There have been numerous calls for O&G companies to rethink the way they carry out capital projects. Various studies have highlighted that opportunities to enhance productivity exist from early development through to construction and handover to operations. Companies that are can realize these opportunities can complete projects safer and faster, reduce costs and quality issues, and improve schedule predictability. This paper presents data centric verification as a key enabler for such change, as it focusses on delivery of desired outcomes – the key to successful projects. This paper presents the rapid benefits that can be harvested, if the effort to put data centric verification in place is made. The following aspects are detailed to illustrate the benefits that are achievable: • The wide variety of checking and confirmation activities on projects that frequently overlap, happen too late or don't focus on the correct aspects can be streamlined through a unified verification approach. • Using a data centric approach to the set up and tracking of verification activities can support analytics to enable better planning and early identification of issues. • Traceability in the data centric approach will enable quicker identification of root causes and remediations. • Handover to operations moves from a document accumulation exercise to a data custody transfer. A typical O&G project is executed by a consortium of companies from owner/operators, engineering, procurement and construction companies, various suppliers and equipment manufacturers, etc. Data centric verification, if achieved, can only be through collaboration on a commonly agreed approach. © 2021, Offshore technology Conference. Objectives/Scope: This paper describes improvements to the methods for verification of process safety design requirements in an Oil & Gas (O&G) project and highlights the benefits of standardized verification linked to design requirements. The similarities and benefits of verification activities used in aerospace/ NASA projects are also discussed. Methods, Procedures, Process: The team identified and documented the activities that should be performed by a project throughout the project life cycle to verify compliance with process safety requirements. These verification activities were tied to existing project deliverables and controls where possible. Focusing on verification in the design stage (analyze, calculate, review) in preference to final execution (inspect, certify) enables earlier identification of problems, earlier intervention, and increases confidence that the process safety requirements have been met. While this approach may be new in the O&G industry, the aerospace community has used similar methods for decades. Verification within aerospace/NASA involves design phase verification and product (final) verification. Initial verification is done to show that: 1) the design is realizable, 2) requirements are acceptable and have bidirectional traceability to higher-level requirements and stakeholder expectations, and 3) the design solution is consistent with requirement statements and constraints. Conducting the initial verification through peer/design reviews improves compliance to requirements at the final product verification. By establishing the traceability during the initial verification, database links are established and then just need to be populated with the final verification reports for closure. shell has publicly stated a production target of 4 mboe/day by 2018. This will require the recruitment and development of a large number of technical staff both recent graduates as well as experienced professionals. Shortening time to autonomy and time to integration respectively is critical to success. Structured programs are industry proven vehicles to achieve this and to provide the assurance that staff are truly competent to do what they are required to do. In addition, competence driven development programs offer a clear performance and competence bar. This paper describes royal dutch shell's approach to developing this critical pipeline of technical professionals by outlining the necessary and sufficient conditions for success of the shell Graduate Programme, the Advanced Technical Programme and our approach to integrating Experienced Hires. The shell Graduate Programme is an integrated approach that combines formal learning, with on the job tasks, active involvement of technical coaches and line managers and standardized methods of competence assurance. Not only does this follow the 70/20/10 methodology of learning but also results in the expected "time to autonomy" for graduate joiners being reduced by 1 to 2 yrs as compared to other less comprehensive approaches. In addition to closing critical capability gaps in the business, this is also a clear component of the Employee Value Proposition as Generation Y graduates today look for faster and more structured progression when selecting their employer of choice. The Advanced Technical Programme which is aimed at staff exiting the shell Graduate Programme as well as experienced hires with only a few years relevant business experience, builds on the Graduate Programme and uses the same structures and principles. It focuses on developing technical professionals to make non standard, original technical decisions autonomously (and similarly follows the principles of blended learning combined with active involvement

This review presents a selection of recent publications related to the chemistry and catalysis of C1 molecules, including methane, methanol, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. These molecules play an important role in the current supply of energy and chemicals and will likely become even more relevant because of the need to decarbonize fuels (shift from coal to natural gas) in line with CO2 capture and use to mitigate global warming, as well as a gradual shift on the supply side from crude oil to natural gas. This review includes both recent industrial developments, such as the huge increase in methanol-to-olefins-capacity build in China and the demonstration of oxidative coupling of methane, and scientific developments in these chemistries facilitated by improved capabilities in, for example, analytical tools and computational modeling.
