Differential Evolution (DE) is a simple and efficient numerical optimization method. Most DE variants in the literature adopt fixed population size. This paper incorporates into DE the mechanisms of lifetime and extinction which regulate DE's population size in an adaptive manner. The population size is adjusted according to the online progress of fitness improvement. Two schemes of inserting new individuals are proposed to match different mechanisms respectively. The performance of these innovations is examined through the optimization of benchmark problems. The results show that the proposed adaptive population sizing strategy is efficient for improving the convergence and efficiency of the DE.

Hydro-viscous speed clutch (HVC) is a central control element of the driver system. Because of nonlinearities and hysteresis of the clutch, the setting of control parameters has a significant impact on the performance of the speed controlsystem. This paper studies the HVC of a vehicle temperature controlsystem, and analyzes the parameters tuning method of a PID controller for the closed-loop controlsystem. By employing a two-storey optimized control framework, the resulting model from identification can be used to complete the control parameters auto-tuning. Simulation and experimental results have showed that this auto-tuning method can obtain a group of parameters in terms of a desired performance index, which guarantees the balance of dynamic characteristics, stability and anti-jamming in closed-loop system.

This paper studies the leader-following consensus problem of discrete-time generic linear multi-agent systems. Agents share their states with their neighbors via a noisy communication network. An algorithm is proposed for the leader-following consensus problem where the time-varying gain is employed to attenuate noises. Different from most previous results where all agents have to use the same time-varying gain, each agent can have its own time-varying gain. Sufficient conditions for solving the mean square leader-following consensus problem are obtained: 1) the communication topology graph has a spanning tree;2) the summation of every time-varying gain from zero to infinite is infinite;3) all time-varying gains are infinitesimal of the same order as time goes to infinity;and 4) all roots of a so-called "parameter polynomial" are inside the unit circle. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the theoretical results.

The error of Code Tracking Loop(CTL) of GPS receiver influences the error of carrier tracking loop in the presence of multipath. The error models of carrier tracking loop are established in the multipath environment when the non-coherent Early Minus Late(EML) power mode CTL and the non-coherent Dot-product(DOT) power mode CTL are used. The impacts of multipath parameters and correlator spacing on the error of carrier tracking loop are analyzed by simulation. The simulation results show that the two non-coherent CTLs have little difference in affecting the carrier tracking error. Furthermore, the narrow correlator technology cannot reduce the error of carrier tracking loop.

Angle random walk (ARW) is the noise component at the output of a fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) and it affects the FOG short-term accuracy. Using only the noise property described by random walk coefficient, we developed an unsupervised adaptive filter (UAF) for suppressing the noise. Theoretical analysis illuminates that UAF performs as good as the best FIR filter in the sense of means square. Experimental results both in stationary and non-stationary cases show that UAF is more effective than wavelet denoising and that based on fast fourier transform.
