This study investigates plasma-activated water (PAW) production enhancement using a Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) reactor integrated with graphene aerogel inserts. It explores the potential for thermoelectric energy recovery. The research focuses on optimizing PAW generation by leveraging graphene aerogel’s high surface area and porosity to improve plasma-water interaction and increase the dissolution of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS). Additionally, the study examines the integration of thermoelectric materials within the reactor system to recover and utilize the thermal energy generated during plasma activation. A rotating DBD reactor design facilitates dynamic mixing and enhances contact between plasma and water. Key parameters are systematically evaluated, including rotation speed, aerogel characteristics, discharge conditions, and thermoelectric material performance. Results indicate that graphene aerogel significantly boosts PAW production efficiency while including thermoelectric materials, contributing to energy recovery and making the process more sustainable. This dual advancement in PAW technology offers potential applications in biomedical treatments, environmental remediation, and energy-efficient industrial processes. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. In its pursuit of global university rankings, Indonesia introduced a series of higher education policies, one in 2014 to grant autonomy to a select group of universities, and another in 2017 to tie financial and promotional incentives to scientific publications for all researchers. To examine scientific productivity surrounding these policies, we use bibliometric data from Scopus spanning three decades from 1990 to 2020. We investigate the patterns of publication and collaboration and analyze them across journal quartiles, academic fields, and researcher cohorts. Our findings reveal that publications increased dramatically for both autonomous and non-autonomous higher education institutions after 2014. Single-university authorship was common practice and skewed publication quality towards Q3 and Q4 journals, while co-authorships with foreign organizations pulled the shift towards Q1 journals consistently across all fields. New researchers starting in 2014 published fewer Q1 and more Q3 and Q4 publications than the earlier cohort. We highlight policy implications on the need for a balance between publication quantity and quality and call on Indonesian policymakers to introduce holistic higher education reforms rather than introducing reforms that focus on the performance of the university for ranking purposes. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V. 2023.

Carbonaceous aerosols affect air quality adversely,affect global warming,and human ***,our understanding of the impact of ultrafine(PM_(0.1))carbonaceous particulate matter is incomplete,particularly the effects during haze *** study monitored diurnal variations in PM_(0.1) in Chiang Mai,Thailand,from March to April *** investigated carbonaceous PM_(0.1) collected by an ambient nano-sampler and evaluated their effect by using a carbon analyzer(IMPROVE_TOR).The results showed that burning large open areas in the dry season was crucial for increasing the particle mass concentration because of the large open burnings that occurred in this *** majority of biomass fires near the sampling site occurred during the night,which would allow more particles to be released thus resulting in higher concentrations of PM_(0.1).Hence,the release of PM_(0.1) during the night would obviously result in higher concentrations than that during the *** the eight carbon profiles,organic carbon 3(OC3)was predicted to be a marker of biomass *** carbon indices displayed that PM_(0.1) was influenced by biomass burning both daytime and *** findings reported herein should be of great impor-tance in terms of establishing biomass burning control policies for mitigating heavy haze pollution in Thailand and elsewhere.

Understanding rainforest habitats are made difficult by accessibility, the density of foliage, and coverage;yet it is vital for ecologist and conservationists to understand the variety and diversity of these ecosystems. An airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology has carried a breakthrough in the acquisition and management of forest data specifically on the aspect of forest inventory. LiDAR can accurately measure tree-level features such as tree elevation, crown dimension as well as derivative estimates such as trunk diameter (diameter at breast height-DBH). In order to do this, an accurate tree segmentation approaches within LiDAR data are required. Tree segmentation within LiDAR data always starts with by locating treetops through local maxima (LM). Wide-ranging efforts has been used to segment individual trees from LiDAR data by starting to localize treetops through LM within LiDAR data. In this study, a demonstration of a pipeline for new tree segmentation within LiDAR Point Cloud by integrating a new approach of detecting trees using deep learning-based object detection. Tree detection has been done using RetinaNet with a mean average precision (mAP) score of 90.73 % with a classification loss of 0.7732 and a regression loss of 0.1322. Tree segmentation within the LiDAR point cloud has been effective and possible using the coordinates of the bounding-box produced by the tree-detection. © 2019 IEEE.

Evaluation of prostate movement trend using individual patient anatomical information for prostate volumetric modulated arc therapy

Organ movement during prostate cancer radiotherapy can significantly impact treatment accuracy. This study aimed to investigate the relationship of prostate movement during the treatment period with pretreatment patient anatomical information. A total of 103 patients with prostate cancer who underwent volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) were included. Lesser pelvis space around the prostate and prostate volumes were contoured and measured using a radiotherapy treatment planning system (RTPS) and classified into 2 groups (< median, ≧ median). The median and standard deviation (SD) inter- and intra-fraction prostate movement during treatment was calculated in the anterior-posterior (AP), left-right (LR), and superior-inferior (SI) directions, and the correlation for anatomical information was analyzed. Statistical significance testing and percentile analysis were utilized to assess the inter- and intra-fraction prostate movement of 2 groups based on the parameters above. Significant differences in prostate volume (inter: AP, LR, and SI) were observed between the 2 groups. The SD of inter- and intra-fraction prostate movement in the LR direction exhibited low positive correlations with lesser pelvis space around the prostate and prostate volume (r > 0.3). In the 5th to 95th percentile range of prostate movement, patients with a prostate volume ≧ 30 mL showed an increase of >10% (inter: AP, SI, LR). These findings suggest that pelvic space around the prostate and prostate volume are correlated with prostate movement during radiotherapy, indicating their importance in optimizing prostate margins in treatment planning. © 2025

A Graph-Based Modeling Framework for Tracing Hydrological Pollutant Transport in Surface Waters

Anthropogenic pollution of hydrological systems affects diverse communities and ecosystems around the world. Data analytics and modeling tools play a key role in fighting this challenge, as they can help identify key sources as well as trace transport and quantify impact within complex hydrological systems. Several tools exist for simulating and tracing pollutant transport throughout surface waters using detailed physical models;these tools are powerful, but can be computationally intensive, require significant amounts of data to be developed, and require expert knowledge for their use (ultimately limiting application scope). In this work, we present a graph modeling framework-which we call HydroGraphs-for understanding pollutant transport and fate across waterbodies, rivers, and watersheds. This framework uses a simplified representation of hydrological systems that can be constructed based purely on open-source data (National Hydrography Dataset and Watershed Boundary Dataset). The graph representation provides a flexible intuitive approach for capturing connectivity and for identifying upstream pollutant sources and for tracing downstream impacts within small and large hydrological systems. Moreover, the graph representation can facilitate the use of advanced algorithms and tools of graph theory, topology, optimization, and machine learning to aid data analytics and decision-making. We demonstrate the capabilities of our framework by using case studies in the State of Wisconsin;here, we aim to identify upstream nutrient pollutant sources that arise from agricultural practices and trace downstream impacts to waterbodies, rivers, and streams. Our tool ultimately seeks to help stakeholders design effective pollution prevention/mitigation practices and evaluate how surface waters respond to such practices. © 2023, CC BY.

This study investigates the use of lime mud as an eco-friendly foaming additive in the production of glass foam. Glass foams were prepared through a simple sintering method, utilizing glass cullet collected from households and incorporating different lime mud contents (0.5-2.0wt%). The effects of lime mud concentration on the density, porosity, and pore size distribution of the glass foams were examined. Additionally, the thermal conductivity, compressive strength, and Weibull modulus were investigated in relation to the average porosity. The results revealed that the pore size distribution was dependent on the amount of lime mud, exhibiting three distinct distributions: positively skewed, non-symmetric bimodal, and symmetric bimodal. The compressive strength of the prepared glass foams ranged from 5.53 to 12.73 MPa, while the bulk density and porosity fell within the ranges of 0.41-0.70 and 72.12-85.38%, respectively. The thermal conductivity could be as low as 0.07 W/m⋅K, approaching the upper limit for commercial glass foams used in thermal energy storage systems and meeting the requirements for Type I cellular glass thermal insulation classified by ASTM C552-16. © 2024, The Authors.
