Integrating filters into inverters to improve the power quality is essential. This study examines a three-phase dual-frequency grid-connected inverter designed to minimize switching losses by reducing the switching frequency in the energy transmission channel. The system utilizes L-filters and auxiliary units (AUs) to suppress harmonics and ensure high-quality grid-connected current, effectively addressing resonance issues associated with LCL filters. Simulations and experimental results show that this scheme could eliminate the circulating current between the two units and effectively suppress the leakage current.

Magnetically actuated miniature robots exhibit great potential in lab-on-a-chip and biomedical applications. However, the existing soft robots made from elastomers have limited functionality and are unable to operate in very narrow environments such as channels much smaller than their size due to their limited deformability. Herein, a magnetically actuated millirobot based on liquid metal is proposed to address the above problems. The droplet robot is fabricated by mixing iron particles and a gallium-indium droplet. The static analysis of the robot is conducted, and the dynamic equation is established. The control strategy is analyzed, the experimental setup is designed, and related experiments are conducted. In the experiments, the droplet robot demonstrates remarkable flexibility and softness when navigating freely in narrow channels, allowing it to easily pass through confined spaces much smaller than its size. The demonstrated capabilities of the droplet present a promising potential for its application in lab-on-a-chip or biomedical devices. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

Multiple types of sensors are utilized for remote monitoring of single industrial process to compensate for the limited accuracy of a single type of sensor. Network slicing technology is considered promising for collecting data from heterogeneous sensors and meeting diverse Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. However, existing research on network slicing optimization mainly focuses on inter-slice resource constraints based on slice heterogeneity, neglecting slice coupling feature. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel network slicing framework for edge-assisted industrial IoT systems. The framework includes a slice coupling model and network resource allocation (transmission and computing) to address the problem of improving estimation performance while ensuring system convergence. The slice coupling model is primarily composed of the estimation error covariance of two slices, calculated using the Age of Task (AoT) as a bridge, which reflects the accuracy and freshness of the estimation. To reduce the complexity of the direct solution, the optimization problem is scaled down and decoupled. The iterative Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to determine the allocation rates of inter-slice transmission and computing resources. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves a flexible balance under heterogeneous estimation weights and exhibits near-optimal performance. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes a license plate recognition method based on YOLOv8-Pose and E-LPRNet for complex scenarios such as urban roadside and road inspection. E-LPRNet is a character recognition network formed by modifying the activation function of the backbone network in LPRNet (License Plate Recognition Network). This method also includes a license plate correction feature, which accurately recognizes license plate characters even when the plates are at large angles, thereby increasing the recognition accuracy. A series of experiments using a large license plate dataset verified the effectiveness of this method.

This paper proposes an adaptive nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode (NFTSM) tracking controller for second-order nonlinear systems with external disturbances. Firstly, a novel NFTSM mainfold is constructed to directly address the singularity issue from the perspective of sliding mode surface design and enhance the convergence speed of the tracking error. Then, in order to achieve more accurate dynamic response on the uncertain nonlinear system, a robust adaptive control strategy is introduced into the sliding mode control strategy to estimate the unknown external disturbance. The system states can converge to an arbitrarily small set around the origin within a finite time. Finally, a simulation example is included to further testify the validity of the proposed control approach.

Unified control Theory from PID to ACPID

To address the challenge of achieving unified control across diverse nonlinear systems, a comprehensive control theory spanning from PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) to ACPID (Auto-Coupling PID) has been proposed. The primary concept is to unify all intricate factors, including internal dynamics and external bounded disturbance, into a single total disturbance. This enables the mapping of various nonlinear systems onto a linear disturbance system. Based on the theory of PID control and the characteristic equation of a critically damping system, Zeng’s stabilization rules (ZSR) and an ACPID control force based on a single speed factor have been designed. ACPID control theory is both simple and practical, with significant scientific significance and application value in the field of control engineering.

Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has gained significant attention due to its potential in treating various diseases. CHM image classification is crucial in fields such as smart medical care and medical teaching. However, accurately classifying CHM images has been a challenging task due to their fine-grained variability. To achieve automatic identification and classification of Chinese herbal medicines, we designed a method that combines image processing and deep learning. We established a dataset of CHM images, which includes 10 kinds of common Chinese herbal medicines, with 15,719 images in total. The dataset covers medicinal materials in various natural backgrounds and provides ample samples for training deep learning models. Regarding image processing, we proposed a method based on adaptive gamma correction(AGC) and compared it with CLAHE(Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization)and traditional gamma correction(TGC) methods. Subsequently, we employed three pre-training models of convolutional neural networks based on transfer learning, namely GoogLeNet, ResNet-18, and MobileNetV2, to identify CHM images. The results of the verification indicate that the AGC-CNN model outperforms the CLAHE-CNN and TGC-CNN models in terms of classification accuracy and image quality improvement.

This study investigates the problem of distributed adaptive formation control of connected vehicles with actuator saturation and time-varying spacing. Firstly, optimization performance metrics are defined based on the requirements of vehicle formation control to ensure communication coordination among the following vehicles while enabling them to track the leader vehicle's trajectory. Secondly, time-varying spacing is introduced to meet the formation requirements in different scenarios. Furthermore, actuator saturation are imposed to ensure passenger comfort during the ride. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated through three numerical simulation cases.
