elec.roencephalogram (EEG) is a method that records elec.rical activities of the brain. Reliable interpretation of its measurements rely on accurate correspondence of the scalp elec.rodes and the underlying cortical surface. To standardize comparative studies international 10/20, 10/10 and 10/5 systems for the placement of elec.rodes have been proposed to specify the locations of scalp EEG sensors under the assumption that there is a consistent correlation between these sites and the structure of the cerebral cortex. However, several studies have demonstrated that the cranio-cerebral correlations vary greatly. For enhancing the elec.rophysiological analyses, an algorithm is presented in this paper, allowing the multimodal visualization of EEG and magnetic resonance scan in the patient's native space. The key to our solution is twofold: an interactive image-based elec.rode placement algorithm and an extended GPU-based multimodal ray-casting algorithm. Experimental results show that with the present tool one can easily assess the cranio-cerebral correspondences even when the brain tissue is displaced by structural lesions.

This paper presents a new sealing method for soft polymer (elastomer) microchips. A robust and reversible sealing method, which allows various materials to be bonded and sealed tightly with each other even in aqueous solutions, is developed. A poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchip system, which can actively generate bonding and sealing forces by itself, is invented. By inducing negative pressure into additional closed areas, an instant sucking disk is made. This disk is used to tighten up the conformal contact of soft polymers. Other functionalities of active sealing such as making reusable microchips, patterning cells, and performing cellular assays in a single dish have also been examined and will be discussed hereunder. This technique gives a robust and universal solution for microchip sealing issues by sealing soft polymers with diverse materials in various conditions. Active sealing will simplify numerous assays in lab-on-a-chip industry and will open a new era for cellular microchip assays.

Auctions have become an integral part of elec.ronic commerce and a promising field for applying multi-agent technologies. Correctly judging the quality of auctioned goods is often difficult for amateurs, in particular, in Internet auctions. However, experts can correctly judge the quality of goods. In this situation, it is difficult to make experts tell the truth and attain an efficient allocation, since experts have a clear advantage over amateurs and they would not reveal their valuable information without some reward. In our previous work, we have succeeded in developing such auction protocols under the following two cases: (1) the case of a single-unit auction among experts and amateurs, and (2) the case of a combinatorial auction among single-skilled experts and amateurs. In this paper, we focus on versatile experts. Versatile experts have an interest in, and expert knowledge on the qualities of several goods. In the case of versatile experts, there would be several problems, e.g., free riding problems, if we simply extended the previous VCG-style auction protocol. Thus, in this paper, we employ PORF (price-oriented, rationing-free) protocol for designing our new protocol to realize a strategy-proof auction protocol for experts. In the protocol, the dominant strategy for experts is truth-telling. Also, for amateurs, truth-telling is the best response when two or more experts selec. the dominant strategy. Furthermore, the protocol is false-name-proof.

Traditional methods for partial envelope analysis run into difficulties in the presence of tremolo and noise. This paper investigates an alternative method of analysis that uses a variety of non-linear warping techniques to match a synthetic envelope template to the partial envelope. Generation of suitable templates is discussed and the variety of implementations for the warping algorithm is examined. A complete procedure for matching the template is then explained and justified. Application of this procedure to partial envelope analysis of flute sounds is described and the results presented demonstrate the best choice of warping implementation. This technique allows for better envelope segmentation thus enabling improved modelling in representations such as the Timbre Model [1].
