The main effects of atmospheric turbulence on the laser beams propagation are scintillation, beam wandering, and phase front distortion. The first two can be compensated simply by using aperture averaging, whereas the later, which is of high importance in high data rates free space optics communications, is much more complex. This paper gives a review of principal analytical methods used to simulate and characterize the optical beam propagation through the turbulence channel focussing on phase front distortion. The paper presents simple models suitable for computer simulations of beam wandering and scintillation. This is followed by more complex theoretical approaches in analysing the turbulence induced phase front distortion and the calculation of the mutual coherence function of partially coherent beams propagating through an inhomogeneous medium. The theoretical analysis of beam coherence and phase front distortion due to turbulence represents the first step for elaboration of the mitigation methods.

The service-oriented environment offers the opportunity to create new applications, by combining existing applications offered as services, in order to react to the business' increasing pressure of quickly delivering new applications. With a large number of web services offering the same functionality, choosing the web services that meet best the client's quality of service (QoS) requirements is a very important task. We introduce a QoS-aware end to end web service composition approach that handles all the stages from the web service discovery step, to the actual binding of the services. This approach uses our method of expressing nonfunctional preferences, which requires minimal effort on the part of the clients, but offers great flexibility in managing trade-offs. We define a QoS preferences ontology and use it in our semantic web service selection to choose an initial candidate list of services for every task in the orchestration model. Then, one concrete service is chosen from each candidate list and is boand to the corresponding task. This step involves computing and comparing the aggregated QoS of the resulting composite services. The selection is performed using a genetic algorithm.

This brief presents a new distributed scheme to solve the consensus problem for a group of agents if neither their absolute states nor inter-agent relative states are available. The new scheme considers a random partition of agents into two subgroups at each step and then uses the relative group representative state as feedback information for the consensus purpose. It is then shown that almost sure consensus can be achieved under the proposed scheme in both discrete time and continuous time. For the discrete time case, almost sure consensus is achieved if and only if the weighting parameter for state update is greater than one. For the continuous time case, almost sure consensus is realized when the weighting parameter is positive. Moreover, it is shown that if a uniform probability is considered for group selection, then the group of agents can reach average consensus in mean. © 2014 Elsevier. Ltd All rights reserved.

In this paper,an analysis for ill conditioning problem in subspace identifcation method is *** subspace identifcation technique presents a satisfactory robustness in the parameter estimation of process model which performs *** a frst step,the main geometric and mathematical tools used in subspace identifcation are briefly *** the second step,the problem of analyzing ill-conditioning matrices in the subspace identifcation method is *** illustrate this situation,a simulation study of an example is introduced to show the ill-conditioning in subspace *** numerical subspace state space system identifcation(N4SID)and multivariable output error state space model identifcation(MOESP)are considered to study,the parameters estimation while using the induction motor model,in simulation(Matlab environment).Finally,we show the inadequacy of the oblique projection and validate the efectiveness of the orthogonal projection approach which is needed in ill-conditioning;a real application dealing with induction motor parameters estimation has been *** obtained results proved that the algorithm based on orthogonal projection MOESP,overcomes the situation of ill-conditioning in the Hankel s block,and thereby improving the estimation of parameters.

The emergence of hyperspectral remote sensing has greatly promoted the development of the remote sensing technology. Endmember extraction is an important task in hyperspectral data processing. Pixel purity index (PPI)[1] algorithm has been widely used for endmember extraction in hyperspectral images. With the development of hyperspectral sensors, the resolution of hyperspectral images increases and the traditional hyperspectral processing algorithm is highly time consuming as its precision increases asymptotically. In order to process massive hyperspectral data efficiently, this paper proposes a distributed parallel implementation of PPI algorithm (PPI_DP) on cloud computing architecture. The realization of the proposed method using Spark framework and MapReduce model is described and evaluated. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively extract the endmembers of large quantity hyperspectral data.

Weld seam recognition is the key technique in visual tracking research. Based on the weld image features, the image preprocessing and the linear feature extraction method of the weld seam recognition are designed. The extended adaptive median filtering method and modified Otsu adaptive threshold selection method for image segmentation are used in the image pre-processing process, to remove the noise and compress the image data. Through comparing with several other edge operators, the Roberts operator is chosen to achieve the goal of detecting the welding edge. Finally, the weld seam information is extracted through Hough transform and a satisfied result can be acquired. The study provides a theoretical support for the following designing of the weld tracking system. © 2015 SERSC.

Fault Localization Prioritization (FLP) aims at reordering existing test cases so that the location of detected faulty components can be identified earlier, using certain fault localization techniques. Although some researchers have proposed adaptive prioritization strategies with white-box code coverage information, such information may not always be available. In this paper, we address the FLP problem using black-box information derived from partitioning the input domain. Based on the well-known technique of Spectra-Based Fault Localization (SBFL), three test case prioritization strategies are designed following some basic SBFL heuristics. The implementation of these proposed strategies relies only on the partition information, and does not require any test case execution history. Experiments show that our strategies, when compared with pure random selection, result in a faster localization of faulty statements, reducing the number of test case executions required. Here, we analyze the characteristics and merits of the three proposed strategies.

We propose and test on real data a two-tier estimation strategy for inferring occupancy levels from measurements of CO_2 concentration and temperature levels. The first tier is a blind identification step, based either on a frequentist Maximum Likelihood method, implemented using non-linear optimization, or on a Bayesian marginal likelihood method, implemented using a dedicated Expectation-Maximization algorithm. The second tier resolves the ambiguity of the unknown multiplicative factor, and returns the final estimate of the occupancy levels. The overall procedure addresses some practical issues of existing occupancy estimation strategies. More specifically, first it does not require the installation of special hardware, since it uses measurements that are typically available in many buildings. Second, it does not require apriori knowledge on the physical parameters of the building, since it performs system identification steps. Third, it does not require pilot data containing measured real occupancy patterns (i.e., physically counting people for some periods, a typically expensive and time consuming step), since the identification steps are blind.

We consider the problem of estimating the occupancy level in buildings using indirect information such as CO_2 concentrations and ventilation levels. We assume that one of the rooms is temporarily equipped with a device measuring the occupancy. Using the collected data, we identify a gray-box model whose parameters carry information about the structural characteristics of the room. Exploiting the knowledge of the same type of structural characteristics of the other rooms in the building, we adjust the gray-box model to capture the CO_2 dynamics of the other rooms. Then the occupancy estimators are designed using a regularized deconvolution approach which aims at estimating the occupancy pattern that best explains the observed CO_2 dynamics. We evaluate the proposed scheme through extensive simulation using a commercial software tool, IDA-ICE, for dynamic building simulation.
