The paper presents a search for supersymmetric particles produced in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV and decaying into final states with missing transverse momentum and jets originating from charm quarks. The data were taken with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN from 2015 to 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. No significant excess of events over the expected Standard Model background expectation is observed in optimized signal regions, and limits are set on the production cross-sections of the supersymmetric particles. Pair production of charm squarks or top squarks, each decaying into a charm quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle $$ {\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ , is excluded at 95% confidence level for squarks with masses up to 900 GeV for scenarios where the mass of $$ {\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ is below 50 GeV. Additionally, the production of leptoquarks with masses up to 900 GeV is excluded for the scenario where up-type leptoquarks decay into a charm quark and a neutrino. Model-independent limits on cross-sections and event yields for processes beyond the Standard Model are also reported.

A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions, Rτ/e = B(W → τν)/B(W → eν), is performed using a sample of W bosons originating from top-quark decays to final states containing τ-leptons or electrons. This measurement uses pp collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during Run 2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The W → τντ (with τ → eνeντ) and W → eνe decays are distinguished using the differences in the impact parameter distributions and transverse momentum spectra of the electrons. The measured ratio of branching fractions Rτ/e = 0.975 ± 0.012 (stat.) ± 0.020 (syst.), is consistent with the Standard Model assumption of lepton flavour universality in W-boson decays.

The inclusive Higgs boson production cross-section is measured in the di-photon and the $$ZZ^* \rightarrow 4 \ell $$ decay channels using 31.4 and 29.0 fb $$^{-1}$$ of pp collision data respectively, collected with the ATLAS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $$\sqrt{s}=13.6$$ $$\text {TeV}$$ . To reduce the model dependence, the measurement in each channel is restricted to a particle-level phase space that closely matches the channel’s detector-level kinematic selection, and it is corrected for detector effects. These measured fiducial cross-sections are $$\sigma _{\textrm{fid},\gamma \gamma } = $$ $$76^{+14}_{-13}$$ fb, and $$\sigma _{\textrm{fid},4 \ell } =$$ $$2.80\, \pm \, 0.74$$ fb, in agreement with the corresponding Standard Model predictions of $$67.6 \pm 3.7 $$ fb and $$3.67 \pm 0.19 $$ fb. Assuming Standard Model acceptances and branching fractions for the two channels, the fiducial measurements are extrapolated to the full phase space yielding total cross-sections of $$\sigma (pp \rightarrow H) = 67^{+12}_{-11}$$ pb and $$46 \pm 12$$ pb at 13.6 $$\text {TeV}$$ from the di-photon and $$ZZ^* \rightarrow 4 \ell $$ measurements respectively. The two measurements are combined into a total cross-section measurement of $$\sigma (pp \rightarrow H)= 58.2 \pm 8.7$$ pb, to be compared with the Standard Model prediction of $$\sigma (pp \rightarrow H)_\textrm{SM} = 59.9 \pm 2.6 $$ pb.

Measurements of the differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt $$J/\psi $$ and $$\psi (2{\textrm{S}})$$ mesons with transverse momenta between 8 and 360 GeV and rapidity in the range $$|y|<2$$ are reported. Furthermore, measurements of the non-prompt fractions of $$J/\psi $$ and $$\psi (2{\textrm{S}})$$ , and the prompt and non-prompt $$\psi (2{\textrm{S}})$$ -to- $$J/\psi $$ production ratios, are presented. The analysis is performed using 140 fb $$^{-1}$$ of $$\sqrt{s}=13$$ TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the years 2015–2018.

In human-centered intelligent building, real-time measurements of human thermal comfort play critical roles and supply feedback control signals for building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Due to the challenges of intra- and inter-individual differences and skin subtleness variations, there is no satisfactory solution for thermal comfort measurements until now. In this paper, a non-invasive measuring method based on skin sensitivity index and deep learning (NISDL) was proposed to measure real-time skin temperature. A new evaluating index, named skin sensitivity index (SSI), was defined to overcome individual differences and skin subtleness variations. To illustrate the effectiveness of SSI proposed, two multi-layers deep learning framework (NISDL method I and II) was designed and the DenseNet201 was used for extracting features from skin images. The partly personal saturation temperature (NIPST) algorithm was use for algorithm comparisons. Another deep learning algorithm without SSI (DL) was also generated for algorithm comparisons. Finally, a total of 1.44 million image data was used for algorithm validation. The results show that 55.6180% and 52.2472% error values (NISDL method I, II) are scattered at [0 °C, 0.25 °C), and the same error intervals distribution of NIPST is 35.3933%. A study of the Higgs boson decaying into bottom quarks (H → $$ b\overline{b} $$ ) and charm quarks (H → $$ c\overline{c} $$ ) is performed, in the associated production channel of the Higgs boson with a W or Z boson, using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector. The individual production of WH and ZH with H → $$ b\overline{b} $$ is established with observed (expected) significances of 5.3 (5.5) and 4.9 (5.6) standard deviations, respectively. Differential cross-section measurements of the gauge boson transverse momentum within the simplified template cross-section framework are performed in a total of 13 kinematical fiducial regions. The search for the H → $$ c\overline{c} $$ decay yields an observed (expected) upper limit at 95% confidence level of 11.5 (10.6) times the Standard Model prediction. The results are also used to set constraints on the charm coupling modifier, resulting in |κc| < 4.2 at 95% confidence level. Combining the H → $$ b\overline{b} $$ and H → $$ c\overline{c} $$ measurements constrains the absolute value of the ratio of Higgs-charm and Higgs-bottom coupling modifiers (|κc/κb|) to be less than 3.6 at 95% confidence level.

The first search for nonresonant $${{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {{\pi } ^+} {\mu ^+\mu ^-} $$ decays is reported. The analysis uses proton–proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 $$\,\text {fb} ^{-1}$$ . No evidence for an excess of signal events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction ratio $${\mathcal {B}} ({{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {{\pi } ^+} {\mu ^+\mu ^-} )/{\mathcal {B}} ({{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {{J \hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi }} {{\pi } ^+} ) < 2.1\times 10^{-4}$$ at $$90\%$$ confidence level. Additionally, an updated measurement of the ratio of the $${{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {\psi {(2S)}} {{\pi } ^+} $$ and $${{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {{J \hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi }} {{\pi } ^+} $$ branching fractions is reported. The ratio $${\mathcal {B}} ({{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {\psi {(2S)}} {{\pi } ^+} )/{\mathcal {B}} ({{B} _{c} ^+} \!\rightarrow {{J \hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi }} {{\pi } ^+} )$$ is measured to be $$0.254\pm 0.018 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.005$$ , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the leptonic $${J \hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi }$$ and $$\psi {(2S)}$$ decays. This measurement is the most precise to date and is consistent with previous LHCb results.

Flow harmonic coefficients, vn, which are the key to studying the hydrodynamics of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in heavy-ion collisions, have been measured in various collision systems and kinematic regions and using various particle species. The study of flow harmonics in a wide pseudorapidity range is particularly valuable to understand the temperature dependence of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of the QGP. This paper presents the first LHCb results of the second- and the third-order flow harmonic coefficients of charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum in the forward region, corresponding to pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.9, using the data collected from PbPb collisions in 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The coefficients measured using the two-particle angular correlation analysis method are smaller than the central-pseudorapidity measurements at ALICE and ATLAS from the same collision system but share similar features.

Comparison of Modified Kneser-Ney and Witten-Bell Smoothing Techniques in Statistical Language Model of Bahasa Indonesia

Smoothing is one technique to overcome data sparsity in statistical language model. Although in its mathematical definition there is no explicit dependency upon specific natural language, different natures of natural languages result in different effects of smoothing techniques. This is true for Russian language as shown by Whittaker[8]. In this paper, We compared Modified Kneser-Ney and Witten-Bell smoothing techniques in statistical language model of Bahasa Indonesia. We used train sets of totally 22M words that we extracted from Indonesian version of Wikipedia. As far as we know, this is the largest train set used to build statistical language model for Bahasa Indonesia. The experiments with 3-gram, 5-gram, and 7-gram showed that Modified Kneser-Ney consistently outperforms Witten-Bell smoothing technique in term of perplexity values. It is interesting to note that our experiments showed 5-gram model for Modified Kneser-Ney smoothing technique outperforms that of 7-gram. Meanwhile, Witten-Bell smoothing is consistently improving over the increase of n-gram order. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A measurement of the top quark pair ( $$ \textrm{t}\overline{\textrm{t}} $$ ) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV is presented. The data were collected at the LHC in autumn 2017, in dedicated runs with low-energy and low-intensity conditions with respect to the default configuration, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 302 pb−1. The measurement is performed using events with one electron or muon, and multiple jets, at least one of them being identified as originating from a b quark (b tagged). Events are classified based on the number of all reconstructed jets and of b-tagged jets. Multivariate analysis techniques are used to enhance the separation between the signal and backgrounds. The measured cross section is $$ 62.5\pm 1.6{\left(\textrm{stat}\right)}_{-2.5}^{+2.6}\left(\textrm{syst}\right)\pm 1.2\left(\textrm{lumi}\right) $$ pb. A combination with the result in the dilepton channel based on the same data set yields a value of 62.3 ± 1.5 (stat) ± 2.4 (syst) ± 1.2 (lumi) pb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of $$ {69.5}_{-3.7}^{+3.5} $$ pb at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
