It is the mainstream method that in human face detection and recognition with AdaBoost as the representative based on statistical learning method. Detection rates have reached a high level, and can achieve real-time detection. However, AdaBoost algorithm treats equally for different categories, there is no distinction between the cost of the different error categories. This paper presents a new cost-sensitive Ada Boost-based face detection algorithm, ensuring the detection rate and speed, effectively reducing the false detection rate, and improving the detection accuracy.

The expectation maximisation (EM) algorithm has proven to be effective for a range of identification problems. Unfortunately, the way in which the EM algorithm has previously been applied has proven unsuitable for the commonly employed innovations form model structure. This paper addresses this problem, and presents a previously unexamined method of EM algorithm employment. The results are profiled, which indicate that a hybrid EM/gradient-search technique may in some cases outperform either a pure EM or a pure gradient-based search approach.

This paper presents a novel approach to the estimation of a general class of dynamic nonlinear system models. The main contribution is the use of a tool from mathematical statistics, known as Fishers' identity, to establish how so-called "particle smoothing" methods may be employed to compute gradients of maximum-likelihood and associated prediction error cost criteria.

In this paper, we show that by using two adaptive neural networks (NNs), each of which is tailored for a specific task, the tracking performance of the hard-disk-drive (HDD) actuator can be significantly improved. The first NN utilizes accelerometer signal to detect external vibrations and compensates for its effect on HDD position via feedforward action. The second NN is designed to compensate for pivot friction. The appealing advantage of the NN compensators is that the design does not involve any information on the plant, sensor, disturbance dynamics, and friction model. The stability of the proposed scheme is analyzed by the Lyapunov criterion. Experimental results show that the tracking performance of the HDDs can be improved significantly with the use of the NN compensators as compared to the case without compensation. © 2009 IEEE.

control of the networked control systems is a crucial challenge. In the environment of shared communication media, data may be randomly delayed or even lost. As the shared communication links are used in the critical infrastructure systems, the problem becomes even more important. As opposed to network compensation, solutions presented in the paper integrate network with the controlled plant. The proposed networked control system employs the model predictive control technology and is based on the buffer in the actuator. Stability of the presented solution used to control a linear discrete time system is analyzed. A simulation example is also provided.

A non-linear iterative learning control approach is developed for application to stroke rehabilitation. The subject is seated in a robotic workstation and electrical stimulation is applied to their triceps muscle to assist the tracking of trajectories in a horizontal plane. In addition to rotation about vertical axes through the shoulder and elbow joints, the forearm is also permitted to elevate in order to provide full arm extension. A dynamic model of the human arm is first developed, and then constraints are introduced to overcome kinematic redundancy. The expressions necessary to implement the control law are derived, and experimental results confirm its ability to achieve a high level of performance in practice.

In this paper, sensors, which are directly installed on the surface of the mill, are used to collect mill's signals by wireless. The frame of the system is introduced and the hardware and software is designed in details in this paper. With the transmission mode of I 2 S and MCU of AT89S2051, the transform from analog signals to digital signals , data's transmission by wireless is achieved by this system. On this basis, the program designed is not only good at collect mill's signals, but also restraining the interference, analyzing spectrum. So the program can effectively achieve the mill state detection.

Nonlinear Fisher Discriminant Analysis for binomial problems can be converted into a Linear-In-The-Parameters classifier model by introducing a least-squares cost function. However, the complexity of the classifier scales with the number of training samples, which makes it difficult to use on large data sets. A popular solution is to adopt a sub-model selection approach, such as Orthogonal Least Squares (OLS) or the Fast Recursive Algorithm (FRA), to produce a compact classifier with accurate parameters. The problem is that these methods need additional subjective choice of selection termination criterion, and inappropriate choice of this criterion may lead to an over-fitting classifier. Further, training data with large noise may even deteriorate the performance. This paper proposes a fast automatic forward algorithm for constructing a parsimonious descriptor of the nonlinear discriminant function, thus both the subjective choice of the termination criterion and the over-fitting problem due to noisy data can be avoided. This is achieved by an effective integration of the Bayesian regularisation technique, the Leave-One-Out (LOO) cross-validation criterion and the FRA algorithm. Experimental results are included to confirm the efficacy and superiority of the proposed algorithm on both artificial and real world data sets.

The chaotic suppression problem for a class of typical discrete-time hyperchaotic systems is investigated in this paper. A T-S fuzzy model-based control method is employed to eliminate hyperchaos in the considered discrete-time system. Firstly, the T-S fuzzy representation for the discrete-time hyperchaotic system is presented. Then, a state feedback controller is designed based on the parallel distributed compensation technique. According to the linear matrix inequality method and exact linearization technique, two kinds of approaches are given to solve the controller gain matrices. Finally, the validity of the proposed chaotic suppression method is illustrated by a numerical example.

Due to the stochastic characteristic of photovoltaic (PV) generation, energy storage devices are indispensable to smooth the power flow and provide the electric energy with high quality. In this paper, an integrated DC/DC converter is proposed to realize high performance interfaces for PV array, battery and load. This converter consists of a boost converter for the PV array and a buck/boost converter for the battery, which can realize multifunction including power generation, charge and discharge. The grid-connected and stand-alone operation modes of this converter are analyzed. From this analysis, the control strategies are developed for both modes. A coordination scheme is proposed for the power balance at the stand-alone mode. Simulation and experiments verify the practical feasibility and effectiveness of this multi-function converter.
