Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique for reconstructing conductivity of an inhomogeneous medium by injecting currents at the boundary of an object and measuring the resulting changes in voltage. The SNR of acquisitive data and the reconstructed image quality of EIT system are directly determined by current drive patterns. In this paper, eight current drive patterns with the same boundary voltage measurement strategy have been studied. The isopotential lines, the number of independent measurements, measured voltage dynamic range, voltage change with conductivity change and reconstructed image quality of these patterns are compared, through which an optimal current drive pattern was obtained.

In this paper, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach and proper integral inequality, one novel sufficient condition is derived to guarantee the global stability for neural networks with interval time-varying delay, in which the general convex combination is employed. The LMI-based criterion heavily depends on the upper and lower bounds on both time delay and its derivative, which is different from those existent ones and has wider application fields than some present results. Finally, two numerical examples can illustrate the less conservatism of the proposed methods.

In real-life, many practical applications involve agents that are nonlinear and nonholonomic. This paper investigates output synchronization of multiple mobile agents in a plane. The output synchronization of mobile agent's aims are two aspects: making the speed of each agent synchronized and tracking desired trajectories in a group. First, each agent dynamics is described by an affine control system and the communication topology among the agents is represented by a digraph. Using adjacent information and incidence matrix, a decentralized control law is acquired, which is composed of alignment control and cohesion control. Second, the stability of the group is proved by the decentralized control law and the synchronization control objective is realized. Finally, ten mobile agents are simulated to show the effectiveness of the present control law. ©2010 IEEE.

We present herein for the first time the physical pictures of wireless power transfer via evanescent fields. Our results show that the evanescent fields store energy in a localized domain and can exchange energy between two modes through evanescent waves. We also show that the energy transfer efficiencies can be greatly improved when long-tailed slowly-evanescent fields are adopted. We investigated the energy transfer efficiency and performance of wireless power transfer systems in detail and established their relationship with respect to the coupling strength and the output load parameters. Our theoretical analysis and computer simulations show that the work, radiation and absorption efficiencies are monotone functions of the coupling strength for a given output load parameter and there exists a global optimal output load configuration and a global optimal transfer rate for a fixed coupling strength parameter. The effectiveness, robustness and safety of this class of systems are also verified via the derivation of asymptotic behaviors of the optimum solutions.

Chaotic synchronization criteria for a class of dynamical networks with each node being RCL-shunted Josephson junction is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithms, which are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), guarantee the synchronized states to be global asymptotically stable. In addition, an interesting conclusion is reached that the chaotic synchronization in the coupled whole 3N-dimensional networks can be converted into that of 3-dimensional space.

Hailstone is one of main meteorological disasters and it is difficult to forecast effectively. In this paper, a new hail echo detection method based on time series association rules was proposed and a hail echo automatic detection system was built. Compared to the existing methods, the test results have shown that this method eliminated hail alert failure completely and also reduced the proportion of false alarm, raising the accuracy of hail forecast. The system was able to assist forecasters to make correct hail forecasts and provide reference to other disastrous weather forecast.

Service robot is one of the most promising industries in the future. Modular framework for designing and implementing a distributed service robot system including robot and intelligent environment is proposed. Components as sensors and actuators of a robotic system are standardized in both hardware and software design, resulting in an abstraction of digital smart devices with certain functions. A unified software platform with a core of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) middleware is established for the system. It employs the Player toolkit to access smart devices via drivers and interfaces, and the Web Service technology is introduced for automatic collaboration of smart services according to their functions. An implementation of a home-care service robotic system is described with 2D/3D realistic simulation. Experimental results validate the flexibility and open performance of the proposed demo system.

Nonperiodic cycle detection methods for gas/liquid two phase flow system were discussed. Cycle detection methods, such as Hurst analysis, the V statistic and the P statistic were briefly reviewed; in addition, a modified P statistic method was introduced. Two types of time series, i.e. mathematically sine wave time series and experimental electrical capacitance tomography time series of plug flow and slug flow under different flow conditions were investigated to verify the effectiveness of different cycle detection methods. The sine wave time series and sine wave time series under gauss noise were used to validate different cycle detection methods. For the electrical capacitance tomography time series of different flow regime, discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was adopted to decompose the original signal into approximate signal and detail signals, and then different cycle detection methods were mainly applied to realize cyclic characterization analysis of detail signals for plug flow and slug flow. The results show that the nonperiodic cycle characteristic analysis can reflect the property of different flow regimes.

This paper deals with global synchronization in arrays of coupled Lur'e systems with nonlinear delayed coupling. Together with Krasovskii-Lyapunov functional and Kronecker product technique, two novel synchronization criteria are presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based on convex combination, in which the conditions are heavily dependent on the bounds of time delay and its derivative. Through employing LMI in Matlab Toolbox and adjusting some matrix parameters in the derived results, we can realize the designing and applications of the coupled systems. The effectiveness of the proposed methods can be demonstrated by one numerical example with simulations.

Reliable navigation in the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) always require mobile robot do localization and environment map building processes, which depends heavily on estimating the position of the features within the entire surroundings, that means as a sensor receiving platform, the robot needs to detect and process information transmitted from sensors as much as possible, in order to perform tasks. However, some large and complex deployed wireless sensor network environments, in which sensor information are relatively sparse compared with the number of sensor sources, usually make the robot hard to receive enough crucial information. To make robot know its position and construct the environment map with minimal sensing information. We propose a novel navigation algorithm based on RF wireless sensor networks to simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) approach, thus, a new framework that allows a team of robots to build a map of the parameter of interest with a small number of measurements is presented. By using the recent results in the area of compressive sensing, we show how the robots can build a map with limited number of sensing measurements. The proposed algorithm is conceptually simple and easy to implement. Simulation and experimental results show that good result can be achieved using the proposed method.
