Upconversion photoluminescence of Er-doped Bi_(4)Ti_(3)O_(12) ceramics enhanced by vacancy clusters revealed by positron annihilation spectroscopy

Doping of rare earth elements into Bi_(4)Ti_(3)O_(12) can significantly enhance the upconversion photoluminescence(UCPL)properties,but its structure-property relationship is still *** this work,Er-doped bismuth titanate Bi_(4-x)Er_(x)Ti_(3)O_(12)(x=0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4,0.5)ceramics were synthesized via solid-state reaction *** x-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the orthorhombic crystalline structure of the Bi4-xErxTi_(3)O_(12) ceramics without any secondary *** and calculations of positron annihilation spectroscopy were carried out to characterize their defect *** comparison between the experimental and calculated lifetime revealed that vacancy clusters were the main defects in the *** increase of the intensity of the second positron lifetime component(I_(2))of Bi_(3.5)Er_(0.5)Ti_(3)O_(12)ceramics indicated the presence of a high concentration of vacancy *** UCPL spectra showed the sudden enhanced UCPL performance in Bi3.7Er0.3Ti3O12and Bi_(3.5)Er_(0.5)Ti_(3)O_(12)ceramics,which were consistent with the variation of the second positron lifetime component(I2).These results indicate that the enhanced UCPL properties are influenced not only by the concentrations of rare earth ions but also by the concentration of vacancy clusters present within the ceramics.

First-principles calculation of muons in ionic fluorides has been proposed ***,there is a considerable difference between the obtained F-μbond length and the experimental data obtained by muon spin relaxation(μSR).Considering that the difference may be caused by ignoring the quantum effect of muons,we use two-component density functional theory(TCDFT)to consider the quantized muon and recalculate the bond length and theμSR depolarization *** testing several muon-electron correlation,we show that TCDFT can give better results than the commonly used“DFT+μ”.

The Gamma-ray Transient Monitor(GTM) is an all-sky monitor onboard the Distant Retrograde Orbit-A(DRO-A) satellite with the scientific objective of detecting gamma-ray transients ranging from 20 ke V to 1 MeV. The GTM was equipped with five Gamma-ray Transient Probe(GTP) detector modules utilizing a NaI(Tl) scintillator coupled with a SiPM array. To reduce the SiPM noise, GTP uses a dedicated dual-channel coincident readout design. In this work, we first studied the impact of different coincidence times on the detection efficiency and ultimately selected a 0.5 μs time coincidence window for offline data processing. To test the performance of the GTPs and validate the Monte-Carlo-simulated energy response, we conducted comprehensive ground calibration tests using the Hard X-ray Calibration Facility(HXCF) and radioactive sources, including the energy response, detection efficiency, spatial response, bias-voltage response, and temperature dependence. We extensively present the ground calibration results and validate the design and mass model of the GTP detector, thus providing the foundation for in-flight observations and scientific data analysis.

Research on efficient sorting algorithms is always an important research direction. The time complexity of traditional sorting algorithms is O(n2) or O(n× log2n), which still needs for further improvement. Due to its support for parallel computing and good real-time performance, FPGA has become one of the choices for algorithm acceleration. In this paper, a more efficient data packet sorting method based on FPGA's on-chip random access memory is proposed. This method establishes a mapping relationship between the feature field of data packets and the addresses of FPGA on-chip random access memory, and then writes the data packets into the RAM according to the mapping relationship. Due to the ordered nature of RAM addresses, the data packets written into the RAM naturally form an ordered queue when read out in address order. During the process of reading the RAM, an index registers are used to mark the status of each address of the random-access memory, thereby skipping empty addresses and only reading the addresses that store valid data packets. This method fully utilizes the hardware features of FPGA, not only transforming the complex sorting process into simple RAM write operations, but also requiring only 2 clock cycles to sort each signal, thus reducing the time complexity to O(n). © 2024 IEEE.

We present a novel approach for estimating confidence intervals (CIs) of bit error rates (BERs) in high-speed serial links, addressing the shortcomings of the conventional binomial method, which inaccurately presumes errors to be independent and identically distributed. Next, we introduce an alternate method which computes the CI from the Markov chain model of decision-feedback-equalization-induced error propagation in high-speed serial links, illustrating the difference of error distributions obtained by this method and the conventional approach. Finally, we propose a technique that curtails the computation time of our introduced Markov-chain-based method from quadratic growth to a more tractable level, thereby making the proposed method more practical when estimating CIs for low-BER systems. This method has the potential for enhanced accuracy in BER estimation for high-speed serial links. © 2024 SPIE.

Polarization measurements are important for understanding the vector mesons production mechanisms in proton proton (pp) and heavy-ion collisions. Quarkonium measurements in pp collision are crucial to constrain both perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of QCD calculations. The study of quarkonia polarization in pp collisions represents a powerful tool to discriminate among different QCD-based production models. Furthermore, quarkonium polarization measurement in pp collisions can also provide a reference for investigating the fate of charmonium in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formed in nucleus-nucleus collisions. When considering heavy-ion collisions, vector meson polarization, as charmed hadrons and quarkonia could, also be used to investigate the characteristics of the QGP. Recently, it has been shown that light vector mesons produced in Pb–Pb collisions are polarized, an effect likely due to the presence of a large angular momentum of the strongly interacting system produced in non-central heavy-ion collisions. It has also been conjectured that vector mesons could be polarized by the strong magnetic field generated in the early phase of the evolution of the system. In this contribution, the recent ALICE measurements of J/Ψ and D∗ polarization with respect to the reaction plane in √sNN = 5.02 TeV collisions at forward and midrapidity are presented, respectively. Since the 1960s and 1970s, the research of nuclear detection methods has been the focus of attention. On this basis, a series of nuclear signal processing methods and nuclear instruments based on NIM, CAMAC and VME have been developed. With the advent of the digital information age, the introduction of digital pulse processing technology and reconstruction technology has broken the traditional processing way of nuclear signal in nuclear detection system and become a new development direction of nuclear electronics. In this paper, a general nuclear signal acquisition system based on reconfiguration technology is introduced. Based on the reconfigurable characteristics of FPGA, the acquisition system has waveform display, calibrator, digital multichannel and other functions on the unified hardware platform through the modular configuration of FPGA, so as to meet different detection requirements. The test shows that the acquisition system is superior to commercial equipment in performance, and can fully meet the basic needs of ion detection, and the integration is higher, more convenient, economic and universal. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we designed a wireless neutron-gamma spectrometer based on SiPM for remote monitoring, which uses a CLYC scintillator and SiPM array to detect gamma and neutron events. CLYC scintillator coupled with SiPM array is very suitable for small detectors. The wireless energy spectrometer has a size of 100 × 80 × 30 mm and a weight of about 300g. After the signal is digitalized in the analog-to-digital converter (ADC), the data will be transmitted to the FPGA for processing to achieve waveform reconstruction, cache, energy spectrum accumulation and other functions. The results are uploaded to the upper computer through the ZigBee wireless transmission protocol, and the present monitoring results are displayed. The wireless spectrometer provides 13% energy resolution at 662 keV, and a full energy range up to 1.5 MeV. The experimental results display that the wireless spectrometer realizes the remote monitoring of radiation activities on the basis of portability, which greatly facilitates the field environmental radiation detection. © 2023 IEEE.

Getting the K largest/smallest elements from N inputs is one of the essential operations in many applications. In this article, we propose RingTK, a ring, parallel, and high performance Top-K sorter implemented on FPGA. We use a priority queue as the basic processing unit and design a Top-K sorter based on a ring topology with a global maximum module(GMM) to obtain good scalability and high performance. Based on the ring topology, we design Ring Multiplexers (RMUX) and modify the GMM to enable RingTK to efficiently handle different K-sizes and concurrent tasks. We design a encoder to flexibly deal with different data formats and max/min Top-K tasks. Finally, we implement the proposed architecture on the Xilinx XCVU37P FPGA. The results show that the proposed architecture has good scalability, and the throughput and parallelism are approximately linear. We can achieve a throughput of 35.38GB/s with 32 PQs that exceed existing literature with K=8160. © 2024 IEEE.
