The paper presents a test stimulus generation and fault simulation methodology for the detection of catastrophic faults in analog circuits. The test methodology chosen for evaluation is RMS AC supply current monitoring. Tests are generated and evaluated taking account of the potential fault masking effects of process spread on the faulty circuit responses. A new test effectiveness metric of probability of detection is defined and the application of the technique to an analog multiplier circuit is presented. The fault coverage figures are therefore more meaningful than those obtained with a fixed threshold.

The transfer function is responsible for the three-dimensional image classification and its design is a key process in volume visualization applications. However, it is difficult and time-consuming for the users to design new proper transfer function when the types of the studied images change. By introducing a general regression neural network (GRNN) into the transfer function design, together with a proper image evaluation strategy, a new volume rendering framework is proposed in this paper. Experimental results showed that by using GRNN to guide the transfer function design, the robustness of volume rendering is promoted and the corresponding classification process is optimized.

This paper provides a detailed analysis and study on the parameter sensitivities and domain of attraction of the novel neuro-based adaptive controller based on the previously published paper. The special learning algorithm similar to back propagation provides better stability and wide domain of attraction for the controller provided that the neural network parameters are chosen carefully. The controller acts as a direct adaptive controller and the weight and bias matrices are updated online without any prior offline training. It is easy to implement in real time due to less complexity in terms of absence of several neural networks and robustifying terms. This paper reveals the domain of attraction based on different parameter values and the sensitivities of the error surface with respect to designed parameters. We have tested the controller on a two link robot arm system and extensive simulation results show the dependence and effectiveness of the controller with respect to parameters of the designed neural network. This gives a better insight of the controller that has been investigated with systems of the form x = f(x)+u + w and x = f(x)+g(x)u(t)+w. The theoretical proof on the stability of the closed loop nonlinear systems with the adaptive controller has been investigated in detail in this paper. The paper also summarizes the potential advantages, disadvantages, prospective developments and real life applicability of the controller sch.me at the end.

In this paper, we design a proportional-period controller for allocating CPU to real rate multimedia applications on a general-purpose computer system. We model this computer system problem in state space form. We design a predictive controller to allocate the proportion of the CPU to the threads when the long-term time deviation from the current time stamp is small or positive. When it is negative and exceeds a certain threshold, we switch to a controller designed using dynamic optimization LQR tracking techniques, to drive the error (short-term and long-term time deviations) to a small value. The challenges in the problem include the coarse granularity (quantization) of the time-stamp markings of the video frames, the unpredictable decoding completion time of the frames, the variable decoding times of the frames, and control actuation being limited to positive values.

This paper proposes a method for designing a color look-up table (GLUT) that can simultaneously process gamut mapping and color space conversion without any complex computation. After constructing a LUT composed of the scanner and printer gamuts, fictive sample points are uniformly selected in CIELAB space and CMY values computed using gamut mapping. The scanner input RGB image is then converted into CIELAB using a regression function and the scanner RGB values converted into CMY values using the proposed GLUT that includes gamut mapping without any additional gamut mapping process. In experiments, the proposed method produced a similar color difference to the direct computation method, yet a reduced computational complexity when compared with discrete gamut mapping and color space conversion.

In this work, we fabricated twin silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) memory (TSM) cell transistors, based on the 90 nm non-volatile memory technology and showed the implementation of programmable threshold voltage (V/sub th/) MOSFETs in the nano-scale regime. It was clearly observed that the transistor has high I/sub on//I/sub off/ ratio (>106) and small drain leakage (/spl sim/10 pA) in the 30 nm regime. From the experimental result from fabricated devices, it can be deduced that the TSM transistor has various MOSFET applications due to charged states in the nitride. To evaluate the various MOSFET applications of the TSM transistor in the nano-scale regime, the simulation of a 30 nm-long gate TSM transistor was carried out on the 2D ATLAS, including tunneling and impact ionization models. It is concluded that the proposed TSM MOSFET structure promises a well-controlled short channel effect and high I/sub on//I/sub off/ characteristics.

Now-a-days, spell checker has become an essential part of any application software and as people use different languages in different regions of the world, they also need different spell checkers. But unfortunately we have only a few spell checking tools only for some limited languages. Especially, south Asian languages are deprived more in this case, though more than 110 million people live in this vast region and use their very rich local languages like Bangla, Hindi, Tamil etc. These languages are far different from western languages in phonetic properties and grammatical rules. This is why the existing algorithms and techniques that are being used to check the spelling of English and other western languages are not that much suitable for south Asian languages;rather they need different algorithms and techniques for expected efficiency. This paper is an approach to presents a new algorithm based on the existing algorithms to generate suggestions for miss-spelt words along with a complete design of implementation of a spell checker which is much efficient for south Asian languages.
