An undirected weighted graph (UWG) is frequently adopted to describe the interactions among a solo set of nodes from real applications, such as the user contact frequency from a social network services system. A graph convolutional network (GCN) is widely adopted to perform representation learning to a UWG for subsequent pattern analysis tasks such as clustering or missing data estimation. However, existing GCNs mostly neglects the latent collaborative information hidden in its connected node pairs. To address this issue, this study proposes to model the node collaborations via a symmetric latent factor analysis model, and then regards it as a node-collaboration module for supplementing the collaboration loss in a GCN. Based on this idea, a Node-collaboration-informed Graph Convolutional Network (NGCN) is proposed with three-fold ideas: a) Learning latent collaborative information from the interaction of node pairs via a node-collaboration module;b) Building the residual connection and weighted representation propagation to obtain high representation capacity;and c) Implementing the model optimization in an end-to-end fashion to achieve precise representation to the target UWG. Empirical studies on UWGs emerging from real applications demonstrate that owing to its efficient incorporation of node-collaborations, the proposed NGCN significantly outperforms state-of-the-art GCNs in addressing the task of missing weight estimation. Meanwhile, its good scalability ensures its compatibility with more advanced GCN extensions, which will be further investigated in our future studies. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Hyperspectral image super resolution aims to improve the spatial resolution of given hyperspectral images, which has become a highly attractive topic in the field of image processing. Existing techniques typically focus on super resolution with sufficient training data. However, restricted by data acquisition conditions, certain hyperspectral images or band images are very different to obtain, resulted in insufficient training data. In order to solve this problem, a new hyperspectral image super resolution method is proposed in this paper in an effort to conduct the super resolution task over insufficient (sparse) training data, by applying the recently introduced ANFIS (Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Inference System) interpolation method. Particularly, the training dataset is divided into several subsets. For the subsets with sufficient training data, the relevant ANFIS models are trained using standard ANFIS learning algorithm, while for the subsets with sparse training data, the corresponding ANFIS models are interpolated through the use of ANFIS interpolation. Experimental results indicate that compared with the methods using sufficient training data, the proposed method can achieve very similar result, showing its effectiveness for situations where only sparse training data is available.

Distilled Transformers with Locally Enhanced Global Representations for Face Forgery Detection

Face forgery detection (FFD) is devoted to detecting the authenticity of face images. Although current CNN-based works achieve outstanding performance in FFD, they are susceptible to capturing local forgery patterns generated by various manipulation methods. Though transformer-based detectors exhibit improvements in modeling global dependencies, they are not good at exploring local forgery artifacts. Hybrid transformer-based networks are designed to capture local and global manipulated traces, but they tend to suffer from the attention collapse issue as the transformer block goes deeper. Besides, soft labels are rarely available. In this paper, we propose a distilled transformer network (DTN) to capture both rich local and global forgery traces and learn general and common representations for different forgery faces. Specifically, we design a mixture of expert (MoE) module to mine various robust forgery embeddings. Moreover, a locally-enhanced vision transformer (LEVT) module is proposed to learn locally-enhanced global representations. We design a lightweight multi-attention scaling (MAS) module to avoid attention collapse, which can be plugged and played in any transformer-based models with only a slight increase in computational costs. In addition, we propose a deepfake self-distillation (DSD) scheme to provide the model with abundant soft label information. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method surpasses the state of the arts on five deepfake datasets. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Fueled by advancements in intelligent transportation systems, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) seeks to connect smart vehicles, road infrastructure, and users into a unified network, enhancing traffic efficiency and reducing accident risks. Centralized cloud data collection raises concerns about privacy and communication overhead. To address these, Distributed Edge Intelligence (DEI) reduces transmission costs and improves privacy by implementing machine learning at the network edge. In this context, Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) systems, combined with DEI in the IoV framework, enhance transportation system intelligence through real-time data processing and decentralized decision-making. This paper proposes a modeling and analysis method for CACC systems based on Petri nets. The datasets are automatically generated using tools developed by our team, and machine learning methods are utilized to perform risk prediction analysis on the CACC model. From the perspective of Petri nets synchronization, we propose risk mitigation strategies from a design standpoint. The research results show that the proposed method significantly reduces signal accumulation and enhances synchronization in CACC systems. This improvement provides new theoretical support and technical guidance for the design and implementation of CACC systems, ultimately enhancing their safety and reliability. © 2025 IEEE.

Source-free domain adaptation via avatar prototype generation and adaptation

We study a practical domain adaptation task, called source-free unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) problem, in which we cannot access source domain data due to data privacy issues but only a pre-trained source model and unlabeled target data are available. This task, however, is very difficult due to one key challenge: the lack of source data and target domain labels makes model adaptation very challenging. To address this, we propose to mine the hidden knowledge in the source model and exploit it to generate source avatar prototypes (i.e., representative features for each source class) as well as target pseudo labels for domain alignment. To this end, we propose a Contrastive Prototype Generation and Adaptation (CPGA) method. Specifically, CPGA consists of two stages: (1) prototype generation: by exploring the classification boundary information of the source model, we train a prototype generator to generate avatar prototypes via contrastive learning. (2) prototype adaptation: based on the generated source prototypes and target pseudo labels, we develop a new robust contrastive prototype adaptation strategy to align each pseudo-labeled target data to the corresponding source prototypes. Robot arms have been widely used in industry. The absolute positioning error of robots without calibration can reach several millimeters, which cannot meet the application requirements of accurate operation. Therefore, it is almost a mandatory procedure for industrial robots to take on-site calibration before being used. Generally, most researchers on robot calibration have mechanical and instrumentation background as the collection of calibration data is tedious and it is usually difficult to access to industrial robots for researchers in other fields. This research explores the calibration problem from a machine learning perspective and provides the first open-access dataset called "RobotCali"in this area so that machine learning scientists can step into this field and verify their algorithms on this problem. In the meanwhile, a new calibration method based on the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm and extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm is proposed, which can significantly improve the absolute positioning accuracy of the robot after calibration. Firstly, the error model of robot is established, and kinematic parameters are initially identified by LM algorithm. Then the EKF algorithm is used to further calibrate these parameters, which has been verified the effectiveness of the proposed method by experimental results. Lastly, the future research work is discussed. © 2021 IEEE.

Text-guided Reconstruction Network for Sentiment Analysis with Uncertain Missing Modalities

Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) is an attractive research that aims to integrate sentiment expressed in textual, visual, and acoustic signals. There are two main problems in the existing methods: 1) the dominant role of the text is underutilization in unaligned multimodal data, and 2) the modality under uncertain missing feature is not sufficiently explored. This paper proposes a Text-guided Reconstruction Network (TgRN) for MSA with uncertain missing modalities in non-aligned sequences. The TgRN network includes three primary modules: Text-guided Extraction Module (TEM), Reconstruction Module (RM) and Text-guided Fusion Module (TFM). First, the TEM consists of the text-guided cross attention units and self-attention units to capture inter-modal features and intra-modal features, respectively. Second, leveraging enhanced attention units and a three-way squeeze-and-excitation block, the RM is designed to learn semantic information from incomplete data and reconstruct missing modality features. Third, the TFM utilizes a progressive modality-mixing adaptation gate to explore the dynamic correlations between nonverbal and verbal modalities, effectively addressing the modality gap issue. Finally, under the supervision of sentiment prediction loss and reconstruction loss, the TgRN effectively processes both uncertain missing-modality conditions and ideal complete modality conditions. Extensive experiments on CMU-MOSI and CH-SIMS demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art approaches. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

In gastroenteroscopy image analysis, numerous CADs demonstrate that deep learning aids doctors' diagnosis. The shapes and sizes of the lesions are varied. And in the clinic, the dataset appears to be data imbalanced. However, existing methods directly classify by texture and ignore lesions with various shapes and sizes. To address the issue above, we propose a deep neural network, which consists of multi-scale feature extraction, contrastive feature learning and a multi-scale feature fusion module. We train the contrastive feature learning module and multi-scale feature fusion module simultaneously to alleviate the issue of data distribution differences. Thus, the proposed network can better identify various categories. Extensive experiments on the Hyper Kvasir dataset show that the proposed Hybrid-M2CL outperforms the benchmark proposed by the dataset with 5.0% Macro Precision, 3.3% Macro Recall, 3.4% Macro F1-score, 3.3% Micro Precision, 3.6% MCC. In addition, it outperforms the SOTA by 1.1% Macro F1-score, 2.6% MCC, and 2.0% B-ACC.

Nasotracheal intubation is a crucial emergency procedure that can improve the survival rate of injured patients. Compared to orotracheal intubation, nasotracheal intubation offers greater stability and comfort. However, due to the large curvature of the cavity, the procedure is highly challenging and requires skilled medical staff, which can be a shortage in emergencies and delay patient rescue. To solve this problem, a flexible and portable robot for nasotracheal intubation has been developed in this paper. The robot incorporates a continuum catheter, allowing the shape of the endotracheal tube's distal section to be controllable and making it easier to pass through the nasal cavity into the trachea. An endoscope is integrated into the distal section of the catheter to make the intubation process more intuitive, allowing doctors to observe the injuries through endoscopic images and adjust the treatment plan. Additionally, the robot is designed with a quick-detachable structure, enabling aseptic and low-cost intubation procedures. The structure and circuitry of the robot are designed for portability, with a smaller size and lower power consumption, which can work for a long time just powered by batteries. Finally, experiments on a mannequin validate that the robotic system effectively reduces the difficulty of tracheal intubation, enabling even non-medically trained operators to complete the procedure with the assistance of the robot. © 2023 IEEE.
