Lumbar spine localisation method based on feature fusion

To eliminate unnecessary background information,such as soft tissues in original CT images and the adverse impact of the similarity of adjacent spines on lumbar image segmentation and surgical path planning,a two‐stage approach for localising lumbar segments is ***,based on the multi‐scale feature fusion technology,a non‐linear regression method is used to achieve accurate localisation of the overall spatial region of the lumbar spine,effectively eliminating useless background information,such as soft *** the second stage,we directly realised the precise positioning of each segment in the lumbar spine space region based on the non‐linear regression method,thus effectively eliminating the interference caused by the adjacent *** 3D Intersection over Union(3D_IOU)is used as the main evaluation indicator for the positioning *** an open dataset,3D_IOU values of 0.8339�0.0990 and 0.8559�0.0332 in the first and second stages,respectively is *** addition,the average time required for the proposed method in the two stages is 0.3274 and 0.2105 s ***,the proposed method performs very well in terms of both pre-cision and speed and can effectively improve the accuracy of lumbar image segmentation and the effect of surgical path planning.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) and blockchain technology are two rapidly evolving areas in computer science that have the potential to significantly impact the design and operation of distributed systems. MEC involves the deployment of computing resources and services at the edge of the network, closer to the end users, enabling lowlatency, high-bandwidth applications such as augmented reality and machine learning. Blockchain technology, on the other hand, is a distributed database that allows for secure, transparent, and immutable record-keeping, with potential applications in a wide range of industries. In this project, we explore the integration of MEC and blockchain technology for the management of distributed computing resources at the edge of the network. We review the state of the art in these two areas, including existing projects and prototypes, and describe our materials and method for evaluating their potential for integration. Our results show that the combination of MEC and blockchain has the potential to enable new applications and services that require both low latency and secure, decentralized data management. We conclude by summarizing the main contributions of our work and discussing future directions for research in this area. Our findings have implications for the design and operation of distributed systems, and have the potential to enable new applications and services in a wide range of industries. © 2023 IEEE.

Differential signals are key in control engineering as they anticipate future behavior of process variables and therefore are critical in formulating control laws such as proportional-integral-derivative(PID).The practical challenge,however,is to extract such signals from noisy measurements and this difficulty is addressed first by *** in the form of linear and nonlinear tracking differentiator(TD).While improvements were made,TD did not completely resolve the conflict between the noise sensitivity and the accuracy and timeliness of the *** two approaches proposed in this paper start with the basic linear TD,but apply iterative learning mechanism to the historical data in a moving window(MW),to form two new iterative learning tracking differentiators(IL-TD):one is a parallel IL-TD using an iterative ladder network structure which is implementable in analog circuits;the other a serial IL-TD which is implementable digitally on any computer *** algorithms are validated in simulations which show that the proposed two IL-TDs have better tracking differentiation and de-noise performance compared to the existing linear TD.

In this report, we explore the key challenges and threats facing network security in wired and wireless environments, as well as the technologies and best practices for addressing these challenges. We provide an overview of the key concepts and terminology related to network security, trust, and privacy, and discuss the role of encryption in maintaining trust and privacy in these environments. In recent years, the global robot market has witnessed substantial growth, particularly in the domain of service robots. Despite their expanding presence, service robots encounter limitations when operating autonomously in unstructured environments, primarily due to their constrained computational capacities. As a solution, the fusion of cloud and edge computing resources becomes imperative to expedite task inference and enhance scenario perception capabilities. The integration of cloud-edge-device models holds significant promise in bolstering the operational efficiency of robots. This entails the dynamic partitioning of intricate robotic tasks, executed collaboratively across cloud, edge, and device resources. In this landscape, deep neural network (DNN) models play a pivotal role in facilitating a wide array of robotic tasks. The inference time for each layer of a DNN model in actual deployment, emerges as a critical determinant in the model's partitioning strategy. It also serves as an important metric influencing the model's suitability for a specific hardware platform. This article presents an overview of recent advancements in predicting inference and training time of DNN models, summarizes the related methods, and finally discusses the challenges in this field and the research that can be studied in the future. © 2023 IEEE.

Inhibition of CD82 improves colitis by increasing NLRP3 deubiquitination by BRCC3

CD82 is a transmembrane protein that is involved in cancer suppression and activates immune cells;however, information on the NLRP3 inflammasome is limited. Herein, we show that although CD82 suppressed the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in vivo and in vitro, CD82 deficiency decreased the severity of colitis in mice. Furthermore, two binding partners of CD82, NLRP3 and BRCC3, were identified. CD82 binding to these partners increased the degradation of NLRP3 by blocking BRCC3-dependent K63-specific deubiquitination. Previous studies have shown that CD82-specific bacteria in the colon microbiota called Bacteroides vulgatus (B. vulgatus) regulated the expression of CD82 and promoted the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Accordingly, we observed that B. vulgatus administration increased mouse survival by mediating CD82 expression and activating NLRP3 in mice with colitis. Overall, this study showed that CD82 suppression reduced the pathogenesis of colitis by elevating the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome through BRCC3-dependent K63 deubiquitination. Based on our findings, we propose that B. vulgatus is a novel therapeutic candidate for colitis.

Swallowing assessment is a crucial task to reveal swallowing abnormalities. There are multiple modalities to analyze swallowing kinematics, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), which is the gold standard method, and high-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA), which is a noninvasive technique that uses a triaxial accelerometer attached to the patient's neck. Deep learning models play an essential role in data driven analysis of swallowing landmarks using VFSS and/or HRCA as input data. Most of these models utilize convolutional and recurrent neural networks. Here, we investigate the ability of transformers to analyze swallowing kinematics;specifically upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure using HRCA signals. We tested the model using an independent test dataset to assess the generalizability of the proposed network. The proposed network achieved an average detection accuracy higher than 90% and 85% for both segmentation tasks, which outperform the hybrid neural networks from the literature, and the model obtained high-performance measures for the independent dataset, showing the transformers' ability to generalize on unseen data. © 2024 IEEE.

A Stable Task Assignment Mechanism for Multi-Platform Mobile Crowdsensing

Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) is a new paradigm for Internet of Things. It can fully utilize the smart devices carried by mobile users for accomplishing various sensing tasks. Most existing task assignment mechanisms have assumed the availability of just a single service platform and without considering the preference of users and platforms. In this paper, we focus on studying how to design efficient task assignment mechanism when there are multiple service platforms in the MCS system and further the preferences of both users and platforms are considered while the sensing quality of each user is unknown in advance. The design objective is to maximize the overall sensing qualities of all completed tasks while respecting the budget constraint of each platform. We build a multi-platform oriented task assignment framework and formulate the problem under study as a 0-1 integer linear programming (ILP) problem. We propose a Multi-platform Stable Task Assignment mechanism (MSTA). MSTA works in a round by round manner. In each round, MSTA first performs budget splitting among different task locations for each platform, then makes stable matching between users and platforms and performs online learning of users' sensing qualities by using the multi-armed bandit (MAB) model. We deduce the time complexity of MSTA and prove that MSTA has the properties of stability, individual rationality, budget feasibility, and truthfulness. Simulation results demonstrate the high performance of the proposed MSTA mechanism. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper proposes to pretrain Conformer with automatic speech recognition (ASR) task for speaker verification. Conformer combines convolution neural network (CNN) and Transformer model for modeling local and global features, respectively. Recently, multi-scale feature aggregation Conformer (MFA-Conformer) has been proposed for automatic speaker verification. MFA-Conformer concatenates frame-level outputs from all Conformer blocks for further pooling. However, our experiments show that Conformer can be easily overfitted with limited speaker recognition training data. To avoid overfitting, we propose to transfer the knowledge learned from ASR to speaker verification. Specifically, an ASR pretrained Conformer is used to initialize the training of MFA-Conformer for speaker verification. Our experiments show that pretraining Conformer with ASR leads to significant performance gains across model sizes. The best model achieves 0.48%, 0.71% and 1.54% EER on Voxceleb1-O, Voxceleb1-E, and Voxceleb1-H, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

I have studied how artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) is applied in a sustainable system called "Eugenie"for my work, project, and thesis. In this project, I get to discuss Eugenie's role in ensuring the sustainability of large environmental business organizations. I also get to discuss how it aids operation managers in making predictions about when their machines will break down days, weeks, and months in advance, allowing them to schedule maintenance cycles more effectively. In other words, Eugenie provides plant operators with data so they can prioritize repairs. Eugenie executes this process by utilizing real-time data from numerous sensors attached to large machinery and equipment in the process industry, metals and mining, oil and gas, and smart cities industries. Two products make up this program;the first is named RAY-FINN and the second is called PAPILLON. Eugenie assists businesses in a variety of ways, including:•Aids in the attainment of operational excellence by process organizations•Always raise overall profitability.•Contributes to a greener and safer future. © 2023 IEEE.
