Due to the short wavelength of millimeter wave (mmWave) and high directional beamforming, the massive MIMO systems are highly vulnerable to link blockage. Beam switching to unblocked direction is an effective solution to overcome blockage and restore communication links. To this end, a set of candidate beams for beam switching should be selected before the beam is blocked. However, due to the high speed movement of the UAV, identifying the appropriate beam for an UAV with any position is not trivial. In this work, a fast link recovery approach is proposed. Specifically, our proposed beam selection method considers the spatial correlation, estimated reliability probability of the beams and signal quality. The simulation results show that the proposed method can efficiently recover the interrupted link, and the outage probability is almost reduced to 0% in the scene where the UAV moves at high speed.

As the development of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) technology rapidly advances, learning in an artificial immersive environment becomes increasingly feasible. Such emerging technology not only facilitates and promotes an efficient learning process, but also reduces the cost of access to learning materials and environments. Current research mainly focuses on the development of immersive learning environments and the adaptive learning methods based on interactions between trainees and the environment. However, valuable human biometric data available in immersive environments, such as eye gaze and controller pose, have not been explored and utilized to help understand the affective state of the trainees. In this paper, we propose a machine-learning based research framework to estimate trainees' confidence about their decisions in immersive learning environments. Using this framework, we designed an experiment to collect biometric data from a multiple-choice question and answer session in an immersive learning environment. This includes collecting answers from 10 participants on 35 questions and their self-reported confidence in their answers. A Long Short-Term Memory neural network model was used to analyze the data and estimate the confidence with 85.6% accuracy.

Infrastructure has significant impacts on economy, society and environment, which is called "sustainable contribution" in this study. However, the infrastructure is poor in Chinese townships especially in mountainous regions as the result of limited funds. There are still many types of infrastructure in townships while impossible to invest at the same time. The degree and angle of contribution are different according to different infrastructure. So, in this study, the most important infrastructures were extracted and a general index system for assessing their sustainable contribution was set up, which will benefit to make more appropriate decision on infrastructure investment with limited financial capacity.

Periodic satellite orbits of the Broucke-Hadjidemetriou-Hénon family of three-body system with unequal masses

Triple systems are common and key objects in astronomy. The three-body problem has received much more attention in recent years1–3. All observed periodic triple stars systems4–6 belong to the Broucke-Hadjidemetriou-Hénon’s (BHH) family7–9. The BHH orbits are a family of periodic orbits of the three-body system with the simplest topological free group word10 a, while Janković and Dmitrašinović 1 gained 58 equal-mass BHH satellite orbits which have free group words ak (k > 1), where k is the topological exponent. However, the BHH satellite orbits with equal mass is lack of realistic meaning because they do not exist in practice. Here we present 419743 new BHH orbits and 179253 new BHH satellites (k > 1) for three-body system with unequal mass. Especially, 48761 among the 179253 new BHH satellites are stable and have unequal masses. It suggests that these 48761 stable BHH satellites could be found by the observation. Besides, for the three-body system with equal mass at a fixed energy, it was demonstrated that the relationship between the angular momentum (L) and topological scaled period (T/k) of the BHH satellites is the same as that of the BHH orbits1. However, we found that this does not hold for the three-body system with unequal mass. Our findings have broad impact for the astrophysical scenario: they could inspire the theoretical and observational study of the triple system, the formation of triple stars11, the gravitational waves pattern12 and the gravitational waves observation13 of the triple system. © 2020, CC BY.

The Broucke-Hadjidemetriou-Hénon’s (BHH) orbits are a family of periodic orbits of the three-body system with the simplest topological free group word a, while the BHH satellites have free group words ak (k > 1), where k is the topological exponent. Janković and Dmitrašinović [Phy. Rev. Lett. 116, 064301 (2016)] reported 57 new BHH satellites with equal mass and found that at a fixed energy the relationship between the angular momentum (L) and the topologically rescaled period (T/k) is the same for both of the BHH orbits (k = 1) and the BHH satellites (k > 1). In this letter, we report 419,743 new BHH orbits (k = 1) and 179,253 new BHH satellites (k > 1) of the three-body system with unequal mass, which have never been reported, to the best of our knowledge. Among these newly-found 598,996 BBH orbits and satellites, about 33.5% (i.e., 200,686) are linearly stable and thus many among them might be observed in practice. Besides, we discover that, for the three-body system with unequal mass at a fixed energy, relationship between the angular momentum (L) and topologically rescaled period (T/k) of the BHH satellites (k > 1) is different from that of the BHH orbits (k = 1). Degradation analysis and optimization of temperature effect on MEMRISTOR-based Neural Network Accelerators by electro-thermal simulation

Nowadays, memristor-based neural network accelerators have been widely studied due to their outstanding performance in massive parallel vector matrix multiplication. However, the memristor is sensitive to temperature and its on/off state operation window can be seriously degraded by the increasing temperature, which may lead to computation failures in memristor -based NN accelerators. In this work, we establish an electro-thermal simulation platform to evaluate the temperature impact on memristor -based NN accelerators. With this platform, we first investigate the impact on computation accuracy with the temperature increase in different NN layers in the accelerators. We then apply a temperature-aware NN weight mapping scheme to the most temperature-sensitive layer and achieve 28.89% improvement in computation accuracy, which only has 0.06% difference with the improvement achieved by applied the mapping scheme to the whole NN model. This finding can help to simplify the temperature-aware hardware optimization design in memristor-based neural network accelerators and reduce the power consumption.

The increasing anthropogenic and industrial activities have led to widespread contamination of water resources. Among the various pollutants, excess fluoride in water poses a global environmental and public health challenge due to its toxicity and persistence. To address this challenge, Ce and La loaded the residue of leaching aluminium from gangue were synthesized as adsorbents (Ce-La@LR) for the removal of fluoride ion (F − ) from water. The as-prepared samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to examine the effects of Ce-La loading, adsorbent dosage, initial solution pH, and the presence of coexisting ions on fluoride adsorption. The results indicated that fluoride removal efficiency exceeded 95 % at a 15 % Ce-La loading, pH value of 5, and an adsorbent dosage of 0.1 g/L. The adsorption kinetics of fluoride ion (F − ) on Ce-La@LR were best described by the proposed second-order kinetics, with a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.9997, suggesting that chemical adsorption plays a significant role in the fluoride removal process. The isotherm data were fitted to the Langmuir model, revealing a maximum adsorption capacity of 56.81 mg/g. Except for carbonate (CO 3 2− ) and phosphate (PO 4 3− ) ions, the influence of other ions was negligible for the adsorption of F − on the Ce-La@LR. The possible adsorption mechanism of fluoride ion removal on the Ce-La@LR involves electrostatic attraction and ion exchange. This research not only offers an effective solution for treating mine water but also presents a novel approach for resource recovery from coal mine waste.

Based on the torsional plane strain model and tapered fictitious soil pile model, the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile considering stress diffusion effect of pile end soil is investigated theoretically. Considering the coupling conditions of pile-soil system, the torsional impedance at the tapered pile head is obtained by means of Laplace transform and impedance transfer method. A parametric study is performed, the rationality of the tapered fictitious soil model is verified and the influence of the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile embedded in layered soil is studied. The results show that: the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile has obvious effect on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile with the shorter length. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

We develop and implement a formalism which enables calculating the analytical gradients of particle-hole random-phase approximation (RPA) ground-state energy with respect to the atomic positions within the atomic orbital basis set framework. Our approach is based on a localized resolution of identity (LRI) approximation for evaluating the two-electron Coulomb integrals and their derivatives, and the density functional perturbation theory for computing the first-order derivatives of the Kohn-Sham (KS) orbitals and orbital energies. Our implementation allows one to relax molecular structures at the RPA level using both Gaussian-type orbitals (GTOs) and numerical atomic orbitals (NAOs). Benchmark calculations show that our approach delivers high numerical precision compared to previous implementations. A careful assessment of the quality of RPA geometries for small molecules reveals that post-KS RPA systematically overestimates the bond lengths. We furthermore optimized the geometries of the four low-lying water hexamers – cage, prism, cyclic and book isomers, and determined the energy hierarchy of these four isomers using RPA. The obtained RPA energy ordering is in good agreement with that yielded by the coupled cluster method with single, double and perturbative triple excitations, despite that the dissociation energies themselves are appreciably underestimated. The underestimation of the dissociation energies by RPA is well corrected by the renormalized single excitation correction. © 2021, CC BY.
