A landslide occurs when a mass of rock, debris, or earth slides down a slope under the influence of gravity. In the current study, Kootickal of Kottayam district has been selected where landslides and heavy floods occurred in 2021 due to a torrential downpour triggered by the formation of a low depression zone in the Arabian Sea. In the current study, an analysis was performed using two different software packages (GeoStudio and Plaxis 2D), and stability characteristics were observed. Each software implements standards and partial factors differently and is used worldwide, so a comparison is necessary. The present study also discusses an analysis of software results and mitigation methods for reducing landslides. In order to determine whether a slope is stable against sliding, it is necessary to compare the software's output factor of safety with standards. Based on the analysis, the slope failed due to a reduction in the shear strength parameter of the soil due to water infiltration. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Last decade has witnessed revolutionary changes in the field of Information technology Health Care. The digitization of healthcare data has enabled the effective storage, retrieval and sharing of medical information of the patients. It simplifies the tedious paper work involved in traditional data storage approaches providing cost effective and better health assistance. Given the sensitivity of medical information, it must be handled with the utmost care while maintaining confidentiality and privacy. Organ donation and transplant process is the most complicated area of health sector. There are several factors like scarcity of organs, lack of awareness among public, complexities involved in organ removal and implantation processes and black marketing that makes it challenging. To enable more transplants before patients on the organ waiting list pass away, an upsurge in the number of donors, handled by a more secure and accountable platform, is required. Blockchain with its distributed ledger technology offers a wider canvas for organ matching, breaking the regional barriers, with international waiting list databases. The security and immutability features of blockchain can ensure the privacy of the patients and reduces black market organ donations. This paper reviews the role that can be played by blockchain in improvising the existing organ transplantation procedure. Different systems implemented using blockchain technology are analyzed, highlighting their unique features. © 2023 IEEE.

Enhancing Sustainability and Performance of 3D Printing Mortar with Alccofine 1203, GGBS, and Kaolin: Experimental Investigation and Mechanical Characterization

The construction industry is currently dealing with various challenges like inefficient labor, frequent crises at building sites, and complexities in managing construction processes. 3D printing concrete (3DPC) offers the potential to greatly enhance speed, safety, efficiency, performance, and sustainability in concrete construction. It could significantly impact the future of global building economics. This paper presents the development and experimental results on the usability of 3D printing mortar (3DPM) by incorporating alccofine 1203, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and kaolin. Four replacement ratios of Portland cement by alccofine (10–50%) and GGBS (30–40%) were investigated to examine the fresh and hardened behavior as well as microstructure of the newly developed 3DPM. A suitable mortar mix was developed experimentally containing 30% GGBS and 20% alccofine 1203 as partial replacement of cement, meeting the target mean strength. The study demonstrated that the developed mortar exhibited satisfactory printing properties in fresh state as well as mechanical properties in hardened state. The incorporation of an optimal alccofine 1203 dosage resulted in a noticeable increase in the compressive strength. The obtained capillary suction capability, indicates a reduced water absorption rate. Due to the incorporation of alccofine 1203 and GGBS the porosity decreased and mortar quality improved. In addition, the use of alccofine 1203 and kaolin greatly enhanced the transport properties of the mortar mix. The study also confirmed decreased pore anisotropy due to the presence of kaolin as a filler material in the mix. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Shiraz University 2024.

In medical imaging, diagnostic accuracy depends on clear images, which are frequently damaged by noise. To address this researchers have developed a number of noise reduction techniques, each with unique benefits and limitations. The effectiveness of NLM (Non-Local Means) denoising in medical images at various noise levels is comprehensively examined in this work. The goal is to understand how key parameters patch size, window size, and smoothing parameter (h) interact under different noise conditions. MSE (Mean Square Error), PSNR (Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio), and SSIM (Structural Similarity Index) metrics are applied in performance evaluation to provide quantitative insights into the efficiency of denoising and structural preservation. Experiments are conducted using a diverse dataset that includes MRI (Magnetic Resonance Images) and CT (Computed Tomography). Throughout the study, consistent patch sizes of 3 and 5, along with a window size of 11 and 15, are used to explore the role of the smoothing parameter for different noise levels and assess denoising efficacy at various noise intensities. This study contributes to understanding the potential of NLM denoising in improving image quality under varying noise situations, emphasizing the significance of deliberate filter parameter selection over random choices for improved denoising in both objective and subjective approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

A slope is an exposed ground surface that stands at an angle with horizontal. Slope stability refers to the condition of the inclined soil mass to withstand undergo movement. Slope stability analysis is very important. Slope stability is determined by factor of safety which expresses how much stronger a system is than it needs to be for an intended load. In this work, stability analysis of slope at Karikode in Ernakulam District is done. Reinforcement is added to improve stability of slope. In this case, anchor and pile are provided to improve slope stability. The effect of spacing and angle of inclination of both anchor and pile is studied. The analysis is done using Geostudio software. Limit equilibrium method is used here. The removal of noise from images while retaining their quality and information is a crucial task in the field of image processing, and is commonly known as image denoising. As the use of digital images has become increasingly widespread in various fields, including medical imaging, astronomy, and microscopy, the problem of image noise has become more prominent. Image noise, which is any unwanted variation in brightness or color in an image, can significantly reduce the image quality and usefulness. To address this issue, various noise reduction techniques have been developed, such as filtering, wavelet denoising, and deep learning-based methods. However, selecting the appropriate denoising method for a specific type of noise and image can be challenging, and objective performance metrics are required to evaluate the effectiveness of different methods. Therefore, a thorough analysis of the various kinds of noise that can appear in digital images, the denoising techniques that are available, and the performance metrics that are used to assess them, is required. The goal of this review is to shed light on the importance of selecting the best denoising technique for the particular application at hand. This review will help researchers and practitioners choose the best denoising technique for their specific application by illuminating the benefits and drawbacks of various techniques. © 2023 IEEE.

By enhancing the efficiency and throughput of FIR filters, significant improvements can be made in many digital signal processing applications across various domains, ranging from telecommunications and audio processing to biomedical signal analysis and beyond. This paper proposes an 8-bit FIR filter which leverages the capabilities of DSP48E2 elements within Xilinx UltraScale FPGA devices to achieve superior performance in terms of throughput and maximum clock frequency. The proposed filter was designed and implemented on a Kintex UltraScale+ XCKU3P FPGA using Xilinx Vivado 2018.3. The input and output data were streamed in and out using AXI4S streaming protocol and the design was verified using cocotb framework. Finally, the performance metrics such as resource utilization and maximum clock frequency were studied. The comparative analysis showed a remarkable efficiency improvement in the proposed FIR filter, with only half the number of DSP elements required for a given number of operations, coupled with a 1.5 x enhancement in maximum clock frequency compared to conventional FIR filters. © 2024 IEEE.

Social assistive robots enhance social interaction and well-being by providing companionship and support. Emotional Intelligence in these robots refers to their ability to identify, understand, and respond to human emotions. This study investigates how well a social robot named 'EIROB' can engage elderly persons by using Artificial Emotional Intelligence. EIROB employs a Multimodal Emotion Recognition Algorithm and a Multimodal Emotion Expression System to detect the user's emotional state and generate appropriate responses through an effective dialogue manager. Interaction with EIROB is facilitated by an Android app, which uses the mobile phone's inbuilt camera and microphone for facial expression and speech sentiment detection. The captured data is processed in the cloud that enables the model to be deployed remotely. This study aims to create an empathetic interaction model for senior citizens particularly during pandemics like COVID-19 to prevent feelings of isolation. The performance of the emotion recognition models is evaluated via accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score to ensure the effectiveness of the system in recognizing and responding to user's emotional states. © 2024 IEEE.

The Trans-Domain Sea-Air Robot (TSAR) design with trans-domain capabilities or converting a normal drone to hybrid technology. It is still a major challenge to achieve miniaturization and enhance the maneuverability and overwater reliability of transmission. Trans-Domain robot is proposed in this work which achieves free trans-domain motion and has the advantages of small size, high maneuverability and high reliability for autonomous water vehicle operation. The proposed has a dc motor-propellers platform which satisfies the power and small diameter requirements and the blades reduce water drag and facilitate transportation. Further, a stable and efficient trans-domain attitude adjustment system is presented which effectively realizes trans-domain attitude switching. Based on the characteristics of the body additional ES32 with a camera was been given in order to image processing for human body detection and fish shoal localization. The Sea-Air Integrated Robot is a conceptual design for a multi-purpose robotic system that can operate both on land and water. The robot is designed to be a versatile platform that can perform a wide range of tasks, from surveillance and inspection to scientific research and rescue operation. The TSAR has many potential applications, including environmental monitoring, oil and gas exploration, search and rescue operations, and military surveillance. Its modular design and ability to operate in multiple environments make it a versatile platform that can be adapted to a wide range of tasks. © 2023 IEEE.

Advanced high performance light weight composite materials have been highly demanded due to rapidly progressing technical activities in aerospace, transportation and automobile over the past three decades. This study focuses on the synthesis and wear features of Al6066-B4C composites. The Al6066-B4C composites are manufactured by employing stir casting technique with the varying percentage of Boron carbide i.e. from 3 to 12% in increments of 3%. Al6066-B4C particulate composites are analyzed for microstructure study, hardness, and wear properties. The distribution of B4C particles is found to be even within the Al6066 matrix from the microstructure study of Al6066-B4C composites. The hardness of the composite has increased from 0 to 9%, with a 37.08% increase. The wear rate as well as COF of the Al6066-B4C composite declined from 0 to 9% as the amount of B4C weight fraction increased. It reduces wear rate by 38.07%. This has led to a decrement of 21.21% in the COF. In addition, wear rate as well as COF enhances with the applied load. The developed composites are used in automotive applications. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2025.
