Bare bones particle swarm optimization(BBPSO) can not get good optimization performance because it is easy to get stuck into local optimum. Using wavelet mutation when no fitness improvement is observed, a new segmentation algorithm based on wavelet mutation BBPSO(WMBBPSO) and fuzzy entropy is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses WMBBPSO to explore fuzzy parameters of maximum fuzzy entropy, and the optimal fuzzy parameter combination is got, then the segmentation threshold is obtained. The experiment results of the new algorithm compared with other two algorithms show that the proposed algorithm performs good segmentation performance and low time cost. It can be used to real time and precision measurement of coal dust image.

In this paper a method for suppressing frequency varying tonal disturbances is presented. In most of such processes additional components are required to be installed within the process to measure the disturbance frequency. The proposed nonlinear optimal controller is combined with an RLS-based frequency tracking algorithm. The resulting controller is adaptive in terms of the disturbance frequency and can act as a stand-alone solution for the suppression of tonal disturbances, requiring only measurements from the process output. The performance of the resulting controller is validated by implementation on a process emulating the problem of isolating vibration using flexible raft structures.

This paper introduces a high performance vision tracking system for mobile robot using sensor data fusion. For mobile robots, it is difficult to collect continuous vision information due to robot's motion. To solve this problem, the proposed vision tracking system estimates the robot's position relative to a target and rotates the camera towards the target. This concept is derived from the human eye reflex mechanism, known as the Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR), for compensating the head motion. This concept for tracking the target results in much higher performance levels, when compared with the conventional method that rotates the camera using only vision information. The proposed system do not require heavy computing loads to process image data and can track the target continuously even during vision occlusion. The robot motion information is estimated using data from accelerometer, gyroscope, and encoders. This multi-sensor data fusion is achieved using Kalman filter. The proposed vision tracking system is implemented on a two-wheeled robot. The experimental results show that the proposed system achieves excellent tracking and recognition performance in various motion scenarios, including scenarios where camera is temporarily blocked from the target.

The cooperative behaviors of players on weighted networks are investigated by incorporation of trust mechanisms into a well-accepted game model, i.e., the networked prisoner’s dilemma game, afterwards some weight-updating schemes are designed according to the credit records. Despite the differences in network topologies and strategy updating protocols, a simple yet significant principle surfaces that, to promote the emergence of cooperation over abundant weighted networks, only the latest credit record of partners is required to be taken into consideration, whereas incorporating more previous records may even deteriorate the cooperation performance. To support such an appealing principle, we have investigated more deeply into the role of credit records so as to give a detailed explanation underlying it. The virtue of this work lies in providing insights into the effective usage of the currently available credit records.

PID controller has simple structure and easy applicability with strong performance robustness. Decentralized PID controller and decoupling PID controller are widely adopted in the control of two-input-two-output (TITO) processes. Firstly, a simple decoupling controller matrix and a desired dynamic decoupling controller matrix are designed according to the idea of coupling matrix. And then three schemes of controller including decentralized PID controller, simple PID decoupling controller and desired dynamic PID decoupling controller are provided based on the excellent characteristic of DDE. Lastly, the Monte-Carlo stochastic experiment is introduced to analyze performance robustness of the controllers. The simulation experiments illustrate that the simple decoupling control scheme has the ability of complete decoupling and better performance robustness.

This paper discusses tracking control problem with a discrete-time multi-agent system with active leader and quantized communication constraints. For the active leader in a general linear form, we give a distributed design for each discrete-time agent in the leader tracking control problem and analyze the tracking convergence with the help of Riccati equation and common Lyapunov function when the communication channel is perfect. Then a stochastic quantization strategy is applied to model the information transmission in the agent coordination and the corresponding solution is also given, even if the interconnection topology is switching.

One of the major limitations for Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) based nanoparticle pushing is that AFM only has one sharp tip as the end-effector. The interaction force between the nanoparticle and the tip is applied through a single point, which often leads the AFM tip to slip-away from the nanoparticle due to their small touch area. Then several minutes is needed to relocate the missed nanoparticle by a new image scan. Moreover, if the nanoparticle is very soft, the sharp tip may damage the particle instead of pushing it away due to the cutting effect of the sharp tip. In this paper, a nano-hand strategy is proposed to resolve this problem. Based on the theoretical analysis to the behavior model of nanoparticle, the pushing points, pushing step-length and pushing speed of AFM tip are planned artfully, through which a multi-tip manipulation effect can be imitated with a single tip. The nanoparticle is pushed as by a virtual nano-hand during manipulation,. In this way, the slip-away problem due to single AFM tip pushing can be get rid of efficiently. The simulation and experiments results show the increased effectiveness of AFM based nanomanipulation.
