The impact of the three-dimensional greening index on pedestrian thermal comfort in summer street canyons

Trees have been proven to be an effective measure for improving thermal comfort in urban street *** height(CH)and tree coverage ratio(TCR)are key factors for shading and cooling ***,the combined effect of these factors on PET from a three-dimensional perspective remains *** study,using both field measurements and ENVI-met simulations,quantified the independent impacts of 102 tree planting strategies on pavement shading and PET.A three-dimensional greening index(3DGI)was further introduced to quantify the combined effects of these *** results showed that the independent contribution of trees to shading primarily reduces radiative heat transfer,alleviating thermal *** thermal environment on both sides of the street exhibited significant heterogeneity,with the greatest contribution to shading observed on the north side of E-W street *** on these findings,the study proposed optimized tree planting strategies for different street orientations and provided the suitable 3DGI ranges for each street orientation,such as 536.30-548.95 for the east side of N-S street *** study recommends prioritizing evergreen trees with greater CH,and adjusting TCR to ensure tree planting strategies on both sides are within the appropriate 3DGI *** research will further expand the application of 3DGI,integrating different climatic conditions and time scales to enhance urban residents'thermal comfort and improve their quality of life.

Transgenic plants are extensively utilized in research,enabling scientists to explore gene functions in controlled environments,leading to crops with higher productivity and greater resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors(Oyebamiji et al.,2024).Traditional transgene integration techniques,such as particle bombardment and Agrobacterium T-DNA integration,often lead to unintended mutations and unpredictable insertion sites,emphasizing the necessity for developing targeted transgene integration(Ahuja and Fladung,2014).Current methods for targeted transgene integration,like homologous recombination(HR)and CRISPR-Cas,including their variants like prime editing and homology-directed repair(HDR),face challenges due to low integration efficiency and high deletion rates,hampering their practical application in crop genetic engineering(Dong and Ronald,2021;Tzfira and Citovsky,2006).

Background The urban green infrastructure(GI)network is an important conduit for ecological fows and plays a crucial role in improving regional habitats,especially in karst areas that are highly ecologically fragile and ***,the existing research only focuses on the construction of GI network in karst mountain cities,and the evolution characteristics of its elements and driving mechanism are not clear,which is of great signifcance for guiding urban land use planning and comprehensively improving the quality of the ecological *** view of this,this study took Qianzhong urban agglomeration as the study area,based on multi-source data,and identifed ecological sources through ecological resilience *** the special geographic environment,the rock exposure rate factor was added to correct the resistance surface,and the minimum cumulative resistance(MCR)and gravity model were coupled to extract the GI *** complex network topology characterization parameter was introduced to assess the spatial and temporal variations of ecological sources and ***,the geographical detector was used to identify the dominant infuencing factors and interactions of the spatial distribution of the GI *** The results showed that from 2000 to 2020,the condition of GI network elements in the study area presented a decreasing and then an increasing *** ecological sources or corridors in highly urbanized areas were critical for ecological fow transport and the overall structural stability of the GI *** infuence of natural factors on the spatial distribution of the GI network gradually weakened,and the infuence of human factors continuously *** spatial distribution of the GI network was infuenced by multiple factors,and the interaction between all the factors was enhanced,which gradually changed from the interaction of natural factors to the interaction of human factors during the study *** T

Energy feedback systems are becoming increasingly common in homes, offering real-time insights into consumption patterns through in-home displays, web portals, and mobile apps. While these systems have shown potential in raising awareness and encouraging energy-efficient behaviors, their impact within social housing—where fuel poverty and energy insecurity are significant concerns—remains relatively underexplored. This review examines the potential economic and social benefits of Real-Time Energy Feedback (RTEF) systems in social housing, identifying both opportunities and challenges. Existing literature tends to emphasize direct outcomes such as energy savings and awareness. However, our findings suggest that these tools have untapped potential beyond utilitarianism. When combined with renewable energy sources like solar photovoltaics (PV), RTEF systems not only increase energy savings but also foster greater household participation in the energy transition. This positions them as key enablers of energy citizenship in decentralized energy systems. We recommend further research to explore the broader social impacts of RTEF systems, especially within the context of renewable energy integration in social housing, and to assess their critical role in facilitating the energy transition and shifting energy consumption paradigms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Lily(Lilium spp.) is an important ornamental flower, which is mainly propagated by bulbs. Cell wall invertases(CWINs), which catalyze the irreversibly conversion of sucrose into glucose and fructose in the extracellular space, are key enzymes participating in sucrose allocation in higher plants. Previous studies have shown that CWINs play an essential role in bulblet initiation process in bulbous crops, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. Here, a CWIN gene of Lilium brownii var. giganteum(Lbg) was identified and amplified from genomic DNA. Quantitative RT-PCR assays revealed that the expression level of LbgCWIN1 was highly upregulated exactly when the endogenous starch degraded in non-sucrose medium during in vitro bulblet initiation in Lbg. Phylogenetic relationship, motif, and domain analysis of LbgCWIN1 protein and CWINs in other plant species showed that all sequences of these CWIN proteins were highly conserved. The promoter sequence of LbgCWIN1 possessed a number of alpha-amylase-, phytohormone-, light-and stress-responsive cis-elements. Meanwhile, β-glucuronidase(GUS) assay showed that the 459 bp upstream fragment from the translational start site displayed maximal promoter activity. These results revealed that LbgCWIN1 might function in the process of in vitro bulblet initiation and be in the response to degradation of endogenous starch.

Historical imaginaries, historic urban branding, and the local state in China: rejuvenation discourse, manufactured heritage and simulacrascapes

This intervention examines the extant literature on historical imaginaries and historic urban branding in *** suggests that while research in this field has increasingly moved away from an economic(or an implicit neo-Marxist)model,there is still a lack of research on the role of broader cultural and state led discourses of nationalism in the construction of historic urban imaginaries and historic urban branding within Chinese *** unpacking one nationalistic discourse a-narrative of rejuvenation-this article argues that more needs to be done to examine the role of these themes in the construction of historical imaginaries at the level of the local state(including related state networks of developers,retailers,tourist officials,town planners,architects,and designers).It is suggested that an analysis of these discourses and imaginaries is important if we are:1)to appreciate the role of these themes in the construction and/or the reconfiguration of existing or emerging historic brands within Chinese cities;2)to comprehend the construction of'authorised heritage discourses,(AHDs)practices and materialities at the level of the local state;3)to understand the politics of the past(including the uses of history,memory,nostalgia,and heritage)at the level of the local state;4)to be aware of the way in which these themes inform the preservation,conservation,and/or the demolition of heritage space at the level of the local state;5)to recognise the manufacture of'heritage'or simulacrascapes within Chinese cities.

Against the background of urban regeneration,“reducing quantity and improving quality” has been the core demand for planning and development in Beijing’s central urban areas,which applies to the development of urban vitality spaces of the city as *** the meantime,in the digital age,users’ sentiment needs for urban spaces continuously increase,making it necessary to consider the sentiment connection between people and the built environment when creating vitality *** study uses two typical examples of urban regeneration vitality spaces in Beijing,“Xidan The New” and “Beijing Fun,” and uses the sentiment connection theory that is based on multiple disciplines as a lever to introduce the thinking,technology,and methods of data science,focusing on the lack of attention to small-scale built environment features in vitality space *** study integrates the from-top-to-bottom sentiment connection scale data,the qualitative research data,and the from-bottom-to-top big data sentiment analysis to explore the characteristics of small-scale vitality space that can stimulate positive sentiment experiences for users and to bring the discussion of spatial vitality back to the human scale and real three-dimensional spatial *** the end,this study summarizes the elements of small-scale spatial vitality and constructs evaluation indicators for sentiment connection to vitality *** goal is to expand and refine the research scope of urban vitality spaces,update corresponding design and evaluation methods,and ensure that the spatial expression of “vitality” truly reflects liveliness and responds to human nature.

Integrating ergonomics data and emotional scale to analyze people’s emotional attachment to different landscape features in the Wudaokou Urban Park

Against the background of urban renewal,the landscape transformation of urban public space into urban parks has become an effective way of improving environmental quality and creating an emotional attachment for ***,existing studies have seldom adopted experimental methods to scientifically reveal the effect of different landscape features on emotional *** a portable eye movement tracker,wearable wireless physiological sensor,and emotional attachment scale,this study collects participants’ergonomics data,and their degree and dimension of emotional attachment while experiencing different landscape features in Wudaokou Park in Beijing,*** data were analyzed with the help of ErgoLab platform and IBM SPSS *** results indicate that the artificial and natural landscape features and their specific characteristics have different effects on eye movement index,heart rate variability,skin conductance level,and attachment degree and *** design of Wudaokou Park was proven to significantly promote emotional *** features play an important role,among which the use of wild plants and gazebosdshowing the texture and structural logic of bamboo materialsdstand *** research not only expands the practical scope of ergonomics instruments and improves the rationality of the emotional attachment scale,but also provides emotion-oriented design methods for urban researchers and designers to improve the emotional experience in urban parks in the future.

Influences of spherical tree canopy on thermal radiation disturbance to exterior wall under the condition of no shade cast on the wall

Research on the influence of thermal radiation of tree canopies to adjacent exterior walls has relevance to the selection of tree species and the spatial arrangement of trees for urban *** the last decade,there have been many studies on the influence of tree shadows on the thermal environment and energy consumption of ***,there is a lack of research on how trees affect the thermal radiation of adjacent buildings,when they do not cast direct shadows on the *** view of this,a combination of experiment and simulation was used to explore the influence of spherical canopy on the intensity changes of net long-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDL))and net short-wave thermal radiation(T_(RDS))absorbed by the adjacent *** measured and simulated results show that the tree canopy has a T_(RD)(the sum of T_(RDL) and T_(RDS))effect on the south wall of adjacent buildings in *** peak of T_(RD) from the tree to the adjacent wall was obtained by ENVI-met under 27 scenarios.A functional relationship was further given between the peak T_(RD) and the canopy diameter(D_(C)),the minimum distance between wall and tree canopy(D_(W-T)).Moreover,the influence of D_(C),D_(W-T) and leaf area density(LAD)on T_(RD) was discussed by ***,the Trd of canopy decays exponentially in the horizontal direction and linearly in the vertical direction of the *** above methods and results can guide the selection of tree species,green space design around buildings and the evaluation of the influence of trees on indoor cooling energy consumption in summer.
