and electrical properties of Bi2Te3-Sb2Te3 TEGs fabricated using white paper substrates. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the overall thermoelectric efficiency of the TEGs. We ensured consistency across samples by employing a uniform painting process to integrate thermoelectric material dispersion onto the white paper substrates. The experimental results demonstrate a clear correlation between white paper and the electrical performance of the TEGs, offering optimized performance due to improved electrical stability. Our findings suggest that selecting the appropriate white paper substrate is crucial for enhancing the efficiency of paper-based TEGs. This research contributes to developing high-performance, flexible thermoelectric devices and underscores the potential of tailored paper substrates in advancing sustainable energy technologies. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. Additive manufacturing (AM) methods enable complex, customized, and on-demand production of many products from different material types across various industries. The growing demands for flexible and more sustainable manufacturing solutions place AM in the mix of processes considered for non-commodities. However, AM processes also present unintentional environmental releases in end-of-life (EoL) opportunities, compromising the overall sustainability. Traditional sustainability assessment tools often fail to enable a comprehensive, risk-based approach to chemical safety decision-making. Therefore, an analysis was completed using efficiency, environmental, energy, and economic indicators from the GREENSCOPE (Gauging Reaction Effectiveness for the Environmental Sustainability of Chemistries with a multi-Objective Process Evaluator) tool. The trade-off analysis identified potential process modifications for pollution prevention, source reduction, risk mitigation, and overall sustainability improvements. The AM EoL-specific sustainability analysis serves as a resource to offer insights and empower policymakers and stakeholders to enhance pollution prevention strategies and optimize EoL material management processes. © 2024, The Authors. Background: New respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines have been approved in the USA for the prevention of RSV-associated lower respiratory tract disease in adults aged 60 years and older. Information on the real-world effectiveness of these vaccines is needed. Methods: We used electronic health records in the Veterans Health Administration to emulate a target trial comparing a single dose of a recombinant stabilised prefusion F protein RSV vaccine versus no vaccination among veterans aged 60 years and older. We matched eligible vaccine recipients with up to four unvaccinated individuals in four monthly nested sequential trials from Sept 1 to Dec 31, 2023. Outcomes were ascertained up to March 31, 2024. The primary outcome was any positive RSV test from day 14 following the matched index date. Secondary outcomes included hospitalisation and emergency department or urgent care encounter occurring within 1 day before or after a positive RSV test. We estimated vaccine effectiveness as 100 × (1 – risk ratio). Findings: We included 146 852 vaccinated individuals matched to 582 936 unique control individuals, weighted equally to represent 146 852 individuals. Across the two groups, 276 039 (94·0%) of 293 704 veterans were male, 17 665 (6·0%) were female, and median age was 75·9 years (IQR 71·7–79·7). Over a median follow-up of 124 days (IQR 102–150), the incidence rate of documented RSV infection was 1·7 (95% CI 1·4–2·1) events per 1000 person-years (88 total events) in the vaccinated group and 7·3 (6·6–8·1) per 1000 person-years in the unvaccinated group (372 total events), and vaccine effectiveness was estimated as 78·1% (72·6–83·5). Among the secondary outcomes, vaccine effectiveness was estimated at 78·7% (72·2–84·8) against RSV-associated emergency department or urgent care encounters, and 80·3% (65·8–90·1) against RSV-associated hospitalisation. The paper addresses process and tool development in support of qualification assessments of performance models. Details are provided regarding developing enablers in the fields of data science, uncertainty quantification, and machine learning. Performance models are delivered for assessment in all different shapes, for different purposes, with different pedigrees. All or parts of these models may be proprietary. Some models are delivered without documentation and pedigree, referred to as black box models. Traditionally these gaps in information, if possible, are filled by time-consuming, resource-intensive work of subject matter experts (SMEs). New processes and tools are proposed for reducing this burden and providing direction for SME efforts. The new approach is exercised for validation of an AH-64 performance model. Efforts contrast new applications of high-powered computational tools with the long-accepted SME-driven methods to establish value and increase capabilities. Results indicate that emerging methodologies can provide valuable guidance without SME involvement. © 2021 Vertical Flight Society.

Promotion of Special Purpose Rice Production Technology in Selected Municipalities in Nueva Ecija, Philippines

Special Purpose Rice (SPR) is a technology that consists of different rice varieties that were developed by Central Luzon State University. The unique varietal characteristics of SPR are pigmented, glutinous, good-yielding varieties planted in lowland areas. This study was conducted to increase farmers’ income through employing different promotion and extension activities and enterprise development. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Cost and return and benefit-cost analysis were used to determine the financial benefits of using the SPR in different production systems. Results revealed that incorporating the following parameters is critical in the sustainable adoption of the SPR. Amongst them are: ensuring that recommended production technologies are strictly followed by the farmers, ensuring the quality of seeds for planting, the presence of a market for the produce, engaging the farmers in value-adding activities like processing, capability development in entrepreneurship, and adopting clustering approach of the farmers to address economies of scale in marketing and processing. The use of SPR produced an average yield of 6.11 MT/ha and 5.04 MT/ha during the dry and wet seasons from 2021-2023, respectively, higher than the usual varieties of inbred rice. The net benefit from producing a CLS-2 variety of SPR is higher than regular rice, having an average difference of Php 22,355.53 per hectare from 2021-2023.
