Rapid screening and optimization of CO2 enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process in unconventional reservoirs is urgently needed but challenging due to the complexity of this process and poor understanding of seepage in multiscale porous media. To address this issue, an interpretable model with high interpretability was developed to evaluate the response of CO2-EOR processes using random forest (RF) to maximize performance. The feature importance and interaction analyses were conducted to enhance the interpretability of RF model from global to local levels. The genetic algorithm (GA) was used to optimize the CO2-EOR response, and select operational parameters with a minimum CO2 injection and maximum incremental oil recovery. To validate the reliability of the method, the results of the GA-RF model were compared with numerical simulation results under the same conditions, yielding an average relative error of 5.3%. The feature importance analyses show that geological parameters such as Φ and SO have a greater impact on the oil recovery compared to operational parameters. This work represents a pioneering advancement in the rapid optimization of the CO2-EOR process in unconventional reservoirs. The developed workflow offers an efficient process for optimizing the most suitable CO2-EOR process for various types of reservoirs and provides valuable time and resource savings in the optimization. Photonic switches are crucial for optical communications, facilitating the connection and disconnection of optical signals. The demand for compact, high-speed switches has made thermally reconfigurable switches increasingly popular due to their simplicity and compatibility with various thermo-optic materials. Silicon, favored for its CMOS compatibility and cost-effectiveness, serves as an excellent base for these devices. This paper introduces a compact, efficient optical switch combining drop-cast sub-stoichiometric vanadium oxide (VO2-x) nanoparticles with a silicon ridge waveguide with a minimum extinction ratio of 7dB in the C band. The switch is characterized by a broad wavelength of operation as well as a simple and scalable fabrication methodology. The research highlights the effectiveness of VO2-x nanoparticles and silicon waveguides in creating versatile optical switches for diverse applications. © 2024 IEEE.

The high cost of using the niobium(Nb)barrier for manufacturing magnesium diboride(MgB2)mono-and multi-filamentary wires for large-scale applications has become one of the barriers to replacing current commercial niobium-titanium *** potential of replacing the Nb barrier with a low-cost iron(Fe)barrier for multifilament MgB2 superconducting wires is investigated in this ***,MgB2 wires with Fe barrier sintered with different temperatures are studied(from 650°C to 900°C for 1 h)to investigate the non-superconducting reaction phase of *** superconducting performance including engineering critical current density(Je)and n-value are tested at 4.2 K in various external magnetic *** best sample sintered at 650°C for 1 h has achieved a Je value of 3.64×10^(4) A cm^(−2) and an n-value of 61 in 2 T magnetic field due to the reduced formation of Fe2B,better grain connectivity and homogenous *** microstructural analysis,the focused ion beam(FIB)is utilised for the first time to acquire three-dimensional microstructures and elemental mappings of the interface between the Fe barrier and MgB2 core of different *** results have shown that if the sintering temperature can be controlled properly,the Je and n-value of the wire are still acceptable for magnet *** formation of Fe2B is identified along the edge of MgB2,as the temperature increases,the content of Fe2B also increases which causes the degradation in the performance of wires.

With advancements in interactive technologies, research in human-food interaction (HFI) has begun to employ interactive sound to enrich the dining experience. However, chefs' creative use of this sonic interactivity as a new "ingredient"in their culinary practices remains underexplored. In response, we conducted an empirical study with six pairs of chefs and diners utilizing SoniCream, an ice cream cone that plays digital sounds while consuming. Through exploration, creation, collaboration, and reflection, we identified four themes concerning culinary creativity, dining experience, interactive sonic gastronomy deployment, and chef-diner interplay. Building on the discussions at the intersection of these themes, we derived four design implications for creating interactive systems that could support chefs' culinary creativity, thereby enriching dining experiences. XRL-SHAP-Cache:an explainable reinforcement learning approach for intelligent edge service caching in content delivery networks

Content delivery networks(CDNs) play a pivotal role in the modern internet infrastructure by enabling efficient content delivery across diverse geographical regions. As an essential component of CDNs, the edge caching scheme directly influences the user experience by determining the caching and eviction of content on edge servers. With the emergence of 5G technology, traditional caching schemes have faced challenges in adapting to increasingly complex and dynamic network environments. Consequently, deep reinforcement learning(DRL) offers a promising solution for intelligent zero-touch network governance. However, the blackbox nature of DRL models poses challenges in understanding and making trusting decisions. In this paper,we propose an explainable reinforcement learning(XRL)-based intelligent edge service caching approach,namely XRL-SHAP-Cache, which combines DRL with an explainable artificial intelligence(XAI) technique for cache management in CDNs. Instead of focusing solely on achieving performance gains, this study introduces a novel paradigm for providing interpretable caching strategies, thereby establishing a foundation for future transparent and trustworthy edge caching solutions. Specifically, a multi-level cache scheduling framework for CDNs was formulated theoretically, with the D3QN-based caching scheme serving as the targeted interpretable model. Subsequently, by integrating Deep-SHAP into our framework, the contribution of each state input feature to the agent's Q-value output was calculated, thereby providing valuable insights into the decision-making process. This letter puts forth a new hybrid horizontal-vertical federated learning (HoVeFL) for mobile edge computing-enabled Internet of Things (EdgeIoT). In this framework, certain EdgeIoT devices train local models using the same data samples but analyze disparate data features, while the others focus on the same features using non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data samples. Thus, even though the data features are consistent, the data samples vary across devices. The proposed HoVeFL formulates the training of local and global models to minimize the global loss function. Performance evaluations on CIFAR-10 and SVHN datasets reveal that the testing loss of HoVeFL with 12 horizontal FL devices and six vertical FL devices is 5.5% and 25.2% higher, respectively, compared to a setup with six horizontal FL devices and 12 vertical FL devices. © 2019 IEEE.

Order-preserving submatrix (OPSM) is an important qualitative biclustering method of gene expression data. OPSM first sorts the expression values of gene and replaces them with corresponding column labels, and then mines the local patterns of the column label sequence set, where some rows rise and fall together under some columns. This paper proposes an order-preserving subsequence mining method (Charm_Seq) based on the Charm algorithm, and Charm_Seq makes full use of Charm’s efficient Itemset-Tidset prefix search tree to mine frequent closed patterns of column label sequence set. Meanwhile, Charm_Cla can effectively improve classification performance by restoring frequent closed sequences to training samples. Experiments were conducted on actual gene expression datasets, and the experimental results verified the efficiency and effectiveness of this method. © 2023 SPIE.

Cybersecurity education incorporates a variety of teaching methods such as traditional lectures, lectures combined with hands-on exercises, and concept maps. One of the most well-known instructional methods is the use of lectures supplemented by hands-on activities. However, often these exercises either lack a strong connect with the lecture material or invariably lead students step-by-step in predetermined tasks, thereby hindering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Hence, the instructional method falls short on providing students with a comprehensive understanding of complex and often associated cybersecurity concepts as encountered in real-world security incidents. The authors propose that a problem-based learning (PBL) approach can effectively address these gaps and improve cybersecurity education learning outcomes. This paper presents an application of PBL approach for teaching cybersecurity and ethical hacking in community colleges that play a crucial role in meeting the demand for cybersecurity professionals, but often face several challenges to effectively introduce cybersecurity concepts in their curriculum. Through this research, an existing course on ethical hacking is redesigned using the PBL pedagogy and offered to community college students. The course involves several PBL modules that are developed to cover all key aspects of ethical hacking and implemented using open-source software's. Each PBL module is based on a real-world cybersecurity incident and mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK framework. An external independent evaluation is conducted to assess the effectiveness of the proposed teaching methodology. Overall, the obtained results positively impact students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with facilitating their understanding of key cybersecurity concepts. 100% of students reported that they enjoyed the PBL exercises. 75% of the students believed that PBL enhanced their learning of key concepts to a grea

Compared to typical multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) process, 3D multimaterial printing technique has superior flexibility in the vertical axis with high accuracy. Multilayer package structure can be readily fabricated without preimpregnated (pp) layers, metal pads and etching process. Since, this article presents a broadband coupler with a quadrature phase using 3D printing technology to achieve a compact structure with an ultrathin profile. A compact broadband coupler (CBC) prototype with additional transmission lines attached to the mounting surface connections is involved for proof-of-concept. The proposed coupler covers the K and Ka bands simultaneously with a relative bandwidth of 53% and a compact size of 1.7 mm × 1.86 mm × 0.37 mm, taking advantage of the 3D-printed tight coupling lines in the vertical direction. Additionally, in broadband, the phase difference is restricted to 90±4° and the magnitude imbalance is -3.9±1.7 dB. These performances indicate that the proposed method is enforceable and viable for mm-wave package technology.
