Since the digital technologies emerge, digital heritage has become an integral part of the world's cultural heritage under the leadership of UNESCO. With the development of digitization and accumulation of data, the digital information processing system for cultural heritage keeps updating. However, there still exist the problems of low information integration degree and weak information sharing ability, severely restricting the promotion and integration of cultural heritage and society. This paper proposes a digital cultural heritage cloud platform, where basic data service, knowledge service, engineering application, visual exhibition were realized through HTTP request. This platform completely encapsulated a large number of cultural heritage data processing algorithms. Accordingly, a cultural heritage data management system, a cultural heritage knowledge construction and application system, a cultural heritage display, analysis and evaluation system, and a cultural heritage microenvironment index monitoring system were embedded in this platform. In addition, the platform provided API for professional customized development to provide effective support. The construction industry faces increasingly more significant pressure to reduce resource consumption, minimise waste, and enhance environmental performance. Towards the transition to a circular economy in the construction industry, one of the challenges is the lack of a standardised assessment framework and methods to measure circularity at the product level. To support a more sustainable and circular construction industry through robust and enhanced scenario analysis, this paper integrates probabilistic analysis into the coupled assessment framework;this research addresses uncertainties associated with multiple criteria and diverse stakeholders in the construction industry to enable more robust decision-making support on both circularity and sustainability performance. By demonstrating the application in three real-world MMC products, the proposed framework offers a novel approach to simultaneously assess the circularity and sustainability of MMC products with robustness and objectiveness. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper presents a pioneering experimental proof-of-concept study to validate a novel concept of prestress technology that used only pure bio-based composite materials while achieved consistent prestressed stress distribution within the structure member, and provided in-situ flexibility, improved structural performance, and maximised the rate of utilisation of each material. Industrial level of facilities were used during this development. The prestress is achieved by pressurised/forced lamination of multiple components with different materials and geometrical properties. The prestressing process is activated during the pressure release stage during which the components are interacting with each other, creating different stress statuses that would favour the weaker and adverse the stronger components to maximise the strength exploitation of different materials. Using laminated bamboo and timber as an example pair, twenty-two glulam, non-prestressed and prestressed laminated bamboo-timber composite beams were manufactured, tested, and analysed to provide an in-depth understanding of the structural behaviours of these novel structural members. Failure modes, yielding, ultimate and serviceability limit loads, and corresponding deflections, as well as the histories of strain development at key positions of the specimens were examined. The experimental study confirmed the feasibility, effectiveness and industrial scalability of the proposed technology. The novel concept provides a new approach for developing the prestress technology for bio-based materials, and this experimental study laid the foundation for its future analytical development and numerical studies. © 2023, CC BY.

Application of a variational hybrid quantum-classical algorithm to heat conduction equation

The prosperous development of both hardware and algorithms for quantum computing (QC) potentially prompts a paradigm shift in scientific computing in various fields. As an increasingly active topic in QC, the variational quantum algorithm (VQA) leads a promising tool for solving partial differential equations on Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices. Although a clear perspective on the advantages of QC over classical computing techniques for specific mathematical and physical problems exists, applications of QC in computational fluid dynamics to solve practical flow problems, though promising, are still in an early stage of development. To explore QC in practical simulation of flow problems, this work applies a variational hybrid quantum-classical algorithm, namely the variational quantum linear solver (VQLS), to resolve the heat conduction equation through finite difference discretization of the Laplacian operator. Details of VQLS implementation are discussed by various test instances of linear systems. Finally, the successful statevector simulations of the heat conduction equation in one and two dimensions demonstrate the validity of the present algorithm by proof-of-concept results. In addition, the heuristic scaling for the heat conduction problem indicates that the time complexity of the present approach is logarithmically dependent on the precision Ε and linearly dependent on the number of qubits n. There are numerous ranking systems that provide web rankings for colleges and universities around the world. The aim of this paper is to present the findings of SEO audit and analysis of 34 HEI websites in Oman in terms of web presence and impact. The study used the SEO audit metrics-domain authority score, linking root domain, ranking keywords, and spam score which are provided by Moz. The findings revealed that only one (1) HEI has achieved a good quality for domain authority while all the others have obtained a low quality only for domain authority. The same HEI has scored high on the linking root domains and ranking keywords. However, 24 % of the HEIs have attained a zero spam score while 76% of the HEIs have attained a low spam score. The study recommends that HEIs should exert more efforts in improving their SEO to increase visibility and impact on the web. © 2020 IEEE.

Transfer Learning via Test-Time Neural Networks Aggregation

It has been demonstrated that deep neural networks outperform traditional machine learning. However, deep networks lack generalisability, that is, they will not perform as good as in a new (testing) set drawn from a different distribution due to the domain shift. In order to tackle this known issue, several transfer learning approaches have been proposed, where the knowledge of a trained model is transferred into another to improve performance with different data. However, most of these approaches require additional training steps, or they suffer from catastrophic forgetting that occurs when a trained model has overwritten previously learnt knowledge. We address both problems with a novel transfer learning approach that uses network aggregation. We train dataset-specific networks together with an aggregation network in a unified framework. The loss function includes two main components: a task-specific loss (such as cross-entropy) and an aggregation loss. The proposed aggregation loss allows our model to learn how trained deep network parameters can be aggregated with an aggregation operator. We demonstrate that the proposed approach learns model aggregation at test time without any further training step, reducing the burden of transfer learning to a simple arithmetical operation. The proposed approach achieves comparable performance w.r.t. the baseline. Besides, if the aggregation operator has an inverse, we will show that our model also inherently allows for selective forgetting, i.e., the aggregated model can forget one of the datasets it was trained on, retaining information on the *** Codes 68T07 © 2022, CC BY.

RISC-NN: Use RISC, NOT CISC as Neural Network Hardware Infrastructure

Neural Networks (NN) have been proven to be powerful tools to analyze Big Data. However, traditional CPUs cannot achieve the desired performance and/or energy efficiency for NN applications. Therefore, numerous NN accelerators have been used or designed to meet these goals. These accelerators all fall into three categories: GPGPUs, ASIC NN Accelerators and CISC NN Accelerators. GPGPUs achieve general purpose and high computing throughput, but cannot provide desired energy efficiency because their stream architecture cannot achieve efficient data reuse required by NN applications. ASIC NN Accelerators achieve best performance or energy efficiency through advanced data reuse optimization, however, they only support limited NN use cases. CISC NN Accelerators aim to achieve both general purpose and high energy efficiency by decomposing NN applications into multiple relatively simple matrix or vector CISC instructions. Though CISC NN Accelerators can achieve considerable smaller memory footprint than GPGPU thus improve energy efficiency;they still fail to provide same level of data reuse optimization achieved by ASIC NN Accelerators because of the inherited poor pragrammability of their CISC architecture. We argue that, for NN Accelerators, RISC is a better design choice than CISC, as is the case with general purpose processors. We propose RISC-NN, a novel many-core RISC-based NN accelerator that achieves high expressiveness and high parallelism and features strong programmability and low control-hardware costs. We show that, RISC-NN can implement all the necessary instructions of state-of-the-art CISC NN Accelerators;in the meantime, RISC-NN manages to achieve advanced optimization such as multiple-level data reuse and support for Sparse NN applications which previously only existed in ASIC NN Accelerators. In order to investigate the characteristics of drivers’ eye movements during distracted driving caused by mobile phone conversation and establish a driving distraction discriminant model, a driving simulation experiment was conducted. The eye movement index data were collected by eye tracker under different traffic scenes which include normal driving and perform simple or complex conversation secondary task on the urban road and freeway, then the variance analysis was used to analyze the characteristics. Finally, according to the characteristics of drivers’ eye movements, a driving distraction discriminant model based on fisher discriminant analysis was constructed for different road types. The ANOVA results showed that the effectiveness of road type and conversation task on the cumulative proportion of the driver’s focus on the area of interest in the front road is not statistically significant. However, the average duration of the driver’s attention under urban road scene is significantly higher than that of the freeway, and with the increasing of difficulty of driving task, the average duration of attention increased significantly. In addition, the road type and conversation task significantly influenced the change range of pupil area. The accuracy rate of the discriminant model is 75.2% for the driving distraction on urban roads, and 78.3% for the distraction on freeway. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Peru is located within the seismically active "Pacific Ring of Fire" and therefore is constantly affected by the dynamic interaction of the Nazca and South American Plates. Due to its location, over the past centuries, devastating earthquakes have hit the country, generating substantial economic and human losses, leading to a constant need to overcome and enhance human safety and building integrity through advanced strategies to mitigate seismic risk. This practice has worldwide been cataloged as "Disaster Risk Reduction Management", which involves a deeper comprehension and representation of the seismic hazard for the assessment of the existing buildings and infrastructure, which often deviates from the practices behind seismic design standards. In this study, a novel approach is proposed to assess seismic hazards at a city-size level. It employs uniform hazard spectra calculated through a comprehensive probabilistic hazard assessment framework. The methodology considered a vast earthquake catalog comprising 22,399 events, 33 earthquake source models derived from previous research, six ground motion prediction models, and five return periods, applied to 25 cities. To address the uncertainties associated with the correctness and accuracy of the results, they were evaluated using a rigorous selection criterion through a logic tree-based weighting system. This accounts for soil classification and fault activity clustered by inter-slab, crustal and intra-slab earthquakes. The findings revealed the specific fault segments influencing the seismic activity for every analyzed city, and also determined if they were in proximity or within the same seismic hazard zone stated within the design standard. This approach can be extended looking forward towards establishing a more reliable seismic hazard comprehension based on local activity, offering valuable insights for the performance-based assessments of existing structures and for the formulation of preparedness policies. © 2
