Grasping is a critical motor skill essential for daily activities, but it is often compromised in individuals with neural impairments. Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) has emerged as a promising intervention, utilizing electrical pulses to stimulate muscles and thereby restore impaired motor functions. However, existing closed-loop FES systems depend on pre-calibrated angles or forces specific to individual objects, which limits their practicality in dynamic, real-world environments with varying object properties. This paper presents a novel closed-loop FES (CLFES) system with visual feedback, designed to dynamically adjust stimulation parameters based on real-time interaction states without requiring object-specific calibration. The system employs a finite state machine to manage sequential grasp-release tasks and integrates a visual perception module for slip detection and intent recognition. The system was tested with two individuals with disabilities on five common household objects. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements, including a 42.6% increase in success rate and a 45.9% reduction in task completion time compared to tasks performed without the system. These results underscore the system's potential to improve daily task performance for individuals with neural impairments. © 2018 IEEE.

With the advancements in satellite communication, there arises a demand for the secure transmission of satellite and remote sensing images to the ground monitoring stations which has significant challenges due to the increased threat of cyber-attacks and the sensitive nature of those images. Existing classical cryptography methods fail to meet the advanced security demands. Thus, there arises a need for advanced cryptography techniques which ensure secure transmission of data in satellite communication. Recent advancements in quantum computing and research have shown that leveraging quantum mechanics and principles enhances security. We propose a novel quantum-based image encryption technique for securing satellite and remote sensing images during transmission named QCrypt. QCrypt utilizes the power of quantum chaotic maps, classic chaotic maps, and DNA encoding techniques to ensure the security of the images. QCrypt has been tested using a remote sensing image dataset and achieved increased performance in terms of resistance to histogram analysis, differential attacks, and chosen- plaintext attacks compared to traditional encryption methods. Our approach addresses the critical need for secure satellite data transmission and the use of quantum-based encryption to meet security demands. © 2024 IEEE.

Colored Petri Nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state space explosion problem. A reduced state space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Improved Belief Propagation Decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar Codes with Bit-Freezing

Though belief propagation bit-flip(BPBF)decoding improves the error correction performance of polar codes,it uses the exhaustive flips method to achieve the error correction performance of CA-SCL decoding,thus resulting in high decoding complexity and *** alleviate this issue,we incorporate the LDPC-CRC-Polar coding scheme with BPBF and propose an improved belief propagation decoder for LDPC-CRC-Polar codes with bit-freezing(LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz).The proposed LDPCCRC-Polar codes BPBFz employs the LDPC code to ensure the reliability of the flipping set,i.e.,critical set(CS),and dynamically update *** modified CS is further utilized for the identification of error-prone *** proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz obtains remarkable error correction performance and is comparable to that of the CA-SCL(L=16)decoder under medium-to-high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)*** gains up to 1.2dB and 0.9dB at a fixed BLER=10-4compared with BP and BPBF(CS-1),*** addition,the proposed LDPC-CRC-Polar codes BPBFz has lower decoding latency compared with CA-SCL and BPBF,i.e.,it is 15 times faster than CA-SCL(L=16)at high SNR regions.

Vision-based object manipulation in assistive mobile cobots essentially relies on classifying the target objects based on their 3D shapes and features, whether they are deformed or not. In this work, we present an auto-generated dataset of deformed objects specific for assistive mobile cobot manipulation using an intuitive Laplacian-based mesh deformation procedure. We first determine the graspable region of the robot hand on the given object’s mesh. Then, we uniformly sample handle points within the graspable region and perform deformation with multiple handle points based on the robot gripper configuration. In each deformation, we identify the orientation of handle points and prevent self-intersection to guarantee the object’s physical meaning when multiple handle points are simultaneously applied to the mesh at different deformation intensities. We also introduce a lightweight neural network for 3D deformable object classification. Finally, we test our generated dataset on the Baxter robot with two 7-DOF arms, an integrated RGB-D camera, and a 3D deformable object classifier. The result shows that the robot is able to classify real-world deformed objects from point clouds captured at multiple views by the RGB-D camera. Accurate nuclei segmentation is fundamental in histology image analysis, playing an essential role in cancer grading and diagnosis. However, this task remains challenging due to variations in staining protocols, heterogeneity among nuclei types, and the densely clustered nature of nuclei. While SAM exhibits zero-shot generalization capabilities in natural image segmentation, its performance degrades when applied to nuclei segmentation in histology images. Existing adaptations of SAM for medical imaging primarily focus on organ or lesion segmentation, which differs substantially from nuclei segmentation due to the unique characteristics of nuclei - specifically, their sparse distribution combined with dense clustering. To address these challenges, we propose Edge-SAN (Segment Any Nuclei with Edge Prompting), an interactive segmentation foundation model specifically designed for nuclei segmentation. Edge-SAN introduces a novel edge prompting method that enhances the delineation of nuclei boundaries, particularly among densely clustered nuclei, by leveraging edge information to improve segmentation accuracy. We evaluate Edge-SAN on 12 diverse datasets in both few-shot and zero-shot scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness as a foundation model for nuclei segmentation, achieving 66.81% AJI and 73.13% DSC - improvements of 16.33% and 15.48% over SAM-Med2D, respectively. Breast cancer is the main lead of women's cancer-related mortalities. Therefore, early detection is imperative for preventing breast cancer from developing to advanced stages. Moreover, the emergence of computer-aided diagnosis systems combined with Deep Learning techniques improve breast cancer diagnosis at its early stages. This study proposes a system for classifying mammogram images scanned from different views based on Deep learning techniques. In this paper, we propose combining four pre-trained models in one system employing the Transfer Learning technique with different input images of the same lesion. This proposed system provides a binary classification of the lesion into malignant or benign classes. The Mini-DDSM dataset images were used in this study;the images were pre-processed and augmented to achieve the best results. Several well-known pre-trained models for image classification (ResNet, Xception, DenseNet, MobileNet, and Inception) were experimented with for the proposed model construction. The study results showed that our proposed model achieved an accuracy of 94.18%, a precision of 94.26%, a recall of 94.16%, and an F1-Score of 94.21%, outperforming the pre-trained model on classifying mammogram images of the same dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

W-type barium-nickel ferrite(BaNi_(2)Fe_(16)O_(27))is a highly promising material for electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorption be-cause of its magnetic loss capability for EMW,low cost,large-scale production potential,high-temperature resistance,and excellent chemical ***,the poor dielectric loss of magnetic ferrites hampers their utilization,hindering enhancement in their EMW-absorption *** efficient strategies that improve the EMW-absorption performance of ferrite is highly desired but re-mains ***,an efficient strategy substituting Ba^(2+)with rare earth La^(3+)in W-type ferrite was proposed for the preparation of novel La-substituted ferrites(Ba_(1-x)LaxNi_(2)Fe_(15.4)O_(27)).The influences of La^(3+)substitution on ferrites’EMW-absorption performance and the dissipative mechanism toward EMW were systematically explored and ***^(3+)efficiently induced lattice defects,enhanced defect-induced polarization,and slightly reduced the ferrites’bandgap,enhancing the dielectric properties of the ***^(3+)also enhanced the ferromagnetic resonance loss and strengthened magnetic *** effects considerably improved the EMW-absorption perform-ance of Ba_(1-x)LaxNi_(2)Fe_(15.4)O_(27)compared with pure W-type *** x=0.2,the best EMW-absorption performance was achieved with a minimum reflection loss of-55.6 dB and effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 3.44 GHz.

Detection of Perfect Stealthy Attacks on Cyber-Physical Systems Subject to Measurement Quantizations: A Watermark-Based Strategy

In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.
