This paper studies the problem of the efficiency improvement in a nearly zero energy building (nZEB) by increasing the efficiency of the domestic wind turbine (WT). Since the cost of the equipment in a nZEB plays a key role, a WT with a squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) is employed. The increase of the WT efficiency is attained through a minimum electric loss (MEL) controller for the SCIG that cooperates with a maximum point tracking controller (MPPT) that maximizes the output power of the WT. The MEL and the MPPT controllers determine the optimal d- and qaxis stator current components of the SCIG, respectively, through optimal conditions. Several experimental results are presented to validate the theoretical considerations and the effectiveness of the proposed optimal efficiency control system of a WY with SCIG. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

The Hilbert Huang Transform (HHT) is a powerful tool for Power Quality (PQ) classifications. One of the main advantages of the HHT is its ability to analyse non-stationary complex waveforms with very good time resolution. However, like other waveform classification techniques, it has difficulty in resolving the instant of sudden changes in the waveform. It has also difficulty with signals that have frequency components close together. This paper summarises the fundamentals of the HHT technique and its application to power quality classifications including its advantages and disadvantages. Two novel techniques to improve the performance of the HHT technique in analysing power quality problems will be proposed. Results from simulations will be provided and discussed. ©2010 IEEE.

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) has become one of the most known and prominent research area in a variety of sectors during the last few decades. As a result, HAR can be used to keep tabs on a wide range of activities and the environment in general, all according to the user's choices. HAR aims to categorize human actions in order to better understand how people behave. Its adaptability has recently piqued the curiosity of computer vision experts. RGB, skeleton, depth, infrared, point cloud, event stream, auditory, acceleration, radar, sensors, and Wi-Fi signals are just a few of the data techniques that can be used to describe human actions;each storing a slightly different collection of potentially relevant but separate information and each with their own set of benefits depending on the context of use. As a result, numerous previous articles attempted to investigate HAR methods through various means. The proposed method classifies the intelligence methods to HAR according to the various modalities from which input data can be collected and provide an in-depth examination of their relative merits and shortcomings. In this study, a comprehensive overview of current state of art in artificial intelligence is provided by including device modalities, data modalities, obstacles, and applications in HAR feature direction. The study provides some thoughts and proposals for future research based on the comparison of many HAR benchmark datasets. © 2023 IEEE.

The development aims to mimic the anthropomorphic specifications of a human head by using available modern equipment such as the 3D printing machine. The proponents developed mechanisms to meet the Anthropomorphic data of a human head, angle of actuation, and the angular velocity of the mouth, eyes, and neck. The proponents also tested motor torque and stress on the parts to ensure the robustness of the machine, which yields 520 N-mm and 27.74 MPa on the neck tilting, 188 N-mm and 24.74 Mpa on neck swinging, 114 N-mm, and 12.09 Mpa on the neck panning, 73 and 7.052 MPa on the Eye Tilting. The maximum angular velocity of each part is 266.33 deg/sec on neck tilting, 262.33 deg/sec on neck swinging, 314 deg/sec on neck panning, 795.66 deg/sec on eye tilting, and 785.66 deg/sec on eye panning. The Proponents used the MPU-6050 accelerometer to test for the result of this study to achieve the required data. The effectiveness of the machine is as follows;eyes, 92.43% for panning, and 93.60% for tilting, neck, 89.20% for panning, 75.66% for tilting, 75.52% for swinging, for the mouth, 81.94%. © 2021 IEEE.

There are many choices to make when evaluating the performance of a complex system. In the context of parallel job scheduling, one must decide what workload to use and what measurements to take. The accurate prediction of the Bitcoin price can provide decision support for investors and a reference for governments to make regulatory policies. The Bitcoin price prediction requires a careful analysis and representation due to its data characteristics such as highly volatile, highly non-linear, non-stationary, non-linear dynamics, no periodicity, and existence of spectrum of scaling components, noisy data, and randomness. The price can be effectively forecasted by transforming the original data into another amenable form along with AI tools. In this paper, we used Interval Graph (IG) for transforming original data which is amenable for applying Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) model to predict Bitcoin price. The Bitcoin price, which is a time-series data, is captured in the form of windows representing price of day, week, and month, respectively. We have used three evaluation metrics, such as MAPE, RMSE, and Dstat. The empirical study has clearly demonstrated the encouraging performance and effectiveness of the IG-ANN. The performance is compared with traditional ANN techniques on bitcoin time-series data spanning 2013–2019 and found that IG-ANN is outperforming all. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Power system congestion management is a hard task, and the electricity industry restructuring process tends to difficult it even more. The competitive electric power market arises new congestion management perspectives and difficulties. This work demonstrates that modal analysis technique can be a powerful tool for defining corrective actions to overcome congestion problems. Extensive voltage stability margin assessment, for a test system, shows that modal participation factors allow the identification of congested areas, and also the most adequate active and reactive power based control actions to relieve congestion. © 2003 IEEE.

Harmful algal blooms(HABs) have been damaging sea farming on the coast of South Korea for almost every year from 1990, and generally have a bad influence on the coastal environment and sea ecosystem. Research on the automatic red tide image classification is important in red tide research to distinguish between harmful algae and unharmful algae, which play a significant role in mitigating the harm of red tide blooms, decreasing the economic loss caused by HABs, and protecting the health and safety of people. However, domestic study of automatic red tide image recognition is not enough. Particularly, recognizing harmful algae image is difficult because over 200 species of algae in the world have a different size and features. In order to resolve the above limitation, this paper proposes the red tide algae image recognition method using hierarchical learning approach based on semantic feature of NMF(nonnegative matrix factorization). The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance than other red tide recognition methods.

Adaptive cooperative FEC based on combination of network coding and channel coding for wireless sensor networks

The data delivery over wireless links with QoS-guarantee is a big challenge because of the unreliable and dynamic characteristics of wireless sensor networks, as well as QoS diversity requirements of applications. In this paper, we propose an adaptive cooperative Forward Error Correction algorithm based on network coding, in the hope quality of experience could be satisfied on receivers with high quality. The algorithm, based on wireless link and distance, adjusts the RS coder parameter and selects the optimal relay nodes. On the other hand, we combine the channel coding and network coding technology at the data link layer to fulfil the requirements of QoS diversity. Both mathematical analysis and NS simulation results demonstrate the proposed mechanism is superior to the traditional FEC and cooperative FEC alone at the reliability, real time performance and energy efficiency. In addition, the proposed mechanism can significantly improve quality of media streaming, in terms of playable frame rate on the receiving side. © 2014 Academy publisher.

In this work blind spot phenomenon in phased array antenna is studied and removed by using EBG structures. This phenomenon is produced due to interaction between surface waves propagation in substrate and Floquet mode in array. Blind spot in phased array antenna causes degradation of total gain. For suppressing these surface waves a mushroom-like Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) structure is designed and implemented. This array is designed with microstrip patch antenna operating at 10GHz. The detailed design procedure is explained in this paper and full-wave simulation is applied to validate designed structure. Simulated results show a significant improvement in the blind spot and nearly constant gain in scanning ±20 degree from boresight. © 2017 IEEE.
