A novel simulation framework for crowd transportations

Purpose: With the development of the modern economy, vehicles are no longer a luxury for people, which greatly facilitate people’s daily life, but at the same time bring traffic congestion. How to relieve traffic congestion and improve its capacity is a hot research area. This paper aims to propose a new simulation framework for crowd transportations to ease traffic congestion. Design/methodology/approach: This paper establishes related simulation models such as vehicles, traffic lights and advisers. Then the paper describes their relationships, gives their interaction mechanism and solidifies the above into a software implementation framework. Findings: This paper proposes a simulation framework for crowd transportations. Originality/value: In this framework, traffic lights are used as a control method to control the road network and road conditions are used as an Affecter to influence individual behavior. The vehicle passing rate is defined by the correlation between endowment and the start time of the traffic lights. In this framework, members are related, dynamically adjusted according to road conditions and dynamically optimized member decisions. The optimal path is dynamic and real-time adjustments are made for each step forward. It is different from the traditional optimal path in which there is only one fixed one and it is different from the macroscopic optimal path that does not exist. © 2021, Zhihui Li and Hongbo Sun.

The economic dispatch problem (EDP) is crucial in optimizing and controlling power systems. As modern power system become more complex, traditional centralized communication methods are becoming less reliable. Therefore, distributed optimization method that relie on communication between neighboring nodes without the need for a central node are proposed. Existing distributed optimization methods for economic dispatch problems mainly focus on equality constraints like supply-demand balance, while problems with global inequality constraints are rarely studied. To address this gap, we propose a distributed optimization algorithm based on the primal-dual method and gradient tracking technique that can handle both global equality and inequality constraints. We thoroughly analyze its convergence and successfully apply it to the EDP with emission constraints to demonstrate its effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

Owing to the invisibility characteristics of the interiors of concrete structures, nondestructive testing technologies are commonly employed to detect internal damage. Electromagnetic flaw detection technology, as a prominent nondestructive testing method, offers capabilities of strong penetration and precise imaging. However, the output images produced by this detection technology are usually reliant on subjective human judgment, and existing automatic detection algorithms have limitations in terms of accuracy. To enhance the accuracy of electromagnetic flaw detection images, this paper proposes improved YOLOv7 based detection method. First of all, the ACBlock convolution module is introduced to replace the original 3×3 convolution kernel for alleviating the loss of edge feature information caused by the sampling operation of the backbone network MP module. Next, in order to have more focus on the semantic features of small targets, a global attention mechanism (GAMAttention) is incorporated into the algorithm. Then, the FReLU activation function is adopted to enhance the algorithm sensitivity to image space. Finally, experiments are conducted on a self-created concrete flaw detection image dataset to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the mean Average Precision (mAP) value achieved by the improved algorithm is 95.85%. which has a significant improvement of 13.89% in comparison with the pre-improved YOLOv7 algorithm and surpasses other algorithms in the same domain. These findings represent that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the accuracy of concrete electromagnetic flaw detection image detection. © 2024 ACM.

Power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) not only improves the performance of motor drive systems, but also brings about common-mode voltage (CMV) issues, that challenging the normal operation of the system. This article proposes a zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy based on unified voltage modulation for a 60° Y-connected six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor system driven by a dual three-phase inverter. The theoretical basis and zero common-mode implementation scheme of unified modulation are analyzed, and the effectiveness of the proposed zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy is finally verified through simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

In the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), the role of vehicle detection and classification is indispensable for streamlining transportation management, refining traffic control, and conducting in-depth accident analyses. However, the intricate task of accurately detecting multi-oriented vehicles in diverse scenarios remains a challenge, even with the advancements in ITS. Factors such as vehicle morphology, design, road conditions, structural details, and climatic variables provide a significant part in the detection. To address this, our study introduces an advanced YOLOv8n model, specifically the YOLOv8n-CGW, which is built upon pre-trained deep learning frameworks. This model is meticulously tailored to enhance the detection capabilities for multi-oriented vehicles. Comprehensive evaluations on esteemed datasets like MtV, MERGED, Custom dataset, DAWN, WEDGE, and UA-DETRAC underscore the superiority of our approach over existing models. Notably, our YOLOv8n-CGW model achieves a remarkable mAP of 83.3% and boasts a swift inference time of 0.0019s, setting a new benchmark in the domain. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

A new simulation framework for crowd collaborations

Purpose: Collaboration is a common phenomenon in human society. The best way of collaborations can make the group achieve the best interests. Because of the low cost and high repeatability of simulation, it is a good method to explore the best way of collaborations by means of simulation. The traditional simulation is difficult to adapt to the crowd intelligence network simulation, so the crowd collaborations simulation is proposed. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, the atomic swarm intelligence unit and collective swarm intelligence unit are proposed to represent the behavior of individuals and groups in physical space and the interaction between them. Findings: To explore the best collaboration mode of the group, a framework of crowd collaborations simulation is proposed, which decomposes the big goal into the small goals by constructing the cooperation chain and analyzes the cooperation results and feeds them back to the next simulation. Originality/value: Two kinds of swarm intelligence units are used to represent the simulated individuals in the group, and the pattern is used to represent individual behavior. It is suitable for the simulation of collaboration problems in various types and situations. © 2020, Rui Yang and Hongbo Sun.

In recent years, wide bandgap semiconductor devices such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) have been increasingly applied in electric drive systems, effectively enhancing system power density. However, the high-frequency and high-speed characteristics of SiC devices exacerbate electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues within the system. Additionally, the cables in electric drive systems exhibit significant antenna effects, radiating conducted EMI into the surrounding space, thereby affecting the normal operation of other sensitive equipment. Therefore, it is essential to research motor drive system topologies that can actively suppress EMI and predict radiated interference in motor drive systems. The topology of a four-module motor paired with parallel inverters can achieve active suppression of EMI at the source. This paper conducts a simulation-based prediction of radiated interference for a parallel inverter-driven four-module motor system. It analyzes the coupling mechanisms of common mode and differential mode radiated interference and validates the radiated interference from both DC and AC cables through simulations, predicting the impact on surrounding sensitive equipment in practical systems. © 2024 IEEE.

The image style conversion work is to map the style of the target domain image while keeping the content of the natural landscape image in the source domain unchanged. This technology is widely used in fields such as painting, film, and artistic creation. At present, research in this field mostly focuses on learning the styles of Western painters, lacking research on traditional Chinese painting styles. Due to the limitations of various painting techniques and clear semantic boundaries in traditional Chinese painting, existing methods still cannot clearly express stroke boundaries. This article proposes a style conversion network based on CycleGAN named Conv-CycleGAN. Convnext blocks are added to the generator in combination with PONO-MS modules to extract finer boundary features, and a self-attention mechanism module is used in the discriminator to achieve high-quality image style conversion of Chinese pastoral landscape paintings. Through extensive experimental comparisons and evaluations, it has been proven that this method has the ability to optimize the traditional Chinese painting style, confirming its superiority.

This study establishes an acceleration prediction model of the preceding vehicle tailored for cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) systems that address the common challenges posed by V2V communication delays or no communication from the preceding vehicle. The designed model integrates a temporal convolutional network (TCN) with the Transformer architecture block to create a sophisticated mechanism for temporal data analysis. This integration leverages the strengths of TCN in capturing spatial features and the multi-attention mechanism of Transformers to enhance the recognition of long-term dependencies in the time series of data. The synergy between these techniques not only effectively narrows the identification gap between short-term and long-term dependencies but also helps to process spatial information for accurate time-series prediction, significantly improving prediction accuracy. Simulations using the NGSIM dataset confirm the model's prediction performance over the traditional model. Further, the potential of the method to solve the communication delay problem is verified, highlighting the effectiveness of TCN and Transformer multi-attention mechanism in improving the CACC capability. © 2024 IEEE.

Federated learning provides clients with a means of collaboratively training a global model without sharing their local data, managed by a central server. However, this server cannot always be trusted, as it may act dishonestly and compromise the privacy of clients' local data. Consequently, mechanisms for privacy preservation and aggregation verification become crucial components of a secure federated learning system. In addition, support for weighted aggregation is also essential to address the challenges posed by non-IID training data. In this article, we present the Privacy-Preserving and Verifiable Weighted Aggregation (PVWA) scheme. Our approach introduces a new privacy-preserving solution by leveraging masking and homomorphic encryption techniques to protect local and global models, respectively. The masking protocol facilitates secure weighted aggregation, whereas a verification mechanism based upon homomorphic hashing and bilinear aggregated signatures ensures the correctness of aggregated results. Experimental evaluations of the performance, compared against alternative methods on two datasets, demonstrate its effectiveness and efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.
