The mandatory carbon reduction guidelines and regulations in Indonesia encourage all industrial sectors particularly the petroleum industry to implement decarbonization programs by systematically reducing carbon emissions as part of climate action. Unlike existing carbon emission studies in the petroleum industry, the literature lacks studies on the decarbonization patterns. In addition, the effectiveness of carbon mitigation in the upstream oil and gas field has not been studied so far. This study developed short panel data models to understand the current decarbonization efforts and patterns during 2015–2018. The results indicate that the considered variables are significantly impactful in carbon reduction with different coefficient patterns. It is suggested to associate decarbonization with oil and gas production and highlight energy efficiency optimization to stabilize production. The impact of financial, human, and administrative resources on the supporting facility is critical for executing sustainable carbon mitigation projects. © 2024 The Authors

electrical signals from the human body are constantly the focus of research, searching for a better understanding of physiological events, discovering early signs of disease, and improving life quality. Developing devices that allow research beyond the usual requirements and allow easy adaptation regarding the system’s acquisition, conditioning, and processing parts could be a step toward better understanding some behaviours. Therefore, this work focused on designing a system that goes from the discrete components to a graphical interface, allowing user control of parameters to set the acquisition in a way that favours the specific signal of interest. The resulting system allows the user to change parameters regarding the analogue and digital filtering, sampling frequency and events detection, namely R-peaks, in the electrocardiogram, to estimate heart rate and its frequency fluctuation, and muscle contraction in electromyogram, to analyse contraction strength and muscle fatigue. The system also allows the data to be stored, aiming to generate datasets to further process the data in AI-based algorithms.

Qualitative planning in imperfect information games with active sensing and reactive sensor attacks: Cost of unawareness

We consider the probabilistic planning problem where the agent (called Player 1, or P1) can jointly plan the control actions and sensor queries in a sensor network and an attacker (called player 2, or P2) can carry out attacks on the sensors. We model such an adversarial interaction using a formal model-a reachability game with partially controllable observation functions. The main contribution of this paper is to assess the cost of P1's unawareness: Suppose P1 misinterprets the sensor failures as probabilistic node failures due to unreliable network communication, and P2 is aware of P1's misinterpretation in addition to her partial observability. Then, from which states can P2 carry out sensor attacks to ensure, with probability one, that P1 will not be able to complete her reachability task even though, due to misinterpretation, P1 believes that she can almost-surely achieve her task. We develop an algorithm to solve the almost-sure winning sensor-attack strategy given P1's observation-based strategy. Our attack analysis could be used for attack detection in wireless communication networks and the design of provably secured attack-aware sensor allocation in decision-theoretic models for cyber-physical systems. Recently synthesized Porous 12-Atom-Wide Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons (12-AGNRs) [Nano Lett. 2024, 24, 10718-10723]exhibit tunable properties through periodic porosity, enabling precise control over their electronic, optical, thermal, and mechanical behavior. This work presents a comprehensive theoretical characterization of pristine and porous 12-AGNRs based on density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. DFT calculations reveal substantial electronic modifications, including band gap widening and the emergence of localized states. Analyzed within the Bethe–Salpeter equation (BSE) framework, optical properties highlight strong excitonic effects and significant absorption shifts. Thermal transport simulations indicate a pronounced reduction in conductivity due to enhanced phonon scattering at nanopores. At the same time, MD-based mechanical analysis shows decreased stiffness and strength while maintaining structural integrity. Despite these modifications, porous 12-AGNRs remain mechanically and thermally stable. Deceptive labeling: Hypergames on graphs for stealthy deception

With the increasing sophistication of attacks on cyber-physical systems, deception has emerged as an effective tool to improve system security and safety by obfuscating information or providing misleading information. In this paper, we present a solution to the deceptive game in which a control agent is to satisfy a Boolean objective specified by a co-safe temporal logic formula in the presence of an adversary. The agent intentionally introduces asymmetric information to create payoff misperception. This is done by masking information about the logical formula satisfied given the outcome of the game. We introduce hypergames on graphs as a model to capture the asymmetrical information with one-sided payoff misperception. We present the solution of such a hypergame for synthesizing stealthy deceptive strategies that exploit adversary’s misperception. Specifically, deceptive sure winning and deceptive almost-sure winning strategies are developed by reducing the hypergame to a two-player game and one-player stochastic game with reachability objectives. The pandemic has shown viral capacity in massive spreading and environmental adaptability for years. It has infected millions of people with several symptoms leading to millions of mortality worldwide. Its fast-spreading capacity, unpredictability prognosis and variants appearance are leading big threats, particularly to the health facilities. Therefore, appropriate health protection equipment, including adequate and safe decontamination procedures, is required to support the facilities in overcoming potential future contaminating pathogens. Unfortunately, only a few studies evaluated the utilization of medical decontamination devices. Rapid and massive manufacturing of decontamination devices without further and adequate post-monitoring may have several side effects. Therefore, careful and continuing consideration and evaluation studies are necessary to maintain the devices’ quality and performance. This study aims to evaluate the ability of UV lights as laboratory devices to impair viral components. Clinical RNA samples were provided by the COVID-19 laboratory examiner as blinded samples without any subject information. SARS-CoV2 RNA (a viral representative RNA material) extract was exposed to 5 different UV lights, with different distances and exposure duration. The exposed RNA was then sequentially used as a cDNA template and DNA amplification. Amplification products were visualized by electrophoresis and densitometry analysis. Visualization and densitometry analysis showed that the UV-LED Nichia NCSU 334 had the most significant disruptive ability among the tested lights. The exposure duration and distance altered the effectiveness of UV light in damaging viral genetic material. UV-LED Nichia NCSU 334 could be suggested as an alternative UV source in a UV light-based disinfection system. This study proposed direct evidence for evaluating decontamination devices to ensure the effectiveness of the decontamination process.

Secure-by-synthesis network with active deception and temporal logic specifications

This paper is concerned with the synthesis of strategies in network systems with active cyber deception. Active deception in a network employs decoy systems and other defenses to conduct defensive planning against the intrusion of malicious attackers who have been confirmed by sensing systems. In this setting, the defender's objective is to ensure the satisfaction of security properties specified in temporal logic formulas. We formulate the problem of deceptive planning with decoy systems and other defenses as a two-player games with asymmetrical information and Boolean payoffs in temporal logic. We use level-2 hypergame with temporal logic objectives to capture the incomplete/incorrect knowledge of the attacker about the network system as a payoff misperception. The true payoff function is private information of the defender. Then, we extend the solution concepts of ω-regular games to analyze the attacker's rational strategy given her incomplete information. By generalizing the solution of level-2 hypergame in the normal form to extensive form, we extend the solutions of games with safe temporal logic objectives to decide whether the defender can ensure security properties to be satisfied with probability one, given any possible strategy that is perceived to be rational by the attacker. Further, we use the solution of games with co-safe (reachability) temporal logic objectives to determine whether the defender can engage the attacker, by directing the attacker to a high-fidelity honeypot. Fuzzy logic is a control technique commonly applied in mobile robotics. This paper contains the analysis of three implementations of control systems for obstacle avoidance of a mobile robot. The simulation environment simulate situations with both fixed and dynamic obstacles - like people walking - aiming to compare the fuzzy control approach most suitable to avoid different kinds of obstacles. The analyzed approaches differ by segmenting the sensor data (provided by a LiDAR sensor) into three regions, five regions or by considering only the position of the nearest obstacle. The three approaches were tested in scenarios containing different obstacles and in a simulation where the robot delivers to tables in a dynamic environment, simulating a social event as an application example of a waiter robot.

In late stages of Parkinson's Disease (PD) or Essential Tremor (ET), surgical treatments, such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), are promising. However, conventional DBS devices are open-loop systems in which the stimulation intensity is constant regardless of the dynamic behavior of motor manifestations. In this sense the seek to objective strategies that can assess the efficacy of DBS is relevant for the development of precise medicine, promoting the implementation of closed-loop DBS. This study proposes the use of individualized Gaussian models to evaluate the motor signs of people with PD and ET considering DBS in ON and OFF states. Inertial data were collected from the left and right hands and forearms of the participants. After data preprocessing, amplitude and variability-based features were extracted to estimate specific Gaussian models for each individual. An objective metric that is sensitive to the distance of models from DBS in ON and OFF states was proposed. The specific Gaussian models allowed for the estimate of tremor probability in the DBS states. The estimated values of the proposed metric discriminated between the DBS ON and OFF states, and the verification of the DBS effect on the motor sign of each individual. The specific Gaussian models can be used as part of a closed-loop DBS system to estimate the tremor severity of patients.
