Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a newly-developed automatic identification technology, superior qualities of which would make it possible to substitute the bar code system in the future. Most importantly, it plays a very important role in the area of logistics. Based on an analysis of the current situation of grain logistics, this paper has studied the applications of RFID technology in each link of grain logistics management, and designed a RFID-based automatic identification system for modern grain logistics.

A charge-based silicon nanowire FET (SNWT) compact model has been developed. For the first time, inversion charge of SNWT with arbitrary doping concentration is described by an accurate equation including the effects of doping and volume inversion. Analytic drain current, transconductance, output conductance, terminal charges and capacitance are all physically derived and compared with numerical simulation. It shows that the core model is valid for all operation regions and a wide range of physical configuration including channel doping concentrations and geometrical dimensions. Moreover, advanced physical effects have been included in the model self-consistently.

Analyzing the common grounds and the different aspects between the iron-steel industry and the mechanical manufacture industry, this paper constructs the architecture of MTO planning management system for the iron-steel factory, combining the market's demand with the specialties of the iron-steel industry. Supported by this architecture, this paper analyzes the technologic characters of the steel manufacture and presents the mathematics models and solution strategy for order planning. Regarding the five-day as the least time unit and minimizing the earliness-tardiness penalties as the goal, an integer programming models for the order planning is created. The genetic algorithm based on the repeatable natural number coding and 3-mutation operator is used as the solution strategy. The search methods include the interior-point method (IPM) and the outer-point method (OPM). This hybrid search method ensures the global property of searching. At last, the order planning of a famous factory is used as the instance in the experimentation and the model parameters are analyzed. The numerical analysis shows that the model comes up to the production process, the solutions obtained by this algorithm are superior to those obtain by the human-machine system. So, the model and algorithm are valid.

This paper presents a new sealing method for soft polymer (elastomer) microchips. A robust and reversible sealing method, which allows various materials to be bonded and sealed tightly with each other even in aqueous solutions, is developed. A poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchip system, which can actively generate bonding and sealing forces by itself, is invented. By inducing negative pressure into additional closed areas, an instant sucking disk is made. This disk is used to tighten up the conformal contact of soft polymers. Other functionalities of active sealing such as making reusable microchips, patterning cells, and performing cellular assays in a single dish have also been examined and will be discussed hereunder. This technique gives a robust and universal solution for microchip sealing issues by sealing soft polymers with diverse materials in various conditions. Active sealing will simplify numerous assays in lab-on-a-chip industry and will open a new era for cellular microchip assays.

The Expression Synthesis Project (ESP) literalizes the driving metaphor to allow users to create expressive performances through a driving interface. In musical performance, controlled variations in tempo, dynamics, and articulation, lead to musical gestures that clarify structural ambiguities and create musical affect. Guided by the road in ESP, the user changes the tempo by depressing the gas or brake pedals;dynamics are coupled with acceleration, and articulation is controlled independently. Straight road segments suggest opportunities to accelerate, while varying degrees of road bends prompt slowdowns of different levels. The road serves as a representation of, and guide to, a particular interpretation of a piece. This paper focuses on the concepts underlying the design of the road in ESP, providing case studies on mapping diverse interpretations to roadmaps. We describe the design of two roadmaps each for Brahms' Hungarian Dances Nos. 2 and 3. We show that the road has a distinct influence on the way a driver traverses a path, presenting empirical results of driving/performance outcomes using the roads designed, and analyzing the tempo time series. General trends of slowdowns near curvature extremities and accelerations are observed. Statistics show that a particular roadmap has the effect of constraining the performances to a certain style, with specifically placed gestures, while allowing the driver latitude in expressive control. Performances from the same paths are shown to be more similar to each other than those from different paths, having average correlation coefficients of 0.39 vs. 0.16 for Dance No.2, and 0.61 vs. 0.38 for Dance No.3. Overall, the interpretation maps resulted in expressively pleasing performances made available for further examination. © 2006 ACM.

The design of stable DSP-based controller for a new single stage inverter architecture with solar energy input is discussed in this paper. The proposed architecture uses two dependent control loops to track the maximum available power of a solar array source, and to supply a sinusoidal current to the utility grid. If not well designed, the control loops in this inverter configuration suffer from instability when operating at different regions of the solar array power curve, namely the Right Hand Side region (RHS) and the Left Hand Side region (LHS). This paper presents a mathematical analysis to the source of instability, and proposes a robust controller for stable system design. Experimental results are presented to verify the validity of the designed controller.

This paper describes an effort to identify common metrics for task-oriented human-robot interaction (HRI). We begin by discussing the need for a toolkit of HRI metrics. We then describe the framework of our work and identify important biasing factors that must be taken into consideration. Scratchpad memory has been introduced as a replacement for cache memory as it improves the performance of certain embedded systems. Additionally, it has also been demonstrated that scratchpad memory can significantly reduce the energy consumption of the memory hierarchy of embedded systems. This is significant, as the memory hierarchy consumes a substantial proportion of the total energy of an embedded system. This paper deals with optimization of the instruction memory scratchpad based on a methodology that uses a metric which we call the concomitance. This metric is used to find basic blocks which are executed frequently and in close proximity in time. Once such blocks are found, they are copied into the scratchpad memory at appropriate times; this is achieved using a special instruction inserted into the code at appropriate places. For a set of benchmarks taken from Mediabench, our scratchpad system consumed just 59% (avg) of the energy of the cache system, and 73% (avg) of the energy of the state of the art scratchpad system, while improving the overall performance. Compared to the state of the art method, the number of instructions copied into the scratchpad memory from the main memory is reduced by 88%.
