This paper considers the problem of network overloading in the power distribution networks of Pakistan, often resulting from the inability of the transmission system to transfer power from source to end-user during peak loads. This results in frequent power-outages and consumers at such times have to rely on alternative energy sources, e.g. Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) systems with batteries to meet their basic demand. In this paper, we propose a demand response framework to eliminate the problem of network overloading. The flexibility provided by the batteries at different houses connected to the same grid node is exploited by scheduling the flow of power from mains and batteries and altering the charging-discharging patterns of the batteries, thereby avoiding network overloading and any tripping of the grid node. This is achieved by casting the problem in an optimal control setting based on a prediction of power demand at a grid node and then solving it using a model predictive control strategy. We present a case study to demonstrate the application and efficacy of our proposed framework.

Information-theoretic stealth attacks are data injection attacks that minimize the amount of information acquired by the operator about the state variables, while simultaneously limiting the Kullback-Leibler divergence between the distribution of the measurements under attack and the distribution under normal operation with the aim of controling the probability of attack detection. For Gaussian distributed state variables, attack construction requires knowledge of the second order statistics of the state variables, which is estimated from a finite number of past realizations using a sample covariance matrix. Within this framework, the attack performance is studied for the attack construction with the sample covariance matrix. This results in an analysis of the amount of data required to learn the covariance matrix of the state variables used on the attack construction. The ergodic attack performance is characterized using asymptotic random matrix theory tools, and the variance of the attack performance is bounded. Voting is the important procedure in different countries worldwide and is essential to any consensus-dependent society. Especially in the context of COVID pandemic where people stays home, such systems are very relevant today. Elections can happen for different reasons, involving choosing leaders, finishing political problems, choosing a substantial government, etc. The phenomenal using of Information Technology in the process of election is quickly earning momentum. This growth in voting systems indicated to as evoting comes with more benefits than the voting system based on paper. While there are many efforts in different parts of world regarding implementations and trials for electronic voting, there are not many researches regarding this in Asia Minor, especially Iraq. It can be noted that Iraq has several regions with difficult access and where sometime it is difficult to collect votes in the traditional way because of access reasons and post-war conditions. We want to fill this gap through the research presented in this paper. In this paper we describe an application for m-voting targeting the specific conditions of Iraq in the COVID situation. In the current society, the application of which we are talking about, can also be seen as a significant help for a numerous amount of countries during the pandemic of COVID-19. The application is based on Mobile technology. We choose mobile technology motivated by the fact that although people do not have computers, almost everyone has a mobile phone in Iraq. Moreover, the usefulness of mobiles can represent a proper way for people with disabilities to execute their legal right to vote for the future of their country.

Over the past years, interest in classifying drivers’ behavior from data has surged. Such interest is particularly relevant for car insurance companies who, due to privacy constraints, often only have access to data from Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) or similar. In this paper, we present a semi-supervised learning solution to classify portions of trips according to whether drivers are driving aggressively or normally based on such IMU data. Since the amount of labeled IMU data is limited and costly to generate, we utilize Recurrent Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (RCGAN) to generate more labeled data. Our results show that, by utilizing RCGAN-generated labeled data, the classification of the drivers is improved in 79% of the cases, compared to when the drivers are classified with no generated data. Tremor is a very common motor disorder, mainly manifested as involuntary, periodic and rhythmic movement in any part of the body, especially in hands and upper-limbs, which seriously affects the life quality of patients. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) has been shown a promising technique to suppress tremor. Most existing FES based design methods assume tremor is a single frequency signal which however is a highly idealized simplification of the real case which contains multiple-frequency or even a frequency band, therefore limiting their practical performance. To address this problem, this paper proposes a controller design method based on multi-periodic repetitive control that is capable of suppressing tremor signal with multiple frequencies. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The analysis of the photospheric velocity field is essential for understanding plasma turbulence in the solar surface, which may be responsible for driving processes such as magnetic reconnection, flares, wave propagation, particle acceleration, and coronal heating. Currently, the only available methods to estimate velocities at the solar photosphere transverse to an observer’s line of sight infer flows from differences in image structure in successive observations. Due to data noise, algorithms such as local correlation tracking (LCT) may lead to a vector field with wide gaps where no velocity vectors are provided. In this letter, a novel method for image inpainting of highly corrupted data is proposed and applied to the restoration of horizontal velocity fields in the solar photosphere. The restored velocity field preserves all the vector field components present in the original field. The method shows robustness when applied to both simulated and observational data. Maneuvering an articulated vehicle on narrow road stretches is often a challenging task for a human driver. Unless the vehicle is accurately steered, parts of the vehicle’s bodies may exceed its assigned drive lane, resulting in an increased risk of collision with surrounding traffic. In this work, an optimization-based path-planning algorithm is proposed targeting on-road driving scenarios for articulated vehicles composed of a tractor and a trailer. To this end, we model the tractor-trailer vehicle in a road-aligned coordinate frame suited for on-road planning. Based on driving heuristics, a set of different optimization objectives is proposed, with the overall goal of designing a path planner that computes paths which minimize the off-track of the vehicle bodies swept area, while remaining on the road and avoiding collision with obstacles. The proposed optimization-based path-planning algorithm, together with the different optimization objectives, is evaluated and analyzed in simulations on a set of complicated and practically relevant on-road planning scenarios using the most challenging tractor-trailer dimensions. The inspection of transmission equipment by UAV has become an indispensable daily operation and maintenance method for overhead transmission lines. The passive sensors installed on the power transmission equipment needs to complete all its data calculation tasks within a given period of time, and needs to store a certain amount of energy to maintain its normal operation afterwards. During the inspection work, the UAV provides energy for the sensor device, and calculates the data uploaded by the sensor device, and returns the result to the sensor after the calculation is completed. Aiming at the problem of limited UAV energy and short working time, this paper proposes a optimization problem through joint optimization of UAV trajectory, sensor data unloading, sensor wireless energy transmission and other factors. According to convex optimization theory, this optimization problem can be solved based on successive convex approximation (SCA) theory. Compared with the benchmark algorithm, the UAV obtained by the optimization plan in this paper has the lowest flight energy consumption, and as time increases, the advantages of the optimization plan in this paper become more obvious. The algorithm proposed in this paper effectively reduces the energy consumption of the UAV during the execution of the mission and improves the efficiency of the UAV inspection.
