We proposed a watermarking for 3D polygonal meshes using normal vector distribution of each patch. The distribution of norm vector for 3D polygonal mesh is a consistent factor to be robust against various attacks such as af£ne transform and mesh connectivity altering. Therefore, the proposed algorithm embedded watermark into these consistent normal vectors and equal watermark bit was embedded into each patch of subdivided mesh to have robustness against the partial geometric deformation. Experiment results exhibited the proposed algorithm is robust by extracting watermark bit for various attacked models.

The establishment of National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Jr. chapeters at high sch.ols is discussed to aid the entire engineering communities in various ways. Through the implementation of NSBE Jr. chapters the high sch.ol gains an additional academic and extracurricular outlet for its students. The high sch.ol is also able to form a relationship with the university associated with the NSBE chapter. The most important aspect of the involvement with the NSBE Jr. chapters for the graduate students and the members of Georgia Tech Society of Black Engineers (GTSBE) is the ability to share knowledge and experience with the high sch.ol students in an effort to aid them in making decisions and choices in their lives.

Wireless networks often operate under harsh environmental conditions with many uncontrollable factors causing data corruption and network outage. Atmospheric phenomena such as rain and snow make signal reception difficult for such systems. Furthermore, factors such as multipath fading and depolarization due to rain attenuation can severely and adversely impact the performance of wireless networks. This paper presents an equalization algorithm that uses spatial and temporal diversity. By using such information of the received signal, it is possible to minimize the effects of intersymbol interference, and leads to a reduction in computational complexity. Results show that the proposed equalization algorithm offers a noticeable improvement with single-carrier modulated signals.

A WDM fiber radio system with improved spectral efficiency, incorporating remote LO delivery and FBG optical filtering techniques, is demonstrated. The network utilizes remote LO delivery together with multi-sector SCM signal transmission, using very narrowband optical filtering techniques via custom designed FBGs. Two different types of FBG designs are implemented and their performance is compared in an experimental system application. The results show that all channels within a 25 GHz band are successfully recovered with minimal degradation.

Automated sleep staging plays an important role in evaluation and treatment of neurological disorders impacted by state of awareness. Recent work in seizure prediction demonstrates the need for on-line calculation of state of awareness from the intracranial elec.roencephalogram (IEEG) during measurement of seizure precursors. The aim of this work is to develop such a method for use as input to seizure prediction algorithms. To establish a reference point, data segments from a single patient were examined, and it was found that the power spectrum of the delta band (0 - 4 Hz) in the left temporal depth elec.rode contact closest to the occipital lobe was qualitatively "flatter" during wakefulness than during sleep. An algorithm was developed to quantify this observation and automatically classify signals as "awake" or "asleep," for comparison to behavioral classification of sleep state from video recordings. This algorithm was tested on 753 hours of data from a total of five patients, with average accuracy of 72.1%. One-minute segments were used;the first 1/3 of each patient's data was used for training, and the second 2/3 was used to assess accuracy. Subjective classification of state of consciousness, misalignment of visual classification and IEEG data, and attachment of disjoint data segments may have degraded accuracy. However, further refinement of these methods, calibrated to classical scoring of sleep stage on scalp EEG, could provide sufficient accuracy for use in real-time seizure prediction and intervention devices.

A bi-directional and multi-channel wireless telemetry capsule, 11 mm in diameter, is presented that can transmit video images from inside the human body and receive a control signal from an external control unit. The proposed telemetry capsule includes transmitting and receiving antennas, a demodulator, decoder, four LEDs, and CMOS image sensor, along with their driving circuits. The receiver demodulates the received signal radiated from the external control unit. Next, the decoder receives the stream of control signals and interprets five of the binary digits as an address code. Thereafter, the remaining signal is interpreted as four bits of binary data. Consequently, the proposed telemetry module can demodulate external signals so as to control the behavior of the camera and four LEDs during the transmission of video images. The proposed telemetry capsule can simultaneously transmit a video signal and receive a control signal determining the behavior of the capsule itself. As a result, the total power consumption of the telemetry capsule can be reduced by turning off the camera power during dead time and separately controlling the LEDs for proper illumination of the intestine.

In this paper we propose a new formulation of minimum verification error training and apply it to the problem of topic verification as an example. In topic verification, a decision is made as to whether a document truly belongs to a particular topic of interest. Such a decision typically depends on a comparison between a model for the desired topic and a model for background topics, using a decision threshold. We propose modeling the background topics as a cohort model consisting of a weighted combination of the ]M closest topics discovered from the training data. The weights and the decision threshold are optimized using the generalized probabilistic descent algorithm to explicitly minimize the verification error rate, which is defined to be a weighted sum of the Type I (false rejection) and Type II (false acceptance) errors.

We report on the photorefractive properties of two polymer composites that utilize a new bis-triarylamine side-chain polymer matrix. Correctly locating the frontier orbitals of the new transport manifold with respect to the HOMO levels of chromophores, allows stable continuous operation over exposure levels of more that 4 kJ/cm2 when samples are elec.rically biased at 57 V/μm. This operational stability is combined with video-rate compatible grating build-up times and a dynamic range that allows index modulations of 3 × 10-3 and gain coefficients on the order of 100 cm -1 at moderate fields. The thermal stability of one of the composites reported is excellent, showing no signs of phase separation even after one week at 60° C. A comparison with the stability of composites where the new matrix was replaced by PVK is also presented.

Mutations are structural changes in DNA that can cause protein malfunction and genetic disease. This paper describes a machine learning approach to analyzing mutations associated to Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as brittle bone disease, We apply SORCER, a second-order rule induction system to predict clinical phenotypes of OI from mutation and neighboring amino acid sequences in the COLIA1 gene. On the average, over ten 10-fold cross-validations, SORCER gives more accurate results than C4.5 with average accuracy of about 81.2%. The paper discusses the advantages and limitations of SORCER and demonstrates its use to provide initial exploration of biological sequences.
