Self-driving photodetectors have attracted much attention due to the advantages of the small size, low power consumption, maintenance-free. Although there are many researches on asymmetric self-driving photodetectors, most of them focus on the experimental control of materials and geometry, and lack of systematic theoretical research on the modulation mechanism of the device performance. Here, by coupling the electromagnetic response and the dynamics of semiconductor carriers via finite element method, we take perovskite as an example to systematically and detailedly explore the effects of the asymmetric sch.ttky barrier and doping concentration of the semiconductor on the response performance of the device from internal perspectives such as the distribution of the internal potential. It is found that a high doping concentration leads to the low short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage of the self-driving photodetector. Through the optoelectronic simulation and optimization, the MAPbI3-based self-driving photodetector with Au/Ag sch.ttky-junction shows excellent photoelectric performance at a wide spectral range (300 - 800 nm). It shows a high responsivity of 0.35 A/W and a specific detectivity of (5*10)10 Jones under the 700 nm-wavelength illumination. © 2021 IEEE.

In order to train the capability of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators to deal with the fault, and verify the effectiveness of the fault detection and processing sch.me, a UAV fault injection simulation system is designed. Based on the advanced distributed architecture, the system performs real-time simulation and has good scalability. Wide coverage of fault scenarios could reappear by the distributed closed-loop simulation system. This system ensures the accuracy of the simulation results and meanwhile provides an intuitive feeling in the visual display module. The application results show that the simulation system has good real-time performance, high fidelity, and immersion. It provides effective support for verifying the processing ability of the UAV system to deal with faults and the rationality of the emergency response plan. © 2019 IEEE.

Inhibiting Migration/Loss of Iodide Ions by Lock-Like Interaction for Improving the Performance of Perovskite Solar Cells

Iodide ions (I- and I3-) in perovskites are tend to migration resulting in the phase segregation and degradation of perovskite films and devices under illumination or operation conditions. In order to overcome this intrinsic difficulty, passivation and additive strategies have been developed in many works. Here, we introduced polyetheramine (PEA) into perovskite films to inhibit the migration and loss of iodides and suppress the defects related with these migrated ions. The perovskite films with PEA had barely iodide loss even under long-term ultraviolet (UV) illumination and possessed lower trap density compared with the pristine films no-mater before or after UV aging process. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation revealed that PEA can form strong interaction with iodides and Pb2+ in perovskites through the Pb=O and H-I bonds, and the iodide ions (I- and I3-) could be locked firmly by PEA preventing them to migration or loss. By using this method, the efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) had improved from 19.71 % (without PEA) to 22.02 % (with PEA). After 200 min of maximum power point (MPP) tracking, the efficiency of PSCs with PEA remained 89 % of its initial value and that of PSCs without PEA fully degraded. © 2022, The Authors. In recent years, Motor Imagery (MI) based Brain-computer Interface (BCI) has been proven to be a promising approach for stroke neurorehabilitation. However, the potential therapeutic benefit was limited by BCI performance variation and the 'BCI-illiterate' problem, in which a non-negligible portion of users cannot reach adequate BCI control. In this paper, we investigated the MI-BCI performance variation across subjects (inter-subject) and within-subjects over an extended period (intra-subject). Eight subjects were recruited for a 7-session MI-based BCI intervention. The results showed that pre-cue theta and beta power were significantly correlated with BCI performance both inter and intra-subject aspects. The pre-cue rhythmic dynamic as a neurophysiological index would provide a way for future predicting and neurofeedback training to improve BCI performance. © 2020 ACM.

Flexure graspers have been identified as a bioinspired evolution in robotics to adapt to unpredictable disturbances and uncertainties in unstructured environments. However, these soft robots with infinite degrees of freedom (DOFs) have brought in many technical challenges, among which is the sensing of spatially-distributed and time-varying force and displacement fields for feedback control with a finite number of nodal measurements. This paper proposes a simultaneous motion and force sensing method based on discrete strain data with an illustrative application to a flexure finger that can serve as an actuation and sensing unit in a robotic hand. The method is rigorously formulated by introducing the strain mode shapes and correlating continuous displacement and force/moment distributions with curvatures of deformation. Design analysis of the flexure robotic finger is presented and the compliant composite joints are fabricated via shape deposition with embedded strain gauges. The proposed sensing method is numerically verified with finite element analysis and experimentally validated on a prototype of the flexure finger.

Road detection is an important task in autonomous navigation systems. In this paper, we propose a road detection method via a LiDAR-camera fusion strategy to exploit both the range and color information. The whole system consists of three parts. In the LiDAR based part, we transform the discrete 3D LiDAR point clouds to continuous 2D LiDAR range images and propose a distance-aware height-difference based scanning approach to get the road estimations quickly. In the camera based part, we apply a light-weight transfer learning based road segmentation network. In the LiDAR-camera fusion part, we transform the detection results from LiDAR and camera to dense and binary ones to solve the data imbalance problem and fuse them in a multi-modal conditional random field (MM-CRF) framework. Experiments show that the proposed MM-CRF fusion method can operate in real-time and achieve competitive performance compared with the state-of-the-art road detection algorithms on the KITTI-Road benchmark. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

The design and engineering of the size and shapes of photoactive building blocks enable the fabrication of functional nanocrystals, especially for applications in light harvesting, photocatalytic synthesis, water splitting, and photodegradation. Synthesis of such nanocrystals has been demonstrated recently through noncovalent interactions such as π-π stacking and ligand coordination using optically active porphyrin as a functional building block. Depending on the kinetic conditions, the resulting nanocrystals exhibit well-defined one-to three-dimensional shapes such as spheres, nanowires, and nano-octahedra. These well-defined porphyrin nanocrystals show interesting size-and shape-dependent photocatalytic activity. This article reviews the synthesis and formation of porphyrin nanocrystals with controlled size and shape. Important photocatalytic processes such as photodegradation of organic pollutants, photocatalytic water splitting and hydrogen production, and photosynthesis of metallic fuel-cell catalysts are highlighted. Insights on size-and shape-dependent properties are discussed. © Materials Research Society 2019 A.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are widely applied in many fields, and the application of UAV formation flights is also developing rapidly. But currently many widely used types of UAVs are difficult to work with distributed formation control theory. Therefore, this paper presents a centralized formation algorithm with a three-degree-of-freedom UAV model, and also builds up two collision detection models. After tested and verified in MATLAB/Simulink, the models and control law are exported to C++ code and embedded in Qt-based simulation platform and Ground Control System (GCS) and pass the test under the condition of manually cutting off the communication. The simulation platform provides UAV state data, and the GCS serves as Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) to show the state data and perform control law to make formation flight. With centralized control of the GCS, any UAVs can do formation flight without modification. © 2019 IEEE.

To get rid of the limitations of a real sand table which is not portable and has high professional requirements of sand painting techniques, also to enhance the naturalness and interest of users' experience, an algorithm of colored sand painting simulation is proposed. The algorithm consists of two main parts: (1) Colored sand painting generation method. It uses HSV and RGB models to express color information. (2) Details processing method. It takes advantages of principle of mass conservation to simulate the sand transfer process and random perturbations for various realistic painting techniques. The experimental results indicate that our algorithm can not only present technique details in a realistic, effective, and realtime manner, but also simulate colored sand painting with fine details. © 2020 IEEE.

Enhancing Thermophotovoltaic Performance Using Graphene-BN-InSb Near-Field Heterostructures

Graphene–hexagonal-boron-nitride–InSb near-field structures are designed and optimized to enhance the output power and energy efficiency of the thermophotovoltaic systems working in the temperature range of common industrial waste heat, from 400 to 800 K, which is also the working temperature range for conventional thermoelectric devices. We show that the highest output electric power can reach 7.6×104W/m2 for the system with a graphene–hexagonal-boron-nitride heterostructure as the emitter and a graphene-covered InSb p-n junction as the absorber, while the highest energy efficiency is achieved by the system with the heterostructure as the emitter and an uncovered InSb p-n junction as the absorber (reaching to 34% of the Carnot efficiency). These results show that the performances of near-field thermophotovoltaic systems can be comparable with or even superior to state-of-the-art thermoelectric devices. The underlying physics for the significant enhancement of the thermophotovoltaic performance is understood as due to the resonant coupling between the emitter and the p-n junction, where the surface plasmons in graphene and surface-phonon polaritons in boron nitride play crucial roles. Our study provides a stepping stone toward future high-performance thermophotovoltaic systems.
