One major element in Concurrent Design is the central data model. It allows the various disciplines to share the latest information and to make immediate use of them within their domain specific tools and models. As a successor of the Integrated Design Model, in 2014 the European Space Agency (ESA) released the Open Concurrent Design Tool (OCDT), which aims to be the reference and standard model for European entities performing space system studies during early as well as later phases. This tool, including its web-based server and user interface supporting elements (such as MS Excel Add-ins), is developed in a way that it is not only limited to space system and mission design, but can be used also in other fields such as System-of-systems (SoS) architecture definition and evaluation, which is becoming an emerging topic for European and international collaborations. Instead of just looking at the technical aspects of a system, SoS-studies provide an opportunity to analyze how to share resources and assets amongst institutions, organizations or nations more efficiently and how to provide integrated and more advanced services. However, due to the different nature and rules of SoS, the OCDT requires certain adaptations regarding domain specific tool interfaces, dedicated data libraries, as well as a SoS-specific data flow and representations to the users. Several studies were performed on ESA’s side in advance, to prepare an initial set of requirements for such an evolution of the tools and processes which eventually led to a project called "Development and Validation of a Generic systems‐of‐systems Concurrent Engineering Model (CESoS)". It has been established by ESA and awarded to a consortium which has experience in Concurrent Design, software development and system architecture definitions. © 2015, American institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Sharing research data is becoming increasingly important as it enables peers to validate and reproduce data driven experiments. Also exchanging data allows scientists to reuse data in different contexts and gather new knowledge from available sources. But with increasing volume of data, researchers need to reference exact versions of datasets. Until now access to research data often based on single archives of data files where versioning and subsetting support is limited. In this paper we introduce a mechanism that allows researchers to create versioned subsets of research data which can be cited and shared in a lightweight manner. We demonstrate a prototype that supports researchers in creating subsets based on filtering and sorting source data. These subsets can be cited for later reference and reuse. The system produces evidence that allows users to verify the correctness and completeness of a subset based on cryptographic hashing. We describe a replication scenario for enabling scalable data citation in dynamic contexts.

In recent years, enterprises and emergency response teams have started to use user-generated content to monitor crises, events and trends. Especially in critical situations, decision makers must, above all, quickly assess huge amounts of data. E?ective geographical visualization and aggregation of collected data is an important prerequisite to enable decision makers to infer the impact of a detected event on, for example, their supply chains and other physical establishments. However, in existing literature the aspect of geographical visualization of automatically analysed events is hardly addressed. In this paper, we propose to introduce hierarchical levels of detail, a concept from Geographic Information systems, for the visualization of user-generated data describing a local event. We developed a tool which can improve the assessment of regional impacts by o?ering the possibility to browse and visualize results on layers aggregating data along individually defined hierarchical dimensions, e.g. geographical or political districts.

The citation count is an important factor to estimate the relevance and significance of academic publications. However, it is not possible to use this measure for papers which are too new. A solution to this problem is to estimate the future citation counts. There are existing works, which point out that graph mining techniques lead to the best results. We aim at improving the prediction of future citation counts by introducing a new feature. This feature is based on frequent graph pattern mining in the so-called citation network constructed on the basis of a dataset of scientific publications. Our new feature improves the accuracy of citation count prediction, and outperforms the state-of-the-art features in many cases which we show with experiments on two real datasets. © 2014 Springer International Publishing Switzerland.

An emerging line of research that attempts to reveal underlying mechanisms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) studies differences in sensory processing in individuals with ASD. In this paper, we introduce new methods to measure proprioceptive functions of children with ASD. The instruments use a low-cost Arduino board and shield to acquire data from force and touch sensors. Data are transferred to mobile devices and analyzed with cross-platform application development tools. The instruments were pilot tested with typically developing children to test for functionality and usability of the instruments. They will be used in a larger study with children with ASD.

E-marketplaces on the World Wide Web are information and transaction silos, which in the general case don't allow transactions across their boundaries. The consequence is that the Web, often termed the global marketplace, is fragmented along the dimensions of geography, content domain, supply or demand, user base, and many more. This fragmentation makes it inefficient to buy and sell commodities on the Web. We propose a framework that serves as a foundation for a distributed, de-centralized e-marketplace on top of the Web, making boundaries between existing systems disappear from the user's perspective. The framework standardizes the creation and description of objects that represent supply and demand. In addition to this, it allows for independent matching services to connect objects suitable for a transaction and it defines protocols for the message exchange between such objects.

The detection of a specific social event requires for high semantic understanding in the interpretation of particular event characteristics such as its type and location. In many cases, photos capturing different events at the same (or highly similar) locations can hardly be distinguished by each other. Available metadata can provide assistance where there is no expert knowledge at hand. However, metadata often lack completeness and reliability. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of a fully automated approach for the detection of specific social events. In comparison to related approaches, we do not incorporate query-specific processing and we perform no manual adaptation of the input query. The resulting approach is applicable to arbitrary event types. © 2013 ACM.

Size of retrieved data versus crawling time formulate a well-known dilemma in the structured Web crawling community. The real challenge within this dilemma is to optimize the settings of a given wrapper to obtain maximum available data in shortest possible time. In this paper, we try to tune these settings, by introducing a threaded algorithm that guarantees accessing all available detail pages within crawling scope;and using this algorithm, we try to reduce the time consumed by the crawler, via simple adjustments of sleeping time after each detail page visit. © 2013 ACM.
