Based on Perception Linear Prediction (PLP), an approach to extract features from underwater target signal is presented. The method is the simulation of hearing property of human beings. Through the auditory psychology, three auditory spectrums are estimated, and they are Critical band, Equal-loudness curve and Intensity-loudness power. Then, a twelve-dimension feature vector is obtained. The vector is also a twelve-order all-pole model and it is robust. With the feature vector, the training and recognition processes are performed. The real sea experiments prove that human ear is at different level of sensitivity with different frequency bands where six kinds of radiated noises exist respectively, that the underwater target features are robust, that the dimension is relatively lower and the computation is less expensive and the recognition ratio may arrive 91% to six kinds of underwater target noise.

As the interest of location based-service and ubiquitous environment is proliferated, the development of technologies to determine mobile station location indoors and outdoors is basically demanded for providing various services based on user's location. Representatively, GPS(Global Positioning System) is the most well-known positioning system, but actually isn't an adequate system indoors because of the weakness of positioning signals, NLOS(Non-line of sight) and multipath. Therefore, recently in order to replace it, new technologies using WLAN have been presented. In the thesis, as estimating NLOS errors between mobile station and access points using reference points, a triangulation positioning method based on signal strength will be proposed. Also, indoor positioning experiment results will be shown.

An integrated approach to control of quantity and quality in water supply and distribution systems is proposed. The integrated control consists in optimising the operational cost, meeting a demand on water of desired quality and maintaining the system constraints. This constrained optimising control problem is complex due to nonlinearities, large dimension, output constraints, mixed-integer structure of the variables involved, at least two time scales in the system dynamics and an uncertainty. A sub-optimal two-level hierarchical control structure is proposed that allows incorporating the desired controller functions and yet making the synthesis of these functions possible. The algorithms for implementing the functionalities are proposed and discussed. Detail design of the lower level controller is presented and investigated. Iterative learning control has the potential to significantly improve the tracking performance of repeating trajectory control systems. However, until now little attempt has been made to measure this performance quantitatively. A new iterative learning control performance index PI N is introduced which allows direct, quantitative, performance comparison of different algorithms, or alternatively a single algorithm which has variable tuning parameters. In particular, PI N can be used as a tool for selecting and adjusting algorithm tuning parameters.
