Recovery from a catastrophic seismic event is dependent on multiple aspects involving resilience capacity. Disaster Risk Reduction management includes the development of policies focused on the preparedness to overcome the challenges associated with the response capacity in a post-disaster scenario, which contemplate the distribution of available resources to recover from the damaged state. This paper presents a simplified methodology to estimate the maximum repair time using the distribution of resources according to the workforce population available in a particular zone. The process involves two risk metrics: “average annual repair time” and the “workforce population capacity”, which in addition to the defined scenarios lead to its estimation based on the required size of a crew member as a simplified tool for policymakers to set threshold limits. Therefore, three case studies are presented to evaluate its applicability and sensitivity: (1) iterating a set of different intervention strategies directed to a single building typology of school buildings;(2) the effect of variating the story-height for the same archetypical building;and (3) the impact of variating the number and distribution of the crew members for a unique archetypical building. The results expose the efficiency of the method employing the risk metrics, as well as the sensitivity of the methodology through the simplified resilience index, using a threshold repair time. Finally, the outputs confirm the significant difference between the average annual repair time and the probable maximum repair time metrics within the presented case studies, which seriously affect the final threshold limits proposed by policymakers. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Enterprise systems are among the information technology (IT) solutions aimed at transforming the organization's business processes. This IT investment has been considered a major cost among organizations hoping to streamline business processes and maintain competitive advantage. Implementing IT solutions such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) system has become an inevitable action to have an efficient business process. Specifically, this study seeks to put forward the question, “How does ERP implementation influence business process innovation?”. Using the lens of dynamic capability, a qualitative case study in the pharmaceutical industry was conducted tracing the stages and experiences of the ERP implementation. The findings confirmed that there is a revolutionary transformation of the business process brought about by the ERP system implementation. Moreover, this study identified factors enabling and transforming the business process. The case site illustrates an example of a business process innovation that can be used as a reference for companies adopting an ERP system as an IT solution.

Wind speed (WS) has played a vital role in local urban and sub-urban weather, agriculture, and ecosystem. Several meteorological parameters are influencing WS such as relative humidity (at 2 m, %), surface pressure (kPa), maximum temperature (at 2 m, °C), minimum temperature (at 2 m, °C), average temperature (at 2 m, °C), and all sky insolation incident on a horizontal surface (kW-h/m2/day). The current research was conducted to predict WS at different locations at Vietnam using the feasibility of computer aid models (i.e., multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest generator (Ranger)). Pearson correlation (PC) was investigated to select the high significant predictors to predict the WS at 10 m high. All inputs (maximum number, 6) are chosen by the PC approach for PhuongNinh, DaNang, and HaNoi;and for minimum number of inputs i.e four, are selected for PhuongHung, CanTho, and SaPa city;that exhibit the relationship with WS, citywise. The sequence selection of input parameters differed in each station as per the PC analysis. Based on the statistical evaluation and graphical presentation, MARS model attained the best prediction results, followed by XGBoost and Ranger. MARS predictive model remains at the top performance among others based on 95% confidence interval. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Internet of Vehicles (IoV) has become an indispensable data sensing and processing platform in Internet of Things (IoT) for intelligent transportation. The mounted cameras on the vehicles along with the fixed roadside cameras are utilized to provide pictorial services for IoV users and law enforcement agencies. For such forensic services, ensuring the security and privacy of vehicles while guaranteeing the efficiency of data transmission among vehicles is important. In this paper, we propose a lightweight incentive authentication scheme (LIAS) for forensic services in IoV. LIAS is developed on a three-tier architecture containing cloud layer, fog layer, and user layer. LIAS uses pairing-free certificateless signcryption, pseudonym update mechanism, and incentive mechanism to realize a secure anonymous authentication efficiently. We conduct correctness and security analysis, as well as performance analysis and evaluation to validate the high security and efficiency of LIAS. Experimental results reveal that, the communication and computation overheads as well as the message delay and packet loss of LIAS are much lower than those of state-of-the-art techniques. Note to Practitioners - This paper is motivated by the security and privacy issues of forensic services in IoV for intelligent transportation. Our goal is to improve the security and privacy of vehicles while guaranteeing the lightweight and incentive of data transmission among the vehicles. Fog-assisted IoV is introduced to fully utilize the capacities of near-user edge devices as well as the connections between fog nodes and devices. However, it still faces the difficulties in ensuring vehicles' security and privacy. Moreover, vehicles' information dissemination could be easily monitored because of the unavoidable defect of wireless communication. Thereby, it is essential to guarantee the security and privacy of vehicles while enhancing the efficiency of vehicles' data transmission during the forensic service.

In pursuit of carbon neutrality, a swift transformation is underway in the global energy structure, marked by a consistent rise in the installed capacity of solar energy systems. Meanwhile, the substantial reduction of government subsidies in the solar industry intensifies focus on the economic viability of solar energy installations. In this study, we propose a full life-cycle cost model, named the F-LCC model, for calculating the cost of the solar energy system on the long term, e.g., 20–30 years. This model integrates replacement costs, residual value calculation, interest rate, and inflation impacts while supporting market price estimation for individual components, thereby aiding feasibility analysis in the early project phase. We design an investment cost recovery algorithm based on the F-LCC model to calculate the break-even electricity price for solar energy system. Moreover, we analyze component cost distributions, Net Present Value (NPV), and Discounted Payback Period (DPP) for grid-connected and off-grid solar energy systems with capacities of 10 kWp and 100 kWp in the Chinese market. The results show that the proposed model, compared to other models, captures the fact that payback times are longer. In a solar energy system without storage, solar panels have the highest component cost share at 28.8%. With battery storage, batteries dominate the total cost, reaching up to 74.6%. And the the grid-connected systems DPP ranging from a minimum of 5.5 to a maximum of 7.0 years by grid-connected electricity price, while off-grid systems require at least 19.9 years. The 10 kWp off-grid fixed mounting system’s break-even price being 137.1% higher than its grid-connected counterpart. In addition, tracking-mount systems offer greater cost-reduction potential than fixed installations, with the payback period reduced by 20% for 100 kWp grid-connected systems and 15% for off-grid systems. Delay-Driven Layer Assignment Algorithm Based on Integrating Multi-Strategy for Advanced Technology Nodes

By introducing layer assignment algorithm, it can effectively optimize multiple important indicators such as delay and via counts in physical design, and then improve the chip performance. Therefore, a delay optimization layer assignment algorithm integrating multiple strategies is proposed, which considers both non-default-rule wire and coupling effect. First, aiming at the problem that the difference of nets is not carefully considered in the previous work, the differentiated net strategy is proposed. Second, in order to solve the problem of unreasonable evaluation of grid edge congestion in previous work, the segment classifying strategy is proposed. Third, aiming at the problem that the existing work pays more attention to consider congestion constraint when reassigning illegal nets, which leads to high delay of routing results, an effective reassignment and adjustment strategy is proposed. Finally, aiming at the problem of unreasonable routing order in the previous work, a variety of novel methods to determine the routing order are designed, and then a multi-objective driven sorting strategy is proposed. The algorithm runs in the Linux environment with a 2.60 GHz CPU and 64 GB of RAM. The validation experiments use the DAC12 circuit, and the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively optimize both delay and via counts without overflow. © 2024 Institute of computing Technology. Game system models introduce abstractions over games in order to support their analysis, generation, and design. While excellent, models to date leave tacit what they abstract over, why they are ontologically adequate, and how they would be realized in the engine underlying the game. In this paper we model these abstraction gaps via the first-order modal µcalculus. We use it to reify the link between engines to our game interaction model, a player-computer interaction framework grounded in the Game Ontology Project. Through formal derivation and justification, we contend our work is a useful code studies perspective that affords better understanding the semantics underlying game system models in general. Self-Supervised Node Representation Learning via Node-to-Neighbourhood Alignment

Self-supervised node representation learning aims to learn node representations from unlabelled graphs that rival the supervised counterparts. The key towards learning informative node representations lies in how to effectively gain contextual information from the graph structure. In this work, we present simple-yet-effective self-supervised node representation learning via aligning the hidden representations of nodes and their neighbourhood. Our first idea achieves such node-to-neighbourhood alignment by directly maximizing the mutual information between their representations, which, we prove theoretically, plays the role of graph smoothing. Our framework is optimized via a surrogate contrastive loss and a Topology-Aware Positive Sampling (TAPS) strategy is proposed to sample positives by considering the structural dependencies between nodes, which enables offline positive selection. Considering the excessive memory overheads of contrastive learning, we further propose a negative-free solution, where the main contribution is a Graph Signal Decorrelation (GSD) constraint to avoid representation collapse and over-smoothing. The GSD constraint unifies some of the existing constraints and can be used to derive new implementations to combat representation collapse. By applying our methods on top of simple MLP-based node representation encoders, we learn node representations that achieve promising node classification performance on a set of graph-structured datasets from small-to large-scale.
