The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) provides a conceptual approach, named the Core Components Technical Specification (CCTS), for creating business document models. These business document models are essential for defining service interfaces of service-oriented systems and are typically stored in a registry for enabling easy storage, search, and retrieval of these artifacts. However, in such a highly dynamic environment with ever-changing market demands, business partners are confronted with the need to constantly adapt their systems. This implies revising conceptual business document models as well as adapting the corresponding service interface definitions resulting in a tedious and often error-prone task when done manually. In this paper, we present a framework for dealing with these types of evolution in service-oriented systems. Having such a framework at hand, supports business partners in coping with the evolution of business document models, as well as in adapting the corresponding service interface definitions automatically. Furthermore, we present a prototypical implementation and an evaluation of the framework proposed.

Frequently, ontologies based on the same domain are similar but also have many differences, which are known as heterogeneity. The alignment of entities which are not meant to be used in the same context, or which follow different modeling conventions, may cause mismatch in ontology alignment. End-users would benefit from knowing the risk level of mismatch between ontologies prior to starting a time- and cost-intensive procedure. With our heuristic-based method align++ we propose to consider the general application context of a modeled domain (the modeling context) in order to enhance the user support in schema-based alignment. In the method's first part, ontology concepts are enriched with weighting meta-information, resulting from two indicators: importance weighting indicator and importance outdegree indicator. These indicators contain model- and graph-based information and can be observed and measured at the schema level of an ontology. The output of the first part are ranking lists of importance indicators for each ontology concept in the role of a domain class. In the second part, the candidate sample for our mismatch-risk model bases on external user input by manually identifying concepts between the lists of each source ontology. The heterogeneity risk among the concepts' importance indicator values is measured as standard deviation over the candidate sample. Afterwards these measured values are aggregated, and a heterogeneity coefficient is calculated. On the basis of this risk factor the mismatch-at-risk (MaR) between ontologies can be approximated as a threshold for schema-based ontology alignment.

Exchanging structured business documents is inevitable for successful collaboration in electronic commerce. A prerequisite, for fostering the interoperability between business partners utilizing different business document standards, is a mapping between different standards. However, the effort involved in creating those mappings is hard to estimate. For example, the complexity of standardized formats is one crucial aspect affecting the effort of the mapping process. Therefore, a notion of complexity is desirable for both, manual as well as automatic mapping processes. For this reason we develop an initial set of metrics, based on well established metrics for XML Schema, allowing to analyze the complexity of business document standards. Having such metrics at hand allows estimating the complexity and hence the mapping effort of a business document standard, prior to the actual mapping process. We demonstrate the complexity metrics on three different business document standards from the electronic commerce domain.

Business documents exchanged in a service-oriented context play a crucial role in the definition of service interfaces. Only if both partners have a common agreement on the data exchanged, automated business interactions are possible. The United Nations Center for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) provides a reliable and interoperable solution for conceptual business document definitions with UN/CEFACT's Core Components Technical Specification. However, document definitions aren't available in a centralized manner to all interested business partners. In order to allow for an easy search and retrieval of core component business document definitions, a registry is needed. Business partners may retrieve service interface definitions from the registry and adapt their software accordingly in order to engage in automated business interactions. We specify a registry meta model on top of ebRIM, registering core component artifacts and defining their interdependencies. ©2009 IEEE.

The AAAI-10 workshop program was held on July 11-12, 2010, at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia. The workshop program included 13 workshops covering a wide range of topics in artificial intelligence. There were several presentations on particular formalisms for combining the levels of planning from the perspectives of classical planning, motion planning, POMDPs, search-based planning, and temporal logic-based constraints. Henry Lieberman from Massachusetts institute of technology Media Laboratory presented work developing a platform for knowledge acquisition and usage from expert users, built upon experience with eliciting information from nonexperts in a collaborative manner. The objective of the AAAI Workshop on Goal-Directed Autonomy (GDA) was to encourage discussion and novel contributions on intelligent agents that can self-select their goals. Jeremy Baxter from QinetiQ focused on user interaction, while Nick Hawes described a goal-directed reasoning framework for controlling a mobile robot.

We propose an algorithm that simultaneously extracts disparities and alpha matting information given a stereo image pair. Our method divides the reference image into a set of overlapping, partially transparent color segments. Each segment pixel is assigned an alpha value and color. The disparity inside the segment is modeled via a plane. The goodness of alphas, colors and disparity planes is measured by a new energy function. Its basic idea is to use the three parameters for generating artificial views representing the left and right images. If alphas, colors and disparity planes are correct, these artificial images should be very similar to the real ones. For generating the artificial right view, we warp all pixels of the left into the geometry of the right image using the disparity planes. We introduce the assumption of constant solidity in order to correctly model how pixels' alpha values are affected by the warping operation. Experimental results on the Middlebury set show that our algorithm gives good results in comparison to the state-of-the-art in stereo matching.

Sharing data within grid environments always results in losing control over data usage. If the shared information is medical data, this violates laws as specified in HIPAA, because access to such data must be reconstructible and needs to be tightly controlled. To comply with these regulations it must be guaranteed, that each data access and modification is recorded to produce audit trails. The provided solution introduces a new concept for virtual grid computing environments consisting of secure virtual machines, hosting data and indemnifying thorough audit trails by logging every data interaction, solving the problem of traceability and side-access.

Cloud computing allows delivering information technology power on demand. Be it either the hosting of a certain Web application or the outsourcing of an entire server or data center by means of virtualization. Applying these techniques however goes along with handing over the ultimate control of data to a third party. This paper investigates the application of Nimbus as a cloud resource and shows an example implementation for retaining data control to the user based on virtual machine images encrypted on the client side. This means that the procedures involved for verifying validity and accessing the virtual machine have to be entirely provided by the user. We provide a sample implementation of a secure virtual machine consisting of an encrypted partition, containing the data to be hosted, and a boot system, containing the logic to verify and access the encrypted partition. Further details of the implementation are described and applied on a cloud resource available within the AustrianGrid project. The methods presented in this paper form the basis for subsequent research on single point of access grid resp. cloud resources. The results will be applied in the AustrianGrid Phase 2 research project "Grid-supported Breath Gas Analysis of Molecular Oriented Diseases".
