An improved meshless numerical method (MPS-MAFL) is utilized to simulate single Taylor bubble rising in liquid LBE to study its hydrodynamic characteristics. The computational region is a circular tube in which the liquid is described using discretized particles by un-uniform grid scheme. The gas-liquid interface was approximately treated as a free surface boundary and nonslip conditions are applied on tube wall. Several simulation results and corresponding analysis including Taylor bubble propagation procedure, pressure distribution, velocity profile around bubble nose and in the wake region as well as in the falling film are presented. Some experimental results and CFD numerical simulations from other previous researchers are compared with the present study as validation. The simulation results agree well with both theoretical analysis and experimental results, which demonstrate the reasonable selection of model as well as the accuracy and reliability of moving particle method.

A simple line interface calculation-volume of fluid(SLIC-VOF) interface reconstruction technology was developed on the basis of the triangular unstructured grid. For a cell containing the interface, a straight line segment parallel with one side of the triangle cell was set on the interface according to the volume fractions in the three neighbor cells. The volume flux of the fluid with the assigned phase was determined by the geometry relation between the interface line and the volume flux on each side. Three tests were performed to verify the feasibility of the present unstructured SLIC-VOF interface reconstruction method, including an advection test of a right-angled triangle, the Zalesak slotted disk rotation test, and a single-vortex shearing flow test. The results show that the accuracy of the present method for the unstructured grid with 7600 cells is comparative with that of the conventional SLIC-VOF method for the structured grid with 6400 cells after the interface restoration in the reversed velocity field.

The rheological properties of CTAC/NaSal aqueous solutions (NaSal had same molarity with CTAC.) with different concentrations were experimentally investigated at different temperatures ranging from 10°C to 70°C and different shear rates from 1 s-1 to 300 s-1. There were a critical shear rate and a critical temperature for all measured surfactant aqueous solutions with mass concentrations ranging from 0.001% to 0.015%. The effects of temperature and shearing on viscosity properties of surfactant solution varied with the concentration. Rheological characteristics of viscosity showed complex variations under the combined effects of temperatures and shearing even for the solutions with same concentration. Surfactant solution with relatively high concentration thickened for the second time when suffering from strong shearing and high temperature.

The scale inhibition and removal processes by electronic water treatment were investigated in this study. The results show that the treatment of scale inhibition with 7.0V can be used first for the water with the hardness over 300 mgL-1(CaCO3), and then the treatment of scale removal with 5.0V can be applied when the water hardness decreases to less than 130 mgL-1(CaCO3). With the present energy-saving approach, more than 90 percent of the scale ions can be removed after treatment and no obvious scale will decompose on the surface of the heat exchanger. The SEM figures depict that the crystal morphology of scale is affected by the electronic water treatment. The crystal morphology of scale with and without the electronic water treatment is calcite and aragonite, respectively.

In present paper a three dimensional discrete vortex filament method is proposed to simulate unsteady incompressible vortical flows, through which the interaction of two coaxial vortex rings was studied. First the process of head-on collision of two circular rings was reproduced and compared with experimental result. The good agreement between numerical work and experiment verified our model. Then the motion of single elliptic ring was studied and a fit expression was given, through which the axis-switching period of single elliptic ring can be calculate effectively. At last the head-on collision and leapfrogging process of two coaxial elliptic rings was studied respectively. For the case of head-on collision of two elliptic rings, the shape of new generated ring was similar but larger than initial elliptic ring. While for case of two elliptic rings moving in same direction, the axis-switching process of elliptic ring is accompanied with the leapfrogging process.
