Optical analog signal processing has been gaining significant attention as a way to overcome the speed and energy limitations of digital techniques. Metasurfaces offer a promising avenue towards this goal due to their efficient manipulation of optical signals over deeply subwavelength volumes. To date, metasurfaces have been proposed to transform signals in the spatial domain, e.g., for beam steering, focusing, or holography, for which angular-dependent responses, or nonlocality, are unwanted features that must be avoided or mitigated. Here, we show that the metasurface nonlocality can be engineered to enable signal manipulation in the momentum domain over an ultrathin platform. We explore nonlocal metasurfaces performing basic mathematical operations, paving the way towards fast and power-efficient ultrathin devices for edge detection and optical image processing.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder that will affect children in terms of interpersonal communication, social interaction, and imaginative levels in play. Many therapies to help the motor neuron performance is one of them Pretend Play. Pretend Play is a therapy that invites children in playing to demonstrate something else and tell how to use objects that are considered in the child's imagination. However, in the era of highly developed technology, many fields have used the Augmented Reality method as a visualization of various aspects. With this method researchers will present the therapeutic visualization of the block to 3D transportation tool that is useful for strengthening motor nerves and visual strength of the child. The system can run well during marker detection, marker movement, and 3D object display with the accuracy of precision angle and distance between virtual world with real world reach 100% with angle 0 at distance 31 cm and the maximum distance from the marker is 46 cm and the maximum angle is 30˚.

This paper proposes a monitoring system to prevent falls from a bed. The position of patient on the bed is categorized as stable and unstable. The system has defined the unstable condition as the situation where a patient is lying on the edge of the bed. The patient was then observed using a thermal imagery camera. We extracted x-, and y-axis histograms that can be used as a feature, using this camera. We used the SVM (Support Vector Machine) to decide an optimal decision boundary and achieved an accuracy of 99.70%.

Mechanical motion can break the symmetry in which sound travels in a medium, but significant non-reciprocity is typically achieved only for very large motion speeds. Here we combine moving media with zero-index acoustic propagation, yielding extreme non-reciprocity and induced bianisotropy for modest applied speeds. The metamaterial is formed by an array of waveguides loaded by Helmholtz resonators, and it exhibits opposite signs of the refractive index sustained by asymmetric Willis coupling for propagation in opposite directions. We use this response to design a nonreciprocal acoustic lens focusing only when excitation from one side, with applications for imaging and ultrasound technology. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Mass casualty events caused by a biological weapon require fully capable first response teams. However, human first responders are equipped with protective gear, which limits their capabilities to complete tasks. Robots can be employed to work collaboratively with the first responders in order to augment the human's reduced abilities. The robot needs to understand and adapt to the human's workload level in order for the human-machine team to effectively complete tasks. The automatic detection of human workload levels can provide valuable insight into the human's capabilities, as workload has a direct relationship with task performance. The robot can monitor the objective metrics of the human's workload level in order to accurately estimate workload via a workload assessment algorithm. The algorithm must be able to assess overall workload and the components of workload, in order for the robot to correctly adapt its interactions or reallocate tasks among the team. A novel workload assessment algorithm that provides an accurate estimate of overall workload and each workload component is presented and evaluated. The algorithm is capable of distinguishing between high and low workload conditions; however, the algorithm's workload values correlate poorly to a generated workload model. Modifications to enhance the algorithm's capabilities are discussed and will be investigated in future work.

WAN Optimization to Speed up Data Transfer

Currently the development of digital technology has advanced very rapidly, as well as data storage and data transfer. As the development of information technology and the use of data that increasingly large, it will be a main factor that affects to the company’s business. The amount of data that must be processed both at headquarters and other branch offices make the process of data exchange become the main issue in term of speed and delay. Due to data exchange being a top priority in the company, often the WAN network bandwidth used by the file system, email system, proxy, web system becomes peak or full during peak hours thus slowing down accessing file or email system. One method to reduce bandwidth usage is almost full is to use WAN Optimization tools. WAN Optimization has several functions, including Data Streamlining, Transport Streamlining, and Application Streamlining. The purpose of this study is to analyze performance network when WAN optimization was applied in the system. Data is taken from simulated file transfers conducted several days and at different hours. Data were analyzed using Wireshark tools and calculation formula. The results can be seen if there is a significant increasing performance, delay become better from 287 ms to 0.604 ms for file size 93 MB and jitter increased 12.4% better. It can be concluded that with the optimization of WAN, the process of data transfer becomes more efficient both in bandwidth and time during working hours.

Hopfions are three-dimensional (3D) topological textures characterized by the integer Hopf invariant QH. Here, we present the realization of a zero-field, stable hopfion spin texture in a magnetic system consisting of a chiral magnet nanodisk sandwiched by two films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The preimages of the spin texture and numerical calculations of QH show that the hop-fion has QH = 1. Furthermore, another non-trivial state that includes a monopole{antimonopole pair (MAP) is also stabilized in this system. By applying an external magnetic field, hopfion and MAP states with the same polarization can be switched between each other. The topological transition between the hopfion and the MAP state involves a creation (annihilation) of the MAP and twist of the preimages. Our work paves the way to study non-trivial 3D topological spin textures and stimulates more investigations in the field of 3D spintronics. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Underwater multi-robot convoying using visual tracking by detection

We present a robust multi-robot convoying approach that relies on visual detection of the leading agent, thus enabling target following in unstructured 3-D environments. Our method is based on the idea of tracking-by-detection, which interleaves efficient model-based object detection with temporal filtering of image-based bounding box estimation. This approach has the important advantage of mitigating tracking drift (i.e. drifting away from the target object), which is a common symptom of model-free trackers and is detrimental to sustained convoying in practice. To illustrate our solution, we collected extensive footage of an underwater robot in ocean settings, and hand-annotated its location in each frame. Based on this dataset, we present an empirical comparison of multiple tracker variants, including the use of several convolutional neural networks, both with and without recurrent connections, as well as frequency-based model-free trackers. We also demonstrate the practicality of this tracking-by-detection strategy in real-world scenarios by successfully controlling a legged underwater robot in five degrees of freedom to follow another robot’s independent motion.
