Energy is a valuable resource in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The status of energy consumption should be continuously monitored after network deployment. The information about energy status can be used to early notify both sensor nodes and network deployers about resource depletion in some parts of the network. It can also be used to perform energy-efficient routing in WSNs. In this paper, we propose a neural network based clustering and energy efficient routing in WSN with the objective of maximizing the network lifetime. In the proposed sch.me, the problem is formulated as linear programming (LP) with specified constraints. Cluster head selection is done using adaptive learning in neural networks followed by routing and data transmission. The simulation results show that the proposed sch.me can be used in wide area of applications in WSNs.

A classification of remote sensing data by using several classifiers and neural networks is presented in this paper. The application was conducted using a scene about agricultural areas, and it contains several agricultural classes. Several classification methods were compared and tested over a multispectral scene containing agricultural classes using a data base, and the Hybrid Learning Vector Quantization neural network approaches are used to classify multispectral TM images. The main result obtained in this paper is that the neural network considered here provides a satisfying effect for the classification of agricultural multispectral images, and it means that this neural network architecture may be considered as a good alternative to the classical Bayesian method, especially when processing hyper-spectral data where several hundreds of spectral bands have to be considered together.

This paper is a continuation regarding the proposed architecture on multimodality discussed by Armoogum et al. It proposes further enhancements on the current architecture and explores other possibilities regarding its application in Mauritius. The enhanced architecture for multimodality is deployed on a 3G network instead using of only conventional GSM network and local phones line. This give rises to various possibilities such as MMS, real time video transmission, client application on Symbian phones with high volume of data transmission.

With the increasing complexity of embedded systems, component-based software development (CBSD) is regarded as a beneficial approach for embedded systems. For component technology, applications are built by assembling interacting components and interfaces are the means by which components interact. Embedded systems are usually safety-critical applications. There is a real need for clear and sound definition of operational semantics for the composition of components such that they may be used to direct the construction of the desired system and help to make analysis of behaviors and properties. This paper describes the composition semantics of component-based embedded software architecture in terms of the communicating sequential language (CSP). Three types of interfaces: procedure call, data access and event are classified. And the composition semantics for each type is presented. The overall objective is to provide a soundly based notation for specifying and verifying embedded software architectures.

Supplier categorization is considered as a business approach to reduce the logistic costs and improve business performance. In this work we propose a data clustering algorithm for supplier categorization namely S-Canopy clustering. It is simply making use of canopy clustering to reduce the number of distance comparisons. Comparison analysis shows a feasibility to obtain better results for categorization of suppliers in a supplier base.

In our previous work, we proposed few updated data dissemination methods to refresh old replicas efficiently in mobile ad hoc networks. These methods disseminate updated data items every time when owners of original data items update the items or every time two mobile hosts are newly connected with each other and this causes heavy traffic in the entire network. In this paper, we assume applications that periodically execute read operations with strict deadlines to data items and propose few alternative updated data dissemination methods. These methods reduces the traffic for data dissemination while keeping a high success ratio for read operations. © 2008 IEEE.

Noise removal from an observed signal is an important problem in signal processing. PDE-based methods have been widely used because of their common property being good at removing the noise while preserving the edges. These methods restore images by modifying towards cartoon-like images. Therefore, other important features such as textures and certain details tend to be degraded in the denoising process. In this work, we propose a modified variational denoising algorithm that adaptively selects the parameters according to the local nature of the image. In order to estimate the locally appropriate parameters, neural network based learning is employed. This method can adaptively change the denoising level by changing the regularization parameter and the smoothing kernel according to the local image. The results of denoising by the proposed method show both visual and objective improvements.

Signcryption is a cryptographic primitive that performs digital signature and public key encryption simultaneously, at lower computational costs and communication overheads than the signature-then-encryption approach. In 2005, Huang et al. proposed an identity-based ring signcryption sch.me by combining the concepts of identity-based ring signature and signcryption together. However, their sch.me is computationally inefficient, since the number of pairing computations grows linearly with the group size. In this paper, we propose an efficient identity-based ring signcryption sch.me. Our sch.me only needs four pairing computations for any group size. We then prove that the proposed sch.me is secure against adaptive ciphertext attacks in the random oracle model assuming the Decisional Bilinear Diffie-Hellman problem is computationally hard.

TTM is a type of multivariate public key cryptosystem. In 2007, the inventor of TTM proposed two new instances of TTM to resist the existing attack, in particular, the Nie et al attack. The two instances are claimed to achieve a security of 2 109 against Nie et al attack. In this paper, we show that the instance I is still insecure, and in fact, it do not achieve a better design in the sense that we can find a ciphertext-only attack utilizing the First Order Linearization Equations while for the previous version of TTM, only Second Order Linearization Equations can be used in the beginning stage of the previous attack. Different from previous attacks, we use an iterated linearization method to break the instances I. For any given valid ciphertext, we can find its corresponding plaintext within 2 31 F 2 to power of 8 -computations after performing once for any public key a computation of complexity less than 2 44 . Our experiment result shows we have unlocked the lock polynomials after several iterations, though we do not know the detailed construction of lock polynomials.
