A system for the phase concentration measurement of biomass/pulverized coal/air threephase flow based on electrostatic sensor and capacitive sensor data fusion in pneumatic conveying fuel system at power stations is developed. Because electrostatic sensor is more sensitive to dilute pulverized coal, while capacitive sensor to biomass, they are used in the measurement of biomass concentration and pulverized coal concentration in biomass/pulverized coal/air threephase flow. flow regimes are identified by HHT of the electrostatic sensor output signal. Under the certain flow regime identified, the dual regression analysis method is applied to work out the biomass concentration and the pulverized coal concentration. The experiment result indicates that the system has high linearity up to 5%. © 2010, International Society for Industrial Process Tomography. All rights reserved.

Synthesis of AgI/Bi2MoO6 nano-heterostructure with enhanced visible-light photocatalytic property

A novel nano-heterostructure of Ag I/Bi2MoO6photocatalyst was successfully synthesized via a facile depositionprecipitation method. The samples were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectra. While sole Bi2MoO6or Ag I showed poor activity toward photocatalytic rhodamine B degradation, the nano-heterostructure was found with superior performance. The AgI/Bi2MoO6composite with an optimal content of 20 wt% Ag I exhibited the highest photocatalytic degradation rate. Rhodamine B was totally degraded within 75 min visible-light irradiation. Moreover, the hybrid photocatalyst also showed a fairly good stability for several-cycle reuse. This study indicates that the AgI/Bi2MoO6nano-heterostructure can be used as an effective candidate for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

Rice husk, a type of biomass fuel, is rich in amorphous silica. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a fast-responding non-contact detection method which can realize on-line detection of rice ash components. This paper aims to explore the optimum working conditions of LIBS and extend the compatibility of LIBS technology. The paper uses the sample motion state simulation system to simulate ash, so that the particles can be laser-induced breakdown during the vertical drop and horizontal motion, and then the effect of particle flow state on the stability of the LIBS detection signal can be determined. In addition, the paper compares the effects of two laser pulse widths on the stability of LIBS detection signal by using a 1 ns pulse width laser and a 6 ns pulse width laser to improve the detection error. Experimental studies have found that long pulse width laser provides better stability of spectrum, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) of the detection result is smaller than that of short pulse width laser, and the RSD is smaller in the state of horizontally transferring samples, which can obtain the spectral signal with stronger line intensity. Based on the PINN neural network for the study of turbulence, it can solve the nonlinear equations without grid, which is different from the CFD method. This paper mainly uses the PINN method to study the temporal and spatial prediction of the turbulent boundary layer flow field, and in the absence of label values, based on the known flow field information, the unknown information is reasonably predicted by solving the N-S equation. The comparison of PINN prediction results with numerical simulation and experimental results verifies the feasibility of applying PINN to the study of turbulent boundary layer. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

An experimental study of on-line measurement of water fraction in gas-oil-water three-phase flow

Gas-oil-water two-or three-phase flow is widely encountered in industry, such as petroleum chemical industry, bio-chemicals, food chemicals, and mineral engineering and energy projects. Two kinds of on-line measurement technique, which are double-ring conductance sensor and double-helical capacitance sensor, for water fraction in oil-water two-phase flow and gas-oil-water three-phase flow were developed in this paper. The calibration results shows that the responses of the two sensors are good enough as the variation of water fraction. And on the other hand, it is possible that the oil and the gas regard as one phase in gas-oil-water three-phase flow by using double-helical capacitance sensor, and the ratio between water and gas has no effect with the output signal. The range of water fraction which can be measured becomes bigger and bigger because of the using of new circuit. So the capacitance sensor is better enough to measure water fraction in the three phases flow. During dynamic experiment, because of phase inversion phenomenon between oil and water, the conductance sensor outputs poorly, however the capacitance sensor performs somewhat fine. The reason for the error using capacitance sensor is the edge effect of the capacitance. The experiment results show that the edge effect of the double-helical capacitance sensor causes that the output is smaller so that the measuring water fraction is a litter larger than the actual value. And when the variation of water fraction is above 10%, the edge effect of capacitance sensor can be almost neglected. On the contrary, when the variation of water fraction is below 10%, the edge effect is so lager than the results above that it cannot be ignored. Consequently, the double-helical capacitance probe is more suitable for measuring water fraction in slug flow and oil-water emulsion, in which the results agree better with static calibration than that in bubble flow.

Capturing CO2 from the flue gas of a power plant based on chemical absorption method is an effective way to cut down the emission of CO2. However, the principal components in the solvent are very difficult to be measured online. Therefore an online measurement and control system was designed for the process of capturing CO2 by MEA chemical absorption. The feature selection was done according to Bayesian networks. Furthermore based on the principle of a new sparse support vector machine (SLS-SVM), the measurement of ionic species distribution in the absorption solution was predicted, and the results agreed well with the data obtained by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) measurement. The mean square error is 3.8645×10-7. The measurement of solution species distribution was carried out online by using infrared sensors and NMR technology. Meanwhile the sampling system and NMR unit were linked for the online analysis based on variable-temperature and variable-pressure NMR technology. Finally a measurement and control platform was constructed based on VI technology. It shows that the performance of traditional equipment can be improved by the novel system, which will provide a more effective method for CO2 capture process. © 2010 IEEE.

In spray cooling system, the liquid coolant is broken into numerous fine droplets through a spray nozzle to cool the target. The liquid nitrogen spray could obtain low cooling temperature and excellent heat transfer performance with phase change in a large temperature difference. It can be widely used in low temperature tunnel cooling, ground simulation environment and laser therapy. The open loop liquid nitrogen spray platform is built to investigate the nitrogen spray characteristics. The solid cone vortex nozzle WL32 (3.18 mm diameter) and fine fog nozzle P66 (1.68 mm diameter) are used in the experiment. The spray pressure differences (0.25MPa to 0.8MPa) are sourced by the high pressure room temperature gas nitrogen and controlled through a manual valve. In the experiment, the spray field is recorded by a high speed camera (HG-100K from Redlake Co.) and the diameter of the spray droplet from WL32 is analyzed through the Malvern Spraytec laser particle size analyzer. The pressure difference between nozzle inlet and outlet has different influence on the spray angle of WL32 and P66. The quantity of spray droplets of WL32 increases with the increasing pressure, which leads to the improvement of the atomizing effect and the decline of Sauter Mean Diameter.

A new tandem double-capillary tube refrigeration system for refrigerator-freezers is proposed. A capillary tube was added between the two evaporators in the fresh and frozen food storage chests to raise the evaporation temperature of the refrigerating chamber, and reduce the heat exchange temperature difference and the available energy loss. Peng-Robinson (P-R) equation of state was adopted to calculate the thermodynamic properties of the refrigerants, and the available energy analysis of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle was programmed to calculate the thermodynamic performances of the new and the conventional refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer. The calculation results show that the available energy efficiency of the conventional refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer is 21.20% and 20.57%, respectively when the refrigerant is R12 and R134a, while that of the double-capillary tube refrigeration cycle of the refrigerator-freezer is 23.97% and 23.44%, respectively. By comparison, the available energy efficiency of the new refrigeration system increases by 13.07% and 13.95%, respectively. © 2008 Higher Education Press and Springer-Verlag.

Hydrogen production by biomass gasification in supercriticor subcritical water with Raney-Ni and other catalysts

Gasification of peanut shell, sawdust and straw in supercritical or subcritical water has been studied in a batch reactor with the presence of a series of Raney-Ni and its mixture with ZnCl2 or Ca(OH)2. The main gas products were hydrogen, methane, carbon dioxide, and a small amount of carbon monoxide. Different types of Raney-Ni, containing different metal components such as Fe, Mo or Cr, have different influences on the gasification yield and hydrogen selectivity. The catalysis effect can be improved obviously by adding ZnCl2 or Ca(OH)2 Increasing the reaction temperature or adding ZnCl2 and Ca(OH)2 could improve the mass of H2 in gas products and reduce the mass of CH4 and CO2 at the same time. The possible mechanism is that ZnCl2 can decompose the biomass particle by accelerating cellulose hydrolyzation in high-temperature water, increasing more specific surface to admit catalysts, while Ca(OH)2 can absorb CO2 to produce CaCO3 deposit, which can drop out from the reactant system, and which will drive the reaction to get more hydrogen. With respect to the biomass conversion to gas product and selectivity of H2 at low temperature, the series of Raney-Ni has shown many advantages over other catalysts; thus, this kind of catalyst has great potential to be utilized in the hydrogen industry for the gasification of biomass.

A closed loop spray cooling system with R134 - A as spray medium was used to investigate the performance of spray cooling characteristic. The heat transfer parameters such as heat flux, heat transfer coefficient and target surface temperature were studied under different volumetric flow rate and spray chamber pressure. The single-phase heat transfer region and the phase-change heat transfer region were analyzed at different heat fluxes. The results show that the heat flux, critical heat flux (CHF) and heat transfer coefficient directly relate with volumetric flow rate. The higher flow rate and spray chamber pressure could achieve higher CHF with better heat transfer performance. And the different relationship between heat transfer coefficient and surface temperature was obtained at different spray cooling period.
