Image sharpening prediction plays a significant role in image restoration, forensics, and computer vision. This work proposes a new method for detecting sharpening and indexing in digital images. Images initially undergo manipulation using Gaussian filters and Unsharp Masking (UM) with various degrees of intensity. This is followed by transformation into the frequency domain using Fourier transform. The resulting amplitude values are calculated, and their absolute values are summed along the frequency axis to produce a profile curve. These data curves are subsequently smoothed. The UM curves exhibit concavity and symmetry relative to the curve of the original image. The values of these curves at the concave positions, corresponding to various UM intensities, can be utilized as a sharpness index by comparing them to the curve values of the original image at the same positions. These sharpness indices are dependent on the UM amplification factors. This methodology finds utility in medical image processing and computer vision systems for sharpness detection and indexing. The features identified in this study, based on Fourier power spectrum analysis, can be input into a machine learning classifier for classification. © 2024 IEEE.

Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer due to which females have such a high mortality rate. Several computer-assisted diagnostic systems have recently been proposed to operate with the least amount of data necessary due to the high number of unnecessary breast biopsies. The following review paper discusses the entire process of breast cancer classification along with various kinds of neural networks used to build such models. It further includes the various to-date research done in this domain and the different accuracy obtained by them.

Multiclass contour visualization is often used to interpret complex data attributes in such fields as weather forecasting, computational fluid dynamics, and artificial intelligence. However, effective and accurate representations of underlying data patterns and correlations can be challenging in multiclass contour visualization, primarily due to the inevitable visual cluttering and occlusions when the number of classes is significant. To address this issue, visualization design must carefully choose design parameters to make visualization more comprehensible. With this goal in mind, we proposed a framework for multiclass contour visualization. The framework has two components: a set of four visualization design parameters, which are developed based on an extensive review of literature on contour visualization, and a declarative domain-specific language (DSL) for creating multiclass contour rendering, which enables a fast exploration of those design parameters. A task-oriented user study was conducted to assess how those design parameters affect users' interpretations of real-world data. The study results offered some suggestions on the value choices of design parameters in multiclass contour visualization. © 2022 IEEE.

The present research introduces a deep learning method for automatically recognizing and evaluating tissue areas that correspond to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) in whole slide images (WSI) of breast cancer (BCa). Learn-from-data techniques which utilize computational simulations of the learning process are called deep learning approaches. It has been demonstrated that these methodologies outperform conventional methods in resolving the challenging issues in a number of domains, particularly object and speech recognition. The main reason why making an invasive breast cancer evaluation is an exhausting and laborious process is that, it necessitates a pathologist to scan a huge number of benign regions with the aim to determine the spots that are malignant. Effectively characterizing IDC in WSI is a prerequisite for evaluating the severity of tumors and predicting patient prognosis. In order to support diagnosis, the DL approach in this study draws out many convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for perceptible semantic examination of tumor locations. A WSI database of 162 patients with IDC diagnoses is exploited to assess the technique, and 170 slides were chosen for training. The objective of the experimental analysis was to assess the accuracy of the classifier in identifying IDC tissue areas in WSI. A fusion of optimization techniques namely Best First and Evolutionary Search has been employed for feature reduction and improvement. When using DenseNet169, our approach produced the highest quantitative outcomes for the computerized identification of IDC sections in WSI with regard to accuracy 87.46% in comparison with an approach using EfficientNetB0 and ML classifiers for invasive tumor categorization employing Random Forest, BayesNet, SVM, Naïve Bayes and Decision Tree with accuracy of 80.65%. © 2024 IEEE.

The constructivist method of teaching has been shown to have a major influence on the learning outcomes of students. In order to improve classroom instruction, it is essential to evaluate students' levels of involvement and attentiveness while they are being taught. Electroencephalography (EEG) can now be used to assess students' attentiveness in real time thanks to recent neuro-engineering breakthroughs and mobile brainwave sensors' availability. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of EEG-based techniques with the intention of predicting constructivism and engagement among students of varying levels. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of these approaches and to determine the extent to which they have the potential to enhance the design of future learning systems. This survey analyzes whether or not approaches based on EEG may be used to determine the level of constructivism and involvement displayed by pupils. The findings provide helpful insights that can be used to develop tailored teaching strategies and improve education's overall efficiency. However, some obstacles need to be overcome in order for EEG-based predictions to be accurate. Some of these obstacles include data quality and variability, individual differences, interpretability, generalization, and ethical considerations.

A range filter is a data structure to answer range membership queries. Range queries are common in modern applications, and range filters have gained rising attention for improving the performance of range queries by ruling out empty range queries. However, state-of-the-art range filters, such as SuRF and Rosetta, suffer either high false positive rate or low throughput. In this paper, we propose a novel range filter, called REncoder. It organizes all prefixes of keys into a segment tree, and locally encodes the segment tree into a Bloom filter to accelerate queries. REncoder supports diverse workloads by adaptively choosing how many levels of the segment tree to store. We theoretically prove that the error of REncoder is bounded and derive the asymptotic space complexity under the bounded error. We conduct extensive experiments on both synthetic datasets and real datasets. The experimental results show that REncoder outperforms all state-of-the-art range filters. © 2023 IEEE.

The hip joint, a vital weight-bearing joint in the human body, is susceptible to various hip-related diseases. The accurate identification of anatomical landmarks in the hip joint is essential for both disease diagnosis and surgical planning. However, these landmarks are often inconspicuous in X-ray images, where irrelevant background interference increases detection difficulty. In this study, we proposed an IIESC-Net model that combined local and global features, enabling a hierarchical understanding of the implicit structural characteristics of the hip joint. Additionally, drawing from domain expertise based on the explicit physiological structure of the hip joint, we designed a Hip Morphology-Aware loss function to constrain large landmark errors through the application of high-confidence landmarks with robust distinctive identification, thereby achieving accuracy in automatic detection. Furthermore, we constructed a dataset comprising of 843 pelvic X-ray images. The experimental results demonstrated a substantial enhancement in hip joint landmark detection accuracy attributed to the proposed IIESC-Net. This innovation established state-of-the-art performance, notably excelling in attaining heightened successful detection rates under stringent error tolerance. This achievement has profound practical implications for clinical applications. © 2023 IEEE.
