To further enhance emergency management skills of an organisation's emergency response personnel, emergency response training, especially 3D emergency drill, is currently becoming more and more important in the petrochemical sector. So, a novel 3D emergency drills system is designed and developed based on ACP approach, which can be used for mocking emergency response plan drills and evaluating the plan. A case study reveals that the performance of the system is good and the system can meet the needs of emergency response training and optimizing emergency response plan in petrochemical plants.

For spectators and public transport demand during the 16th Asian Games and the first Asian Para Games held in Guangzhou in 2010, Aided Decision-Making System of Public Transportation management for Guangzhou Asian Games had been developed to support public transport management decision. It can help public transport managers to enhance the level of public transport management from experience-based formulation and manual implementation to scientific computation-based formulation and automatic implementation by intelligent systems, to guarantee the traffic demand effectively during the games, and to improve the management of public transportation significantly.

Learning control of dynamical systems based on Markov decision processes (MDPs) is an interdisciplinary research area of machine learning, control theory, and operations research. The main objective in this research area is to realize data-driven multi-stage optimal control for complex or uncertain dynamical systems. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on the theory, algorithms, and applications of MDP-based learning control of dynamical systems. Emphases are put on recent advances in the theory and methods of reinforcement learning (RL) and adaptive/approximate dynamic programming (ADP), including temporal-difference learning theory, value function approximation for continuous state and action spaces, direct policy search, approximate policy iteration, and adaptive critic designs. This issue marks the beginning of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning systems (TNNLS). By adding «Learning systems» to the title, we now state explicitly the scope of the TRANSACTIONS to include neural networks as well as related learning systems. This issue marks a new era in the history of our TRANSACTIONS. The TRANSACTIONS is now ready to face the challenges of the next 10-20 years. With the evolution of the fields of neural networks in particular and computational intelligence in general, the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning systems will continue to grow and to succeed in this ever-changing world. Also included are a few comments about the review process of TNN manuscripts and the introduction of 14 new TNNLS Associate Editors. © 2012 IEEE.

Calibration of a functional structural plant model is a challenging task because of the complexity of model structure. Parameter estimation through gradient-based optimization technique was highly dependent on initial parameter values. This motivated the use of global sensitivity analysis technique to choose parameter subset in fitting the data sequence. Global sensitivity indices were computed using the source sink ratio as the output of interest, which regulates all organ growth. By fitting on chrysanthemum data from nine sampling dates, it is shown that sensitivity analysts method helps to identify the influential parameters for a given sampling date. As a result, fitting process is less dependent on the initial parameter values. Current work provides a new method of calibrating a plant growth model with multiple outputs.

Internet as the fertile ground of free speech, everyone can express their emotions, cognition and views of things via the internet, especially in the era of Web2.0, the occurrence of blog which provides a wider space for personal speech. Internet provides a broad platform for contemporary college students to express thought and emotion, at the same time it provides a channel for education workers to understand students' thought and mental. Through real-time monitoring information on school area network, we can get real-time status, mood and some dynamic data which can portray characteristics of emotion of the concerned entity; also we can abstract the characterization of psychological crisis information, and use this feature to do data mining on these data. In this way we can find group of students which have tendency of psychological CriSIS, and use corresponding psychological crisis intervention online and offline methods to ease students' psychological crisis and to prevent tragic events in timely.

With the fast development of Internet and its data scale, B2B (Business to Business), whose speed and high availability advantage is based on Internet, is eroding more and more market share of traditional business. In recent years, the new data processing technologies, such as cloud computing, assure the enhancement of computer's computing capacity; it has become possible for researchers to process and analyze the massive business data, including large scale customer data, and large scale commodity information. A new B2B platform frame, based on cloud computing with less running time and better response efficiency, is proposed here to promote transaction handle efficiency. By adoption of complex network theory and cloud computing technology, the new platform has been evaluated to decrease transaction handle time, and make more benefits.

Multiple-target tracking in complex scenes is one of the most complicated problems in computer vision. Handling the occlusion between objects is the key issue in multiple target tracking. This paper presents an occlusion segmentation-based method to track multiple people in complex situations which are captured by static monocular cameras. In the proposed method, we calculate the probabilistic histogram of each object's optical flow vector, then use this motion statistic information along with the color and appearance information to construct a new expression of pixel distance. Finally, a stepwise classification and K-means clustering method are taken advantages of to accomplish occlusion segmentation. Object tracking is handled by a particle filter-based tracking framework, and a probabilistic appearance model is used to find the best particle. Experiments are conducted using public challenging data set PETS 2009. Results show that our approach can improve the performance of the existing tracking approach and handle dynamic occlusions better. © 2011 IEEE.

Chemical industry is complex and continuous process industry, and the control and management of the long-term safe operation involves a great deal of information and data on the staffs, management, equipment and technology. Consequently, making real-time assessment for the control and management by computational experiment is important for the long-term of safety operation of chemical industry. As the requirement for high-performance computing in large-scale complex systems, traditional CPU computing can not meet the needs of large-scale computing. Because of the high speed and rapid development features, GPU was widely applied to scientific computation, which is suitable for large-scale intensive computation. This paper carried on specific computation experiments using GPU parallel computing, and designed and analyzed matrix inversion, fuzzy logic computation and Monte Carlo computation respectively for staff management and equipment simulation. Finally, compared to CPU serial computing, the maximum speedup ratio, 34, 85 and 39 times of speedup ratio are achieved. © 2011 IEEE.

It is important for a chemical plant to find a suitable performance appraisal method. In this paper, based on the ACP (artificial system, computational experiment, and parallel execution) theory and the PageRank algorithm, a new performance appraisal method is proposed. The proposed method comprehensively involves both peoples and routine management rules from the holistic viewpoint. By comparison with the traditional performance appraisal method, the proposed method is more reasonable, more flexible and robuster. © 2011 IEEE.
