The Gaia Data Release 2 provides precise astrometry for nearly 1.5 billion sources across the entire sky, including several thousand asteroids. In this work, we provide evidence that reasonably large asteroids (diameter >20 km) have high correlations with Gaia relative flux uncertainties and systematic R.A. errors. We further capture these correlations using a logistic Bayesian additive regression tree model. We compile a small list of probable large asteroids that can be targeted for direct diameter measurements and shape reconstruction.

A signed network is a network with each link associated with a positive or negative sign. Models for nodes interacting over such signed networks, where two different types of interactions take place along the positive and negative links, respectively, arise from various biological, social, political, and economic systems. As modifications to the conventional DeGroot dynamics for positive links, two basic types of negative interactions along negative links, namely the opposing rule and the repelling rule, have been proposed and studied in the literature. This paper reviews a few fundamental convergence results for such dynamics over deterministic or random signed networks under a unified algebraic-graphical method. We show that a systematic tool of studying node state evolution over signed networks can be obtained utilizing generalized Perron-Frobenius theory, graph theory, and elementary algebraic recursions. Distributed Kalman Filters with state equality constraints: Time-based and event-triggered communications

In this paper, we investigate a distributed estimation problem for multi-agent systems with state equality constraints (SEC). First, under a time-based consensus communication protocol, applying a modified projection operator and the covariance intersection fusion method, we propose a distributed Kalman filter with guaranteed consistency and satisfied SEC. Furthermore, we establish the relationship between consensus step, SEC and estimation error covariance in dynamic and steady processes, respectively. Employing a space decomposition method, we show the error covariance in the constraint set can be arbitrarily small by setting a sufficiently large consensus step. Besides, we propose an extended collective observability (ECO) condition based on SEC, which is milder than existing observability conditions. Under the ECO condition, through utilizing a technique of matrix approximation, we prove the boundedness of error covariance and the exponentially asymptotic unbiasedness of state estimate, respectively. Moreover, under the ECO condition for linear time-invariant systems with SEC, we provide a novel event-triggered communication protocol by employing the consistency, and give an offline design principle of triggering thresholds with guaranteed boundedness of error covariance. More importantly, we quantify and analyze the communication rate for the proposed event-triggered distributed Kalman filter, and provide optimization based methods to obtain the minimal (maximal) successive non-triggering (triggering) times. Recent developments in data science in general and machine learning in particular have transformed the way experts envision the future of surgery. Surgical Data Science (SDS) is a new research field that aims to improve the quality of interventional healthcare through the capture, organization, analysis and modeling of data. While an increasing number of data-driven approaches and clinical applications have been studied in the fields of radiological and clinical data science, translational success stories are still lacking in surgery. In this publication, we shed light on the underlying reasons and provide a roadmap for future advances in the field. Based on an international workshop involving leading researchers in the field of SDS, we review current practice, key achievements and initiatives as well as available standards and tools for a number of topics relevant to the field, namely (1) infrastructure for data acquisition, storage and access in the presence of regulatory constraints, (2) data annotation and sharing and (3) data analytics. We further complement this technical perspective with (4) a review of currently available SDS products and the translational progress from academia and (5) a roadmap for faster clinical translation and exploitation of the full potential of SDS, based on an international multi-round Delphi process. © 2020, CC BY.

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a severe breast disease. It generates little symptom and may be neglected in prodromal stage. In this study, we developed a novel DCIS detection method based on breast thermography, which can provide earlier alert than other exams. We created a 40 breast-thermogram dataset. We used six statistical measures, and we used fractal dimension to describe the texture measure. The extreme learning machine was used as the classifier. Our developed system yielded a sensitivity of 93.0 ± 2.6%, a specificity of 92.5 ± 2.6%, and an accuracy of 92.8 ± 1.8%. The extreme learning machine was better than support vector machine, artificial neural network, decision tree, and weighted k-nearest neighbors. Fostering cooperation of selfish agents through public goods in relation to the loners

Altruistic behaviors in multiplayer groups have obtained great attention in the context of the public goods game, which poses a riddle from the evolutionary viewpoint. Here we focus on a particular type of public goods game model in which the benefits of cooperation are either discounted or synergistically enhanced at the appearance of multiple cooperators in a group. Moreover, we focus on the three-strategies profile by adding the role of loners, besides the often-used cooperation and defection. Using the replicator dynamic equations, we investigate a range of dynamical portraits that characterizes the properties of the steady state. Analysis results indicate that loners and cooperators both have chances to be the stable equilibrium points in the presence of perturbations, while defectors fail to do so in this three-strategy competition. Moreover, the coexistence state, in which all three strategies exist in equilibrium, can be led by suitable parameters and stabilized for perturbations. These results elucidate the interplay between the characteristics of the public goods game and evolutionary dynamics in well-mixed systems.
