In this paper a novel approach for modelling Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problem in wavelength-routed Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) optical networks is proposed. A new idea based on Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm is introduced for solving RWA problem which is known to be an NP-hard problem. In the proposed ABC-RWA approach every food source represents a possible and feasible lightpath between each original and destination node pair in demand matrix. The positions of food sources are modified by some artificial bees in the population where the aim is to discover the places of food sources. The food source with the highest nectar value seems to be a solution which is evaluated by the fitness function. The simulation results demonstrate the ability and efficiency of proposed approach for solving RWA in real-world optical networks. The proposed approach could be extended for dynamic RWA schemes in real-time applications and employed by network resilience architectures.

In this paper an application of intelligent systems for optical networks design is proposed. The Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) in Dense-Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing (DWDM) optical networks under dynamic traffic patterns is addressed. We mainly focus on how to apply Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm to solve dynamic RWA problem by minimizing the blocking probability for a sequence of arrival connection requests subject to total number of wavelengths in optical network and wavelength continuity constraints. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed ABC based DRWA algorithm has better performance in reducing the blocking probability comparing to Fixed-alternate routing algorithm.

In contrast with public clouds, private clouds have some unique features, especially when related to workflow scheduling. Of course, the tradeoff problem between power and performance remains to be one of the key concerns. Based on our previous research, in this paper, we propose a hybrid energy-efficient scheduling algorithm using dynamic migration. The experiments show that it can not only reduce the response time, conserve more energy, but also achieve higher level of load balancing.
With further development and wide acceptance of cloud computing, lots of companies and colleges decide to take advantage of it in their own data centers, which is known as private clouds. Since private clouds have som...

In the healthcare domain, a profusion of workflows are utilised and lots of implicit knowledge is used by domain experts in their daily activities. Ontologies can facilitate the personalized construction of care workflows (care flows) and guide their management in contingency cases, thus allowing them to deviate from their standard prescribed static definition. In this paper we propose a formalization of workflow to automatically adapt the process of homecare for elderly people. We use an ontology of Business Process Modeling Notations(BPMN) associated with both Actor and Case Profile Ontologies to dynamically build flexible care flows capable of guiding the continuity of care.

This paper first analyzes the current gap in the literature in security assurance. It then proposes new metrics for the appraisal of security assurance at runtime. Our metrics are based on key concepts pertinent to gaining confidence on a security mechanism to meet its functions. Such parameters include: security correctness; security effectiveness and the quality of the security verification process. Validation of our approach has been achieved through tool implementation, and application to another of security components including firewall, DNS and antivirus.
