Because the structure and function of a high-rise building is complex and the density of occupants in it is high, fire safety is still a worldwide difficult problem. Safety and timely evacuation is an important issue under fire in the high-rise buildings. Because it is impossible in fact to do experiments about fire safety evacuation in high-rise buildings, in this paper, a research framework based on the artificial system, computational experiments, and parallel excution (ACP) theory is proposed. First, an evacuation process is considered to compose of two stages including pre-evacuation stage and evacuation stage. Second, artifical men with recognition functions based agent technology is proposed. Finally, computational experiments are designed by using an orthogonal experiment table, and experiment procedure of pre-evacuation stage is given. The idea of systimatic research about the influence of fire control facilities to evacuation is also proposed © 2011 IEEE.

As a kind of visual measurement technique based upon variations in conductivity, electrical resistance tomography has great potential in process application. A new data acquisition system for electrical resistance tomography is described. This data acquisition system is built based on the CompactPCI bus and the FPGA. The application of the CompactPCI bus can make the single plane electrical resistance tomography system extended and upgraded easily to multi-plane by adding additional CompactPCI cards and simple changes of configuration in FPGA chips and software in host computer. Besides, the injecting method and strategy can be controlled flexibly by FPGA. Meanwhile, the desired signals are measured and processed using digital signal processing technique in FPGA chips. This approach allows the system flexible, fast and precise. The new data acquisition system is tested in laboratory, the speed of the system can reach more than 1500 frame/s at the 100kHz sine wave injecting signal, even faster at higher frequency;the Signal-to-Noise ratio of the system can reach above 73dB.

An adaptive sliding mode control scheme for electromechanical actuator has been presented. The adaptive control strategy can estimate the uncertain parameters and adaptively compensate the modeled dynamical uncertainties, while the sliding mode control method overcomes the unmodelled dynamics. In the adaptive law an equivalent output injection of the sliding mode observer which contains the parameter estimation error is used, and estimates of parameters can approximate the true values without prediction-error that is typically used in compositive adaptive law. Due to the improved estimation of uncertain parameters, the sliding mode law can robustifies the design against model uncertainties with a small swithcing gain. Stability of the system with the proposed approach has been proved and it has also been shown that the system states can reach the sliding mode in finite time. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme has been exhibited via simulation examples.

The ACP (Artificial societies, Computational experiments and Parallel execution) approach has provided us an opportunity to look into new methods in addressing transportation problems from new perspectives. In this paper, we present our works and results of applying ACP approach in modeling and analyzing transportation system, especially carrying out computational experiments based on artificial transportation systems. Two aspects in the modeling process are analyzed. The first is growing artificial transportation system from bottom up using agent-based technologies. The second is modeling environment impacts in simple-is-consistent principle. Finally, two computational experiments are carried out on one specific ATS, Jinan ATS, and numerical results are presented to illustrate the applications of our method.

Linear wireless sensor networks are characterized by a linear topology and multihop forwarding patterns. Sensors closer to the base station are usually required to forward a large amount of traffic for sensors farther from the base station, leading to the environment cannot be effectively monitored. The energy consumption balance is achieved in the paper by adjusting the distance between nodes. The distance of nodes near the base station become short because they have to forward the more traffic. The node deployment is converted to optimization problems of distance distribution between nodes. The network lifetime under different number of forwarding region is discussed. Simulation results show that this deployment strategy obtains the energy consumption balance.

Components of power systems are essentially a special class of nonlinear differential-algebraic equations subsystems, whose index is one and interconnection is local measurable. In this paper, the invertibility of power systems components is discussed. Firstly, the definition of invertibility is presented. Secondly, a recursive algorithm is proposed to judge whether the controlled components are invertable. Then a physically feasible right inverse controller is constructed with which the controlled components are made linearization and decoupled. Finally, an excitation controller is designed for one synchronous generator within multi-machine power systems based on the proposed method in this paper.

The problem on stabilization for the system with distributed delays is researched. The distributed time-delay under consideration is assumed to be a constant time-delay, but not known exactly. A design method is proposed for a memory proportional and integral （PI） feedback controller with adaptation to distributed time-delay. The feedback controller with memory simultaneously contains the current state and the past distributed information of the addressed systems. The design for adaptation law to distributed delay is very concise. The controller can be derived by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the design method.

In this paper, the problem of robust filtering for a class of uncertain discrete-time stochastic systems under randomly varying distributed sensor delay is reconsidered. A new and efficient method for robust filter design is introduced to achieve some performance requirements, that is, the error state of filtering process is mean square bounded and the steady-state variance of the estimation error for each state is less than the individual prescribed upper bound. Different from the previous method which involves a two-step design procedure with algebraic Riccati-like inequalities and linear constraint, it is shown that this problem can be directly converted to the feasibility of some linear matrix inequalities. Furthermore, the inequality used for handling the parameter uncertainty in the previous literature is no required which reduces the conservatism of the obtained results. An example is carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the method and the improvement over the existing result in the literature.

For a ground target tracking system using an unmanned helicopter, an on-board pan-tilt controller is proposed to adjust the attitude of the camera, so that to keep the target staying at the center of the image plane when the target is in sight. When the target is temporarily out of view due to various reasons, the designed controller will make the camera quickly re-capture the target by estimating its state and then regulating the orientation of the camera correspondingly. Specifically, a novel state transformation is firstly introduced to make the error system independent of the target image. Subsequently, a nonlinear pan-tilt controller is designed for the transformed error system. Lyapunov techniques are then employed to prove that the target tracking error in the image plane is driven to zero exponentially fast. To facilitate the implementation of the constructed controller, a visual estimator is also utilized to obtain the state information of the target even if it is occasionally out of the view of the camera by introducing an effective nonlinear filter. Simulation results are provided to validate the performance of the presented control system.

Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE.
