In electroencephalography, multi-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are usually utilized to improve classification accuracy. However, a large set of EEG channels increases the computational complexity, reduces the real-time performance and causes wearability difficulties. Channel selection methods have been widely investigated to reduce the number of channels with an acceptable loss of accuracy for EEG-based motor-imagery recognition. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm, called Support Vector Machine-Canonical Correlation Analysis-Channel Selection (SVM-CCA-CS). First, the energy features of the wavelet packet subnodes of the motor-imagery EEG signals are extracted. Then the weights of feature groups are calculated as initial channel weights, based on the CCA algorithm. The initial channel weights are further adjusted, according to the contribution of each channel to the classification accuracy via SVM, and the top channels with larger weights are eventually selected. The results show that the average accuracy of all subjects can reach 80.03% by using the first 30 channels with the largest weights from among the total of 118 channels. For the right hand and foot motor-imagery tasks, the generally applicable optimal channels are mostly located in the left hemisphere. Our generally applicable channel observation of the whole brain cortex suggests contralateral control correspondence: for unilateral motor imagery, the optimal channels are concentrated in the contralateral hemisphere. This is consistent with the contralateral control of the body by the human brain: the majority of the human motor and sensory fibers tend to control the contralateral limbs and pass through the midline of the body. Our proposed method provides optimal acquisition and analysis of the positions of EEG signals in specific motor-imagery tasks. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Abstract Low-temperature carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation on silver/silica aerogel (Ag/SiO 2 AG) catalyst prepared by one-pot sol-gel synthesis followed by supercritical ethanol drying method is reported. Highly stable and sinter-proof catalyst led to easy reactant diffusion to the active sites. The Ag/SiO 2 AG catalyst showed enhanced catalytic activity toward low-temperature CO oxidation by preventing agglomeration of silver nanoparticles inside pores and facilitating well-dispersed active sites to enhance the mass heat transfer in the mesopores. Catalyst pretreatment conditions were found to play a crucial role in achieving high CO conversion efficiency at low light-off temperatures. Inverse counter-clockwise CO oxidation hysteresis was found to occur after the first run. The active sites contributing to this enhanced catalytic behavior were confirmed to be Ag 0 from XPS, XRD, and TEM analysis. The catalyst exhibited good thermal stability up to 450 ℃ over repeated number of cycles. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We live in a world where data is expanding exponentially. Most of the data is unstructured when obtained through the web. Many organizations, institutes, and governments worldwide gather public views regarding their products, services, or policies. With thousands of reviews about some product, service, or policy, it is impossible to conclude some kind of final thought from it. To handle this, there is a desperate need for a model that can extract meaningful information from data to make correct and timely decisions for the efficient growth of business and smooth running of an organization or government. Otherwise, the practice of collecting and storing data will be ineffective. In this study, we focused on conducting an extensive public survey on issues of Southern Punjab, carry out appropriate processing on collected data and predict trends in public opinion for decision-making. Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) have dealt with this problem. Different data preprocessing techniques have been utilized to remove the noise from data. Our experiments stated that unemployment, poverty, education, and corruption are the major issues of the targeted region. This study will help government officials and non-governmental organizations to be focused on the extracted issues in the specific region. © 2020 IEEE.

A New 3d Porous Metallic Carbon Allotrope Composed of 5-7 Nanoribbons as an Anode Material for Sodium-Ion Batteries

Motivated by the successful synthesis of three-dimensional (3D) graphene monoliths, tremendous effort has been devoted to the design of 3D porous metallic carbon allotropes with rich topology by assembling various nanoribbons for the anode materials of metal-ion batteries in recent years. Going beyond the allotropes reported so far we propose a new 3D carbon monolith, Hex-C57, by using 5-7 nanoribbons observed in the experiment as the building block. Hex-C57 is found to be dynamically, thermally, and mechanically stable, and electronically metallic. An analysis based on the tight-binding model reveals that the metallicity originates from the pz-orbitals of the sp2-hybridized carbon atoms, forming the conducting channels along the axial direction. With the advantages of intrinsic metallicity, mechanical ductility, and ordered pores, Hex-C57 is a promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Calculations of the electrochemical properties show that Hex-C57 possesses a high reversible gravimetric capacity (334.69 mAhg-1) and volumetric capacity (314.61 mAhcm-3), a small volume change (1.45%), very low diffusion barriers (0.046 ~ 0.070 eV), and a low average open-circuit voltage (0.18 V). This work not only expands the 3D porous carbon family with different nanoribbons as the building blocks, but also demonstrates the functionality of unconventional 5-7 carbon rings-assembled materials. © 2023, The Authors. Towards Quantum-Native Communication Systems: State-of-the-Art, Trends, and Challenges

The potential synergy between quantum communications and future wireless communication systems is explored. By proposing a quantum-native or quantum-by-design philosophy, the survey examines technologies such as quantumdomain (QD) multi-input multi-output, QD non-orthogonal multiple access, quantum secure direct communication, QD resource allocation, QD routing, and QD artificial intelligence. The recent research advances in these areas are summarized. Given the behavior of photonic and particle-like Terahertz (THz) systems, a comprehensive system-oriented perspective is adopted to assess the feasibility of using quantum communications in future systems. This survey also reviews quantum optimization algorithms and quantum neural networks to explore the potential integration of quantum communication and quantum computing in future systems. Additionally, the current status of quantum sensing, quantum radar, and quantum timing is briefly reviewed in support of future applications. The associated research gaps and future directions are identified, including extending the entanglement coherence time, developing THz quantum communications devices, addressing challenges in channel estimation and tracking, and establishing the theoretical bounds and performance tradeoffs of quantum communication, computing, and sensing. This survey offers a unique perspective on the potential for quantum communications to revolutionize future systems and pave the way for even more advanced technologies. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Enhancing utility in the watchdog privacy mechanism

This paper is concerned with enhancing data utility in the privacy watchdog method for attaining information-theoretic privacy. For a specific privacy constraint, the watchdog method filters out the high-risk data symbols through applying a uniform data regulation scheme, e.g., merging all high-risk symbols together. While this method entirely trades the symbols resolution off for privacy, we show that the data utility can be greatly improved by partitioning the high-risk symbols set and individually privatizing each subset. We further propose an agglomerative merging algorithm that finds a suitable partition of high-risk symbols: it starts with a singleton high-risk symbol, which is iteratively fused with others until the resulting subsets are private. Extracted cancer cell membrane carries the antigens of the parent tumor cell. This autologous antigen repertoire presents cancer cell membrane-derived nanoparticles highly immunogenic to the body's immune system. Cancer cell membrane-derived nanoparticles antigenically recapitulate the parental cancer cells and can be exploited to induce immune response reactive with tumor-associated antigens (TAAs). The use of the cancer cell membrane-derived nanoparticles to deliver immunostimulatory adjuvants facilitates the cross-presentation of tumor antigens by antigen-presenting cells and their costimulation, triggering potent antigen-specific T responses to eliminate established tumors. These nanoparticles can be engineered to carry immunostimulatory signals to facilitate the cross-presentation of TAAs and the induction of potent antitumor immunity. In this study, cancer cell membrane-based vesicles (CCMVs) are prepared from B16 melanoma cells and engineered to deliver the immunological agent polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (poly-IC). We show that CCMV is preferentially uptaken by bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) as compared to other cell types (macrophages, fibroblasts). The efficient delivery of poly-IC to BMDCs results in enhanced antigen cross-presenting capability of BMDCs and T-cell activation. Additionally, immunization of mice with poly-IC-carrying CCMV elicits a potent antitumor immune response. In conclusion, poly-IC-decorated tumor-derived CCMV may be used as a therapeutic vaccine to potentiate antitumor immunity. © 2022 The Authors. A comparison of the Matrix Pencil Method and the Cauchy Method is studied. The two methods both serve as natural resonant frequency extraction algorithm but is based on information in different domains. Their performances are analyzed using synthesized data and full-wave simulated data. Both methods present the capability to extract NRFs from targets. Numerical results are presented to show the similarity and differences between the two methods.

In the "Beyond Moore's Law" era, with increasing edge intelligence, domain-specific computing embracing unconventional approaches will become increasingly prevalent. At the same time, adopting a variety of nanotechnologies will offer benefits in energy cost, computational speed, reduced footprint, cyber resilience, and processing power. The time is ripe for a roadmap for unconventional computing with nanotechnologies to guide future research, and this collection aims to fill that need. The authors provide a comprehensive roadmap for neuromorphic computing using electron spins, memristive devices, two-dimensional nanomaterials, nanomagnets, and various dynamical systems. They also address other paradigms such as Ising machines, Bayesian inference engines, probabilistic computing with p-bits, processing in memory, quantum memories and algorithms, computing with skyrmions and spin waves, and brain-inspired computing for incremental learning and problem-solving in severely resource-constrained environments. These approaches have advantages over traditional Boolean computing based on von Neumann architecture. As the computational requirements for artificial intelligence grow 50 times faster than Moore's Law for electronics, more unconventional approaches to computing and signal processing will appear on the horizon, and this roadmap will help identify future needs and challenges. In a very fertile field, experts in the field aim to present some of the dominant and most promising technologies for unconventional computing that will be around for some time to come. Within a holistic approach, the goal is to provide pathways for solidifying the field and guiding future impactful discoveries. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.
